Things Wii can't do...
« on: November 18, 2006, 06:53:51 PM »
I've got all kinds of crap-tons of hardware to try stuff out, so hit me up with some ideas.

It can:
Use the ActionReplay/FreeLoader.
Use the homemade GBmicro connectivity cable
Use GCN controller extention cables
Use the Hori Digital Controller for Virtual Console titles.

It cannot:
Use a GameCube Keyboard for the on-screen keyboard.
Play Japanese GameCube Games (without FreeLoader).
Read discs when you put them in upside down.
Use GameCube video cables.
Play GameCube games in LAN\Online mode.

It somewhat can:
Use Datel's Advance Game Port. (see down below)

I think lotsa of people were hoping for the Freeloader, although the individual Freeloader *may* still work, but since neither the AR/FL or the AGP work, I doubt the invidual one will.

The others were just things I wanted to try...

(well, to be honest, I didn't want to try that last one, it just kinda happened...

Boourns on the Freeloader. One more reason to keep my GC then (other being the Gas Boy Player).

Well I can still hold out hope that the standalone Freeloader will work. The Wii must support multi disc swapping so the FL might work. (please)

*edit* nevermind... I read the whole thread.

Okay, when I tried this last night, apparently I was using my 1st gen AR hardware.  The Wii kept locking up at the screen telling me to insert my AR hardware.  I tried it again just now, using what I *knew* was my newer AR hardware and it works.  And I just tried it again with my older AR hardware and it's working now....

Wha?

So, so long as I have an up to date freeloader, I can safely trade in my GC?

Do FreeLoader discs ever mess with the console over a period of time?

I'm guessing its a temporary fix for region encoding, so it doesnt do any lasting 'damage' to the console.

i dont want to risk using a FL disc on my shiny new Wii ^_____^

I'm so impressed with the things it CAN do that I can't care what it can't do...

Wow... I never put the GameBoy Player disc into my GameCube without the GBP attached before.  It makes a very angry sound.

I knew it wouldn't work, but I also wanted to try a GCN game in LAN mode.

Well, it didn't work (surprise).  But here's a neat picture...

1) TiVo
2) DS
3) GameCube
4) PC
4) Wii

Three different Nintendo systems, kinda sorta hooked together - whoo!

Heeeeeey.  I don't have a console, but I have a controller.  The same thing happens when I press 1 and 2 at the same time as when I press the synch button.  DO THEY DO THE SAME THING?  MAYBE!

I win!

No, Opera will be availible later. I do not think that a release date has been announced. It does have a little description in the Wii Shop Channel, however.
Thanks for listening.

Well, I read somewhere (I think it was an article here about PlayAsia getting their Japanese Wii in stock)... anywhoo, I read that if you use the Freeloader (or Action Replay/Freeloader) to load the disc that comes with the Advance Game Port, you can use it!  Well, you can - I've tested this myself (as if I were more trustworthy source than Play Asia)...

I've just tried my AR (the one that includes the Freeloader 1.06b) and it works perfectly on my Wii.
I read somewhere that some system update disabled the use of AR on the Wii, is it true?

I thought it didn't matter what region gamecube games were from, and the Wii would play all regions?
