Yeah it is doomed like the Wii was doomed when PS3 was outselling it.

That is 41% of its initial shipment on the the 1st day of sales & it sold 155k in that 1st day. I would say that is pretty good.
& if you look at traditional Wii sales, most BIG sellers are slow burners, as in they don't blow their wad on the 1st week, but they sell consistently for a long time.

Expect maybe 360-380k on the upcoming charts and for it to be on the charts Top 10 for quite a while too.
I would guess 1.1mill in sales before it hits US shores.

However, I don't see it selling anywhere near 360K on its first week as that would be close to 100%. If 155K is 41%, then that means they shipped 380K copies and I don't see the game being a virtual sellout (although I could see it getting around 300K).

Lack of games, especially a lack of games that really pushed the motion controls. The future doesn't look much better with Nintendo apparently making some Gamecube 1.5 games instead of proper Wii games.

I did the numbers up above. Nintendo shipped about 380K copies, so selling 350K of those is pretty great (I would guess that most of the remaining 30K are in rural areas where not a lot of people buy games).

It was lack of games, but I don't really fault Nintendo much for that.  They may be the most efficient and talented developers ever, but they aren't gods, capable of bending physics to their whim.  Japanese third parties are mostly to blame for that, because they formed an anti-Wii cartel and either blacklisted the console from serious development or started half-brained, half-assed spinoff development.

Which is why the news of Japanese third parties mostly struggling in console profits not very surprising considering the climate they've made.  So it was all on Nintendo to cover every base, and again, they aren't supermen.  Things are looking slightly better, but they still haven't stopped the "spinoff first, maybe probably possibly support market leading console later after several userbase stress tests" development strategy.  And people wonder why Nintendo pulls down billions while the others suck fumes.

Wii - 21k

Makes sense--Wii Sports Resort isn't going to appeal to anyone who doesn't already have a Wii.

I don't know about that.

I pose a real example. My Dad was really interested in WiiSports. Especially bowling. He played it for a good while but grew increasingly frustrated with how it wouldn't register his spins properly. I explained that it doesn't fully register everything like a real bowling ball and it took a lot of interest out of it for him.

The possibility of M+ giving true 1:1 could bring people like my Dad back into wanting to play. Now my family does have a 'family Wii' (read: my little sister's) but imagine how many curious people tried WiiSports at a friends house or elsewhere and ended up being disappointed about how the controls were not 'true'. They may have just said that Wii was alright but not for them.

Now people like that may be willing to give it another go with the promise actually being fullfilled. Though it will probably be a slow builder that spreads by word of mouth and people playing at other people's houses. That is hinged on how well Resort spreads through the grapevine.

Time will tell, but I am optimistic.

Wii Sports Resort should appeal to people who don't know a Wii in Japan, since Wii Sports is not bundled in over there.
