So who here is an expert Wii typist already?
« on: November 22, 2006, 04:44:54 AM »
I noticed how quickly I've been hammering out words and thought it was odd. You'd think the software keyboard would give more trouble than this...

What does everyone else think of it? Also, did you make sure to turn the word guesser on by hitting the arrow in the upper right hand corner?

It's much easier to use than I thought it would be, so I can easily see text chat being a viable option in online games...

I find it's not too bad. Not as good as a keyboard but better than a cellphone.

You use the pointer to type, right?

Has anyone made mistakes while writing on the Wii because the pointer accidentally hit another letter?

Frankly, I see this being a problem with the typing on Wii.

especially when there is a usb port on the system, that a keyboard can easily plug into...too bad. Typing messages on xbox 360 is a breeze

Definitely easier than a cellphone, but I still find myself brain cramping on where the letters are since I'm used to an A-Z layout on video games instead of a keyboard (I have no speed problems on an actual keyboard).
Oops pow suprise!

Better than using a gamepad.  That's for sure.

It may be better than using a gamepad, but I can type several times faster on a keyboard.  Nintendo should release a sleek wireless keyboard and a firmware update so they communicate over bluetooth.  No need for the USB ports.

I figured Nintendo might actually use something else for the on-screen keyboard, like dvorak, or a custom new layout designed specifically for pointer typing. I mean, qwerty was designed so the mechanical type heads on old ass typewriters didn't get jammed. We've long since out lived the need for that. A special layout combined with predictive text typing could yeild good results i'd think....

But since all the previews showed a qwerty keyboard, not to mention that Nintendo said zip about a having any kind of special key layout on the keyboard, and it is the keyboard layout that like 100% of the world uses, i'm not surprised.

A "Kii Board" would be awesome!  (However, a "Wii Kii Board" looks like "Wiki" and sounds like a Wikipedia forum or something.)

Still, it does work better than one would expect, but I also occasionally hit the letter next to the one I intend.  I'm getting better, though.

I can type l2p, pst, and n00b pretty quick on the wiiboard, so it would work fine for online games
