I wouldn't have been as annoyed if they would at least two or three non heavy hitters. I mean, they only seem to release 1 game per week, while Sega and Hudson are dropping two or three games per week. And its not like Nintendo can't do it. If they were able to have over 30 heavy hitters for the Wii launch in Japan, why can't they release two or three games a week?

To give them the benefit of the doubt, maybe Nintendo will truly start VC support at the beginning of 2007. But until then, I am disappointed with the VC.

There are way too many SNES classics to list.... here's the ones I have listed: Actraiser, Breath Of Fire 1 & 2, Chrono Trigger, EarthBound, E.V.O.: Search for Eden, FF4 & FF6, F-Zero, Illusion of Gaia, Killer Instinct, Legend of Zelda: A Link to the Past, Lufia 1 & 2, NHL '94, Paladin's Quest, Pilotwings, Secret of Mana, Star Fox, Super Mario All-Stars, Super Metroid, all 3 Super Star Wars games, Uniracers.

Yeah I was hoping for all the SNES games, because there is definitely more raw games for SNES then Genesis, that I never played because I didn't have an SNES.

wait a second, so Dungeon Explorer, which was alsoa Sega CD game, came out also? Does that confirm they wont be making Sega CD games? Cuz if they were they wouldn't be putitng out the inferior versions or would they?

Its a nintendo game. Its good, and its a super scope game. For its time it was damn awesome, if they could get it to work with the wii mote, I'd go crazy.

EDIT: forget the "for its time" statement its still damn awesome. And sunset riders is ok, if you don't like actions games you can skip on that one, its not very well polished, but for those who do enjoy action fests its solid.

They've already released the NES version of Warrio's Woods, which was also released on the SNES.

I don't think complaining about the virtual console is necessary anymore. Most of us wish more games were available because we all want to play our favorite classic games, and most of us with the prices were less so we can either buy more games or save money, but that just isn't happening RIGHT NOW. But it will happen soon. Prices will eventually drop for the VC and more games will eventually available.

Until then be happy with what you got. There is plenty to keep you busy:

Collect all 120 Stars in Super Mario 64,
Beat F-Zero and send countless hours learning to shave time off your laps.
Run through both Quests of Zelda
Weep trying to actually beat Gunstar Heroes
Run really fast in Sonic and finally realize the game isn't as good as we remember
Play some old school Sport NES games and thank the gaming gods that we have evolved
Admit that Solomon's Key is cool but Wario's Woods is the better Virtual Console puzzle game...and Columns makes three games to play.
Play some Bomberman '93 and see how even today Hudson knows how to do deathmatch games...and the single player is good too.
Try to figure out what drugs the designers of Bonk were on when they created the game and level design.

I think you get my point. There is PLENTY to do for several weeks with the virtual console, and each week more options are being added.

Considering that I've been a NintendoFanBoy4Life, I never owned a Genesis. Today was my first exposure to Ristar and Gunstar Heroes. I very, very much like both. Gunstar Heroes is as good as advertised. Ristar almost seems Kirby-esque with Sonic presentation. The reaching mechanic of Ristar plays a little similar to Kirby's sucking mechanic. Ha ha, reaching, sucking... Anyways, thought I'd throw my two cents in.

Man I nabbed Gunstar Heros(which I use to have on my Genny) and Alien Crush(had it on my TG16) and am loving it. Gunstar looks great in 480p and Alien Crush is my favorite Video Pinball game.

Well I am starting to disagree with all the VC love now, and it was my main feature I wanted in Wii. I was playing Live arcade at my friends house and they have a MUCH better selection of arcade games to choose from.

I know that Nintendo and Sega games hold more weight and are more special to people, but I couldnt help feel disapointed they are getting so many more games that us.

We DL Doom and UMK3 and there was so much more to get but we didnt wanna waste too much space cuz the HD is alread bogged down with movies and junk.

Anyways After playing Doom and UMK3 I started thinking of the appeal of VC. And now I am really hoping Nintendo DOES try and add actualy arcade support for the arcade games, because the conosle counterparts suck especially for Mortal Kombat games (regardless what system they play on)

So I hope they DONT release MK games for VC, or SF or ANY of the great arcae classics, I hope they find a way to gfet the REAL arcade ports. If Xbox can do it why can't Nintendo? They are buddies with Namco anyways so Namco could put some of thier hits on it right?

I was thinking how crappy the NES Pac-Man games were and hoping they get the real arcade versions.

I was ok witht he NES games and SNES games till I rememebred how much MK sucks on all home consoles and Midway refueses to release MK 1 for Arcade Treasures (bastards!) so VC is our only hope.

Other than that I like the lineoup so far and hope they stick with JUST console games nd giv eup on Arcade ports.

Guys, if you enjoy the VC games, fine.

But that doesn't mean that I am NOT disappointed with how Nintendo is handling the VC. Sega and Hudson have been throwing the most support each week, with games that people actually want, while Nintendo only releases one and its a very worthless one.

Do I need to remind you that Japan got over 30 VC games, including some classic killer APPs from Nintendo, at launch? Not to mention they also had a wide selection of Wii launch titles.

I agree that Nintendo may be focusing on brand new Wii games rather that put their time, effort and money on old games, but if they only release one game per week, it wouldn't kill them to release a worthy one.

I HOPE Nintendo gets their act together soon. If they were able to have 30 VC games at the Japanese launch, it wouldn't kill them to have two good ones each week.

Do you ever cease with the complaints? Plus most of them are completely baseless. For instance: How long has the Live arcade been around? How long has the VC been available? Once you answer those questions, perhaps we won't feel the need to change your diaper on a daily basis.

Ok, Xbox arcade for the 360 has been around for what? Over a year...and if it is the same service that was available for the Xbox then alot longer, and you are comparing it the Virtual Console that is not fair. I know that it is pretty cool to get online support for the Xbox 360...but the Virtual Console isn't about that...It is about giving you classic games in their original form and letting you relive your favorite game.

The system hasn't even been out for a full month and you are complaining and comparing it a service that has been around much longer. I don't think that is really fair.

People on the internet like to complain, because complaining is easy...we all want more believe we deserve more and I just get tired of it.

The Wii had a very nice successful launch. There is quite a few games out for the system launch, and a nice variety. The number of units available while hard to find were much better than PS3 launch or the Xbox 360 launch. The Virtual Console is actually working and functioning and providing additional variety in the launch lineup. Filling holes like Super Mario 64 available for a Mario game.

Yes, there are things Nintendo can do better, and I hope they DO better in. I could list quite a few of those...but I won't because I am happy with what Nintendo has accomplished so far with the virtual console, with the system launch, with the system as a whole. And I know that over time the system will get better and everything will be ironed out to perfection.

My only complaint about the virtual console is that it could use more variable pricing for games. I have a feeling SNES games are so expensive because Nintendo wants to entice companies to release rarities like Chrono Trigger on there.

The game selection is small, but time will fix that.

The difference between Live Arcade is that it takes actual work to get games running on it, whereas getting VC games up takes throwing an old ROM up on a server.

Not quite, since the games do require some reprogramming to, at the very least, have the controls mapped to Nintendo's variety of VC compatible controllers.

And rework saving the game to the Wii instead of a backup battery. And code the game to work with the whole suspend a game option which is amazingly cool and makes some NES and SNES games actually playable, enjoyable and beatable when you don't have a save feature.

Later we may actually get a fix so that you can play these games online, but even without that you are getting the games you have loved in the past in a better format. Super Mario 64 even looks better in the higher resolution display and I think it plays better with the Wii Classic controller.

I really wonder who thought of that. It's incredibly inefficient. Having universal button mapping would have made way more sense. Software can determine what button I push on my Wii controller, determine that that's 'A' and then just tell the unaltered game rom that 'A' was pushed. Button mapping would provide more options to the consumer and would make releasing VC games much easier.

Though I figure they don't edit the ROM code. They likely just make the very same "translator" software I'm talking about, only they customize it for each game. It probably doesn't take long to code but doing it for every game seems like a waste of time. A universal controller mapper for each console supported on the VC would save tons of time.

Spak-Spang: I am pretty sure the suspend feature does not require any modification of the games themselves. It is simply saving the RAM of the emulator and then restoring it later.

Ian: By having per-game configurations, the controls will be much better in the end. For example, if there was a rigid one-to-one mapping for every game, we would be stuck with using the second analog stick for C-buttons in the N64 Zelda games (and we all know how much people hate that here). With specialized configurations, those buttons could be mapped to y/x/a and then do some repositioning of other buttons to make things fit. Heck, if they wanted to they could go back in and modify the games so buttons do different things in different situations (e.g., you still use the analog stick to select the Ocarina, but you can use the face buttons to play it).

For the record, I agree with Pap and think those who AREN'T whining about the VC are too used to Nintendo's Dry Desert philosophy that helped keep them in the number two and three spot for ten years.
