Yo-kai Watch 3 takes back the top slot as No Man's Sky, The King of Fighters XIV, Sengoku Otome, the latest Sengoku Basara, and Hatsune Miku Project Diva X debut. Oh, and Federation Force was released last week. It did not chart.

Not really surprising considering Metroid isn't popular in Japan and this game doesn't even star Samus, so it's not like the hardcore Nintendo fans over their who jerk off to her porn have any reason to pick this up either. The only thing that might have made Japanese audience interested is the chibi artystyle but even that had a very generic western look to it instead of a real anime chibi look. Not only that but it's a chibi look that usually appeals to kids, but the game itself is a FPS which is more popular with older audiences.

The game literally had no appeal to the Japanese market. Yeah it probably won't do too well in the West but at least there's enough of a Metroid fanbase and kids in the West being more open to FPS that could keep it from being a complete bomb over here.

I'm guessing Sony announced their 9/7 press event too early as the PS4 seems to be in very short supply. My guess is there will be one more week like that and then it'll just to above 50k in sales the next week with the Slim being released.

I think that's the closest the XB1 has been to the PS4 since it launched in Japan.

Next week should be similar or down for PS4, then the Slim and (bigger deal) Persona 5 will blow the doors off.

Some really crappy console sale numbers for PS4 this week, which still has yet to overall outsell Wii U in Japan. Has that console reached its saturation point there too (like Wii U)? I wonder.

It'll likely sell closer to 100k next week. I don't think it'll pass Wii U right away but within a month to 6 weeks I think it'll finally be done.

While I'm not at all surprised that the PS4 eventually out-sold the Wii U in Japan, I am surprised that it took this long. The Wii U is (supposedly) less than a year away from getting replaced. It only had a year head start but managed to hold on to the lead until it essentially stopped being supported. I expected it to do a lot worse and figured the PS4 would beat it years ago.

Actually it had a bit more than a year head start as the PS4 released in Japan in February 2014 and November 2013 in the US and Europe.

I actually suspected it would take a while. Japan is mobile/handheld country now with a heavier focus on the former. I hope the NX, whatever it is (haha), somehow helps.
