Ah wow, that podcast took me back quite a bit. It seems that the site editors and I went through some of the very same experiences. I remember reading IGN very heavily skewing for news on Nintendo's next system. I remember reading some article about the n64.com reunion at(I think) Nintendo Next. I followed IGN's affiliate page and found several of my favorite pages from back then (opn2000, planetn2000, dolphincove, nintendorks, nintendojo, tendobox, etc). I remember being an early fan of planetn2000 and opn2000. I read the news pretty daily and liked the format. I applied to be the gfx designer way back when, but when my mom saw me giving Billy my personal info she freaked out. I started my own website called NextGenWar, but we really had trouble getting it off the ground. I suppose it was a little too late, because all the great talent went to the other sites.

Anyways, I'v been on these forums so long, currently I don't have the highest post copunt, but i bet if you combined my post counts from all previous forum incarnations I would!!!

Actually edit:: I LOVE the new name and its a name that you guys can keep on to forever. That is actually what I wanted for you guys for a long time.  If you keep on changing your name its going to be hard for you guys to get remembered by people.  I just am hoping for a Wii/Dslite ish makeover to the page . . .

It is a very professional name and I like that. I think that the people that work for this site are some off the hardest working true professionals in gaming journalism and now they have a name to match that professional attitude.

I found this site in much the same way the staff said they did and I have loved it ever since.  I worked for another site that is now no longer around, and the entire time I worked there all I ever wanted to do was try to be as good as the people that work for this site and I think I did for the most part.

This site is the best gaming site on the net, it breaks big news first a lot, but the real sign of being the best is the fact that it reports every bit of news from Zelda to telling everybody that the new Mary Kate & Ashley Olsen game just shipped.  Even if nobody says "wow I am so gonna go get that game" at least we know that you guys are so hard working and professional you are gonna report that anyway just to make sure you have all the Nintendo news out there.

You could change your name to "Wii Wii's Playhouse" and I would still come back, cause this site (to steal a Bret Hart line) is "The Best there is, the Best there was, and the best there ever will be" period.

It is not a bad name.  It works very well.  However, I think it sounds too NEWSY.

Obviously, they don't want us to say the name in the blog...so I will give you the initials.

NWR

And just for a bonus, N stands for Nintendo.

Personally, although it sounds professional it has no whimsical fun nature to it at all.

We're planning to make the site more newsy (not at the expense of other coverage).  Also, the name might seem a bit dry, but you'll get used to it.  It's no worse than Planet GameCube or Imagine Games Network.  And you can always call us NWR.

Note that we made no further attempts (as far as I'm aware) to stiffle posts, as the concept of doing so was indeed silly.

Classic.  ShyGuy gets a frookie.

I understand why TYP would feel the need to edit my post.  It was just a one word post with the new name and a link to the future site.

It's obvious PGC is excited about the new site and honestly, I can't blame them.  I'm really looking forward to it.

If I pissed off anyone, I would like to apologize.  It was not my intent to steal your thunder.

Also (out of pure curiosity) if I ever did get banned would I still be able to visit the site and read the forums (and just not login and contribute) or would I be completely blacklisted and not able to even view the site/forums?  Because that would suck.
Why must all things be so bright? Why can things not appear only in hues of brown! I am so serious about this! Dull colors are the future! The next generation! I will never accept a world with such bright colors! It is far too childish! I will rage against your cheery palette with my last breath!

It wasn't TYP that edited it, Vudu.  It was me.  However, my internet is down at home, so I haven't been able to respond until now.  TYP and I were trying hard to figure out what to do to keep it from getting out too early, because we'd like to sort of reward the listeners.

Anyway, by now it's out and about.  We will be Nintendo World Report.

And no, Vudu, we weren't thinking about banning you at all.  We just got frustrated for a sec, then, as TYP said, we realized that no two men alone can stop the internet.

Sounds very professional, mayhaps the pgc crew got frustrated with being the "amature fansite" and now want to be taken more seriously.  I don't mind the name change that much, but it's gonna be really strange not going to PGC anymore...

:tear:

Also the acronym NWR is nowhere near as cool as PGC >=U

I actually kinda like the new name. When I tell people about Planet Game Cube around here they laugh cuz they name is silly to them cuz noone likes GC around here, everyone ehre is still convinced PS3 will come out on Top and Wii will fail worse than GC.

But the new name does sound pretty cool.

Getting back to the theme of the podcast, I dont rememeber when or how I fisrt stumbled on PGC, all I know is I started out reading the mailbag and news sections for along time and it wasnt till gamefaqs kicked me off that I joined the forums here.

All I do remember was I was drawn to Ian Sane's comments and wanted to defend him cuz I agreed with him a lot of the time.  I know that I had a hard time getting on too, it took like months before they got my password and username to work.

Anyways I still love the site and I can't wait to see the new one you guys rock and stay cool.

The name's definitely different.  Hell, it sounds more serious and professional than most other gaming sites out there. But there's always the fun house...

To think Bloodworth had such humble beginnings, I would never have guessed.

To NWR, and I pour a 40oz for PGC.

I love the name, and it fits, the community is very international compared to other sites, and the news reflect that, this is probably the only site which I've seen reporting on price of the wii on Brazil or launch info of Australia. I can't wait for the new site.

[one day old reactions]

The name isn't FUN.

PGC had a natural rhythm to it with each syllable rhyming, NWR doesn't and sounds more like NWO. Sounds like a wrestling game...

And it's a Nintendo site, face it, it won't ever be prestigious in the eyes of people who don't like Nintendo. Besides, prestige is won not by your site name, but your reporting and relevance.

I get the whole "world" angle, but I just can't grow to like this name. It sounds sterile, too long, and sorta soulless and like no real stand was being made with the name. It sounds like a surrender, not a declaration.

Kairon, I understand where you're coming from. PGC's been very similar throughout the years, both in name and in design philosophy. Now we've got a new name and a new face and you're thinking, "Woah woah woah, this isn't the girl I married." I get that, and again, I understand. But trust me when I say that there was a lot of thought put into this, and that we're all confident it's going to be for the best.

Much like the Wii name, perhaps it just needs time to marinate.
