OH NOZ!
« on: November 12, 2006, 07:10:37 PM »
I forgot to post this awhile back when i played wario ware at nintendo world store.

i hope this is just for some games.

say for instance in wario ware you are supposed to hold the controler at your waist and jump.

you can hold the controller anywhere and just click it like you were jumping.

do any games actually sense motion and move in a 3 dimensional space, the same that the controller is in as well?

does this make any sense?

Well there are going to be some games where you can "cheat the system". However in games like Wario Ware and Wii Sports, there really isn't much benefit. Plus, when you are playing multiplayer your friends aren't going to tolerate it. In your example, Nintendo probably went programmed it to sense motion instead of space because people will jump at different heights.
Thanks for listening.

The controller can't be sure of where you're holding it.

The game shows you how to hold it because all it can do is take it on faith that you are doing so.

It's supposed to be a party game and, ideally, the other people in the room will chastise you for half-assing it.

Anyone remember the NES Power Pad?

Do you think I actually ran in World Class Track Meet's dashes and hurdles?  No, it was more like rapid stomping.

Do you think I actually jumped in the long jumps?  No, I jumped off the pad...and before my onscreen character wiped out, I jumped back onto the pad.

Yes, you could cheat the system - and it doesn't have to be with a fancy controller.  How often have I set things on auto-turbo or taped a button down and left the game on overnight?  Etc.

Heh, like the 20 hours in SSBM to unlock Mewtwo by leaving the game running all night, then finishing it in the morning?

No, I don't think I ever cheated in SSB:M, but I suppose that is a good example.

In Pokémon Red/Blue, me and my brother have had, on more than one occasion, played it on a Super NES (using the Super Game Boy instead), with an ASCiiPad (that was an awesome controller).  If you have about 200 Coins or so (for the Game Corner), you can play a slot machine, flick the ASCiiPad to Auto-Turbo A, then leave it on overnight.  Since the game is actually rigged, but in your favour, you'll find that if you play the slots long enough, then you're guaranteed wins that offset your losses (the 200 Coins to start is kind of a buffer zone).  Every morning that I woke up to this, I had 9999 Coins, and if I didn't, I'd be in the 9900s, and just have to wait a few rounds before it'd max out again.  Porygons were so easy to get this way.

Sounds like Nintendo is sending out a weird message about gambling.  "Go on, keep playing, eventually you'll win more than you spent!  Therefore...keep going!"  o_0

My brother's left Ogre Battle on overnight to get more money...

I've set Lost Kingdoms II overnight to build up EXP of cards...by throwing down two cards of those tree guys who create a healing space...they constantly heal each other, so they never disappear until I say so.  I throw down an attacker (like one of those guys that circles me) who can't die because of the healing, and making this mess of cards next to a cave where baby dragon enemies keep respawning, I've come back the next morning with powered-up cards with no effort on my part.

I'm sure I have more examples.

Now, back to the topic of the Wii...now that they're based on physical actions, you could probably "cheat", (like you said, not actually hula-hooping but making a similar enough motion) but overnight monotony like building experience or money might no longer be an option...unless I happen to have something in the house that can repeat a physical motion all night long without being seriously weighed down by the Wii Remote...

If I like Wii Sports, I doubt it'll be because I can play it like a bum sitting on the couch.

I cleaned up my living room last Friday so that it can handle four people swinging their arms for Wii Sports without any trouble.  Or at least lessen the chance as much as I could of someone getting a Wii Remote in the head/face/gut during Wii Sports Tennis or other crazy multiplayer games.

Therat, that comic is actually what I thought about too.

One thing though, you really should link to the whole site rather than just the image.  Only linking to the image deprives penny arcade of hits, and doesnt give due credit to the owners of the website.
