I wanted to gauge the opinion of the forum.

How much would you spend on a PS3 at launch? If the system was priced at $199, would you be there? I think most would say yes. $299? $399?

Likewise, if the Wii had the graphic prowess of the 360/PS3, how much would you be willing to spend on it?

The maximum I would pay for a PS3 is the price of a premium 360 or 399.99

If the PS3 models were priced competitively with the 360's models, I'd be more inclined. And so would probably most people that were PS2 buyers.

Ditto with the Wii on the pricing.

None of the launch games for the PS3 make it worth buying one now for me. Unless the price were expected to go up later, I still wouldn't buy one. Understand that I have a backlog of games to play already, so it would take something special to get me to buy a new system at all. The Wii has that special something.

My absolute peak for paying for a console I really really want would probably be $400. That's more than I've ever let myself pay for a PC video card. Without the new controls to go with it, I probably wouldn't want a Wii at that price even if it did have better graphics. I think I'd be willing to pay $300 at retail for the Wii as it exists. I'd never buy a console off a scalper, though, so that will remain hypothetical.

Well for me personally I wouldn't buy this machine even if it was only $300 just because I'm not that impressed with next-gen graphics. At $200-$250 if there was no such thing as Wii, I'd definitely consider it.

My peak for a console I really want would probably $500 CDN - which is the price of the better Xbox 360. But I don't really want 360 or PS3. Would I pay $500 for Wii? No, as that would clearly be gouging on Nintendo's part and the launch lineup isn't worth it, but I'd be more likely to consider it than the other two consoles. If Wii had the power of 360 PLUS everything else it brings to the table, then yeah, I'd pay $500 CDN.

I don't think I would buy it even if the PS3 was $50. the only game at launch that looks interesting to me is Untold Legends.

I'm with Bear: $400 is the highest I'd EVER pay for a console I wanted.

But in this case, what is there on the system worth playing, let alone spending $600 for?

The reason I'm so interested in the Wii is because standard controllers for standard games literally aren't entertaining me anymore. These days, a game will have a 5-10 hour novelty period with me and then I'll grow intensely bored with it.

The Wii is pretty much my last hope for remaining interested in gaming. If it fails, it's basically over for me.

As great as Okami supposedly is, 4 hours in, I'm already getting bored. Obviously I'm not Sony's target audience anymore.

A lot of the cost is for the Blu-Ray player. I don't care about that. I don't have the TV for it anyway and I don't want to adapt to a new video format (ie: buy everything again) anytime soon. Personally I think DVD is good enough for me (I can hear my future grandkids laughing now). With VHS I always noticed how annoying it was to have to rewind and how the more you watched a tape the worse the picture quality became. DVD fixes the problems I had with VHS just like how CDs fixed the problems I had with tapes and records and I an content with those formats. Hell PCs have reached a point where I'm content with things as is. I've had my PC for a few years now and aside from more storage space I have not even once had a situation come up where I feel the need to upgrade.

So let's assume we could somehow remove the Blu-Ray drive entirely and the PS3 would still work. Let's also assume that I am really interested in one of the launch games. Whatever that would cost is what I would be willing to pay for it. The PS3 price right now is just too expensive for me regardless of my interest level.

I can't spend more than $300.00 on a new game system. Because I am a poor man.

However, I think PS3 should be priced in the similar range of Xbox 360...or slightly more.

I think we would all agree that if the PS3 models were $350 for the cheap version and $450.00 for the expensive version that it would be a bargain for what you got.

Though I really think Sony should have made one single unit with everything they were trying to accomplish for $400.00.

It's worth exactly what I can sell it for on eBay.

For personal use, though? If Sony is predicting a ten-year life cycle - still - then it's not worth anything to me yet. It's going to be two or three years before we see any games that use the PS3's power to really make new game experiences. (Read: non-'scripted' AI)

...and quarenteed backward compatibility with my dance pads, DDR, and all Monster Rancher games. (My PS2 conked out before I got to play a few games.)

The Ps3 is apparently worth almost a semester of college at a 4-year school.

You spend it all at once, get your 9 weeks of education/torture. Games? Oh good heavens, no. PS3 is meant as a means of financial support, not silly gameplaying.

Well as someone who DOES care about graphics I am interested in PS3 cuz I figure it will eventually get some games worth playing. Ps2 only had like five I woudl consider so if Ps3 gets that many then no I will pass cuz I never had a ps2, my sis did but I didnt play it much. As far as I am concerned if Star Wars goes Blu ray sony wins me over, if not then I wait and see cuz I gotta have every versions of Star Wars there is.

I wont pay more than 100 for a Ps3 and I wont get one till I can get it used so I garuntee Sony doesnt get any of my money from the purchase. I love sony and all but hate PS so its a pardox for me.

Well I was with you on Blueray for movies UNTIL today. Seen a Samsung unit connected to a full 1080p screen, @#$%ing impressive, you could see all the pores in the skin so much detail. The Blueray player was $1200 AUD, which is not expensive for a first gen player (I paid $900 AUD for my first el-cheapo chinese clone DVD player), but the screen was expensive @ $6000 AUD.
In 12 months (maybe less) expect these price to halve, which will make the setup afordable. I havent seen a HiDefDVD format player, so cant compare.

When the time comes I can actually afford it, i'll be an HD-DVD man myself (I'm never going to encourage Sony's trying to be the primary format in a media like they tried with Betamax, SD, etc). So the system would be worth as much as it should have been if they hadn't put the drive in: $250. Minus $25 fo taking out the rumble, so $225.

I wouldn't buy it at launch for any price. only 4 games that do not interest me makes up for the worst launch ever imo. Even after the "good" games came out for it, I'd still only buy it if there was a drought in Wii games (and even then it's only if it were $300 or less).

I have seen HD DVD players around here for like $400 but I havent seen any Bluray players and of course no PS3's.
