Generic USB/Ethernet Adaptor with Wii?

Has anyone tested out a generic USB to Ethernet (RJ-45) adaptor with their Wii?

Nintendo are saying January for the US release of the official adaptor and god knows when for the UK, also at around a third of the price of the official one I think this would be ideal for those of us who don't want to go WiFi.
