I have to agree with everyone here.  The site lost it's charm.  I'm sorry but when I saw the page I thought I ran into one of those domains that was one off from something popular.  It's to much like a stripped blog.  I dig how you guys channeltised the top featured stories that almost never change though.  It's also nice to see that we no longer bitch.  Though that to is part of the lost charm.  In trying to become more professional I think you guys pushed it to the point of being bland and soulless.  Though I do really like the how the left navigation bar is done.  The current layout could grow on me and it's a good start but it's a bad destination.  I think it just needs those little fanciful embelishments to make it fun again.

I do have to say the new Screens view is nice though I wish there was a way to just press a button and go to the next one.

Criticisms:

- I find the menu bar kind of melts into all the other text on the page.
- The watermark on images seems bigger than ever -  an unfortunate trend across all media these days.
- Feels very empty.  The excitement I used to feel when I opened the site is gone, to be honest.  (this is my smallest complaint, though)

Kudos (argh so cute):

- The new image viewer is nifty
- the main headlines are nicely split up
That's my opinion, not yours.

Am I the only one that doesn't like the new image viewer?  When there's a new batch of images, I tend to go to the images page, view the first one, then click Next through them all.  With the new viewer, I have to click to close it, then click another thumbnail.  Yeah, it's just one extra click per image, but that's still 200% more clicking than before.  If you can add next/previous buttons to the new viewer, then it'd be great.

My only other criticism is the lack of visual separation between elements.  The sidebar, the header, individual updates, they're all visually the same.  There's nothing distinguishing between them.  Even something as simple as a horizontal rule between updates, or like these forums, a different shaded background from one to the next.  The design is nice and clean, but perhaps it's TOO clean.

EDIT:  My laptop screen has a noticeable decrease in contract when viewed head-on.  I viewed it at an angle and realized there's a bit more visual separation on individual game pages, it's just too subtle to see unless viewing my screen at an angle.  It still feels a bit lacking to me on the main page, though.

Also, the image viewer doesn't work if the thumbnails are still loading.  It'll just link directly to that image instead of loading it within the same page.  Might want to find a way to code it to load the image viewer before the thumbnail images.

I agree the new image viewer needs a next button, but it's better otherwise.

Did you guys add the gradients last night?  They are a good step in the right direction.  Is there anyway to make the individual news items look less ran together.  I was sort of thought having them look like there own mini channels be cool.  Maybe instead of doing the gradiance like the menu from top to bottom apply one that was slight and from bottom to up.  Just something to defind them as individual items visually.

Also I casting my lot with having a next button on the Picture Viewer.

I'd also like to recommend adding a break between groups of headings so you know what day it was posted on (like the way PGC was & gamesarefun.com is).  It makes it much easier to tell what's new since the last time you visited the site.  The featured articles could just have a Featured Articles heading, again, must like the way gamesarefun.com is setup.

The picture viewer is really nice, but I don't like how it no longer shows when the pictures were added.  I was checking out the new Wii Chanels screens that Pale posted and I can't tell which are the new one and which are the old ones.

There's an error on the About page:

We have been also been featured in major publications....

Also, I just noticed that the Talkback link on the Elite Beat Agents review didn't show up until after I posted a comment in that thread.

I was coming to comment about needing a "next/Previous" button on the image viewer, but I see it's already listed. But ya, add me to that list.

I like the right side of the main page where it says what department it's for i.e. ds, Wii, GBA, etc.

I also like the "x hour(s) ago", nice touch.

Yes the White is nice, but it does kinda make it look like a bogus site, maybe add a touch of color

As if "Wii" was already difficult to use in everday speak, "NintendoWorldReport" is vomitus mouthful, and "EN DOUBLE YOU ARR" is jarring to say and read.

I'm also disappointed you had to use Nintendo's name in the site name.  It does make the site sound self-explanatory, but in principle, it's not yours.  Ran out of clever "N" abbreviations?

I still suggest "UR-N-World".  It's not too late to change.

THANKS FOR THE DISASTER

I'm done.

I'm glad to see I'm not the only one who thought I had been dumped into one of those generic, domain not found, sites. I also agree with the other stuff that has been said about the main page needing some separation and the image viewer needing a next.

Definitely has potential. Definitely needs work.

I agree with those talking about a hopeful next button for the images, and a better way to seperate "news entries" and other things. Presently, it just looks to all run together far too much, so I have just been going to the talkback thread of late.

However, I would also like to state that I know hearing critiscm about this stuff is pretty hard; I recently redesigned the front of my own site, which recieved a lot of similar criticism from my viewers, and it was hard to hear due to the work I put into its look, but I did get some good feedback about what might be improved on.

interesting thing I found, is that if not all the images have loaded in the image viewer, and you click to open one, instead of the flash animation and such, the image gets open in the same window, as if it were just a link (since the images don't seem to be embedded I don't know if this could be considered an issue or not )

and add me to the "Prev/Next Button" list ^^

Yeah, I'm having the same frame misplacement as mentioned on the first page. The whole list of articles and stuff is way down at the bottom. Using FireFox.

Please try updating FireFox.  I know the site has problems with older FireFox browsers (1.0.*), but if you're using that it's time for an update.  Try upgrading to 1.5.* or 2.

Try Firefox 2.0.  Adblock and Flashblock work just fine even though they don't claim to be compatible.

To whoever is responsible for such things:  Thank you for the previous and next buttons on the image viewer.

Unless I'm missing something I just found a big problem with the picture viewer--there's no way to send links (or post them in forums) to pictures.

One of my casual gamer friends asked me about the problem he's heard about with people's wrist straps breaking.  He wasn't sure exactly how the strap worked so I wanted to link him to a picture of one.  Instead, I had to link him here and tell him to click on the picture on the far left, fourth from the top.

You could consider it a minor inconvenience, but it seems like a big oversight.
