Wii Excitement !!!
« on: November 11, 2006, 07:22:40 PM »
With a little over a week left to go, my excitement level is off the charts.  I'm reminded of the same feelings I had when I was a young lad, clutching onto the SNES console when it launched.  I have never been this excited about a system launch as I am with the Wii.  The Nintendo Hype Machine is working, having Zelda as a launch title is amazing.  THE GOLDEN AGE IS ABOUT TO BEGIN !!!

It still hasn't hit me yet.  It seems far off, like I'm no closer to owning one now than I was nearly a year ago.  I'm waiting for it to suddenly hit me, that I'll be playing it in just over a week.  Crazy.

I have an "anticipation suppression response" which I developed after spending about a year discussing, hoping for and dreaming about SSBM.

But yeah, it's going to be hard to contain my excitement.

I've been running through Majoras Mask, aiming to collect everything possible to pass the time; it's amazing what a difference it makes when you draw your own dungeon maps and keep track of which items and heart pieces you've gotten and where. With TP's bigger scope, I think I'll have to do the same to keep my mind from warping. Also, my wii funds have been increasing rapidly lately, making me ever more excited as to what I can afford on the DAWN of the FIRST DAY

It's gotten to the point where I can't focus as much on other productive things. The fact that this is the first worldwide launch ever magnifies my excitement.

I'm so excited I've pretty much stopped living.  I just sit around playing Smash Bros Melee in my apartment all day.  On Saturday I'll be entering a Smash Bros tournament where the winner will be given a free Wii right at midnight when the first systems are released.  Looks like my years of playing Smash Bros might finally pay off.

Of course I'm looking forward more to the Team Tournament that will be taking place on Friday night.  Me and one of my old friends from high school will be in it and since both of us are really good players and have always been at the same skill level we should be nearly unstoppable.

I will actually own this console in 7 days!! The excitement is so over powering that I almost don't like the feeling. Camping out for 4 hours in advanced is what I plan... I just hope it's enough. I just want for the moment to come where I actually have purchased the Wii, and then I can finally relax lol. Like others here, my life has completely stoped and all that matters is the Wii. I think of the Wii more than I do my girlfriend...(that sounds so wrong >< but it's true. This thing needs to be released before something bad happens to me lol.

The excitement hasn't hit me like a wall yet. That will happen within a few days of the launch.

I decided to pick up Wind Waker again to pass some time. I haven't played it since it launched in 2003. Even though I beat it then, it feels like a practically new game because I don't remember many details about dungeons. Whenever I try to replay Ocarina of Time, I never follow through with it.
Thanks for listening.

I'm so glad to hear that other people feel like this and its not just me. The excitement is killing me and like most of you, I can't seem to focus on anything else which is bad considering all my mid-terms. If you're looking for some kind of suppresant, try an MMO of some sort ( WoW works for me ).

6 days, 10 hours, 59 minutes, and 57 seconds....sigh

The excitement doesn't start until I have Zelda in my hands.

Don't expect any posts from me once I get my Wii. And school, don't expect any HW.

If you think about it properly, on the 19th there will be nobody posting on the PGC forums...well at least not as planetgamecube, and even then alot of us will be busy playing Zelda, except europeans, south americans and down-unders.

Am I excited? BOOYAH, of course. I've got on the 14th an early chance to play the Wii, I'm not going to play Zelda at that event because I really want to experience it with no rush, uhhhhh what else, I have to rearrange some shelves on my TV stand just for the Wii, controllers and games, I gotta do some cleaning in my room...

What's killing me is all the damn impressions.. I love reading them, but they just make me want to play that much more. We've waited two and a half years, though.. unfortunately, the next week will feel every second as long as the previous 30 months.

I've got lots of school stuff going on next week, so hopefully it'll go by fast.  Couple essays due, a couple outlines due, a few class tests, and three days of pointless state testing ;___;  And I really mean pointless, this is a 'test' test, meaning that if it goes well, there will be more REAL tests.

But as Mario said, at least it's not the week AFTER release...

The latest Zelda impressions did it for me. I was always for the new remote, but I was just worried... not any more!

The Launch Party in Los Angeles is supposed to have over 400 Wii's available. And I am bringing a nice crew of people who weren't able to pre-order. They know only a fraction of the stuff we do, but man are they excited! Constantly messaging or calling me with Wii questions or asking for updates.

Lately i've been spending so much time researching the entire industry, even more so than I actualy play games. That is so going to change from the 19th and until I beat Zelda. I usualy take my time with games, but Zelda seems so vast, and I have so little time now'a days, all my free time will go to it.

Man I can't wait! And for the first time in a long time we are on the "popular" side.

I'm getting more and more antsy, reading all these impressions.  That's what gets my hyped, too.
I'll start really getting excited when I actually have it in my hands, though.  I'll get it, and maybe play some WiiSports with my family.  I'm not going to play Zelda until I'm sure that I'll be able to sit for a few hours and just immerse myself in it.
Zelda I'll play over Thanksgiving break, and maybe some during the last three weeks I have at school, but most of it will probably be played during Christmas break.  I'm just hoping that people will still be willing to talk about it for hours on end with me after I beat it (which will probably be later than some), because god knows I'm going to have a lot to say about it

Not sure where to post this(didn't want to start another thread), but its from a non-gamer at Time magazine

www.Time.com

Quote

Wii Sports, a collection of cartoonish tennis, baseball, bowling, golf and boxing scenarios, comes with the system. I had presumed that it was merely an elaborate demonstration of the Wii Remote, which responds to natural motions rather than arcane button combinations. I discovered quickly that it might be the greatest videogame ever made.

That is a bold claim to make, and coming from a non-gaming magazine like Time. Now I can't wait to sit all my nongaming friends down in fromt of a Wii and make them play sports.... drunk!

Quote

By the end of the weekend, the little machine had hooked ten people of very different temperaments and interests. Only one among us, Chris, was a bonafide gaming guy, and his years of button mashing didn't give him an unnatural advantage over anyone else. Excited as I was about my own attraction to the Wii, I was stunned by its universal appeal.

Really, I can't wait to see how many people, including those at work, I can get to go out a buy a Wii for the family for Christmas. I've slowly been converting people at work and around home to buy DS' since I purchased my own and soon it will be the Wii's turn.

Speaking of converting people listen to what I did to one household.

I bough a ds PHAT for my best friend a year ago because I knew hed like it if he had one but wouldnt put the money out there because he wasn't too sure.  A year later I bought my Dslite and he got one because he loved mine.  His older brother a nurse, seemed to like Trauma Center and bought one.  Now his parents want both a Ds Lite for Christmas.  My best friend is also now warming up to the idea of getting a Wii and his brother said hed buy him one for Christmas if he buys Trauma Center for Wii.  Thats

4 Ds lites
1 Wii

In one household.

I should also mention that my friend was a diehard Nintendo fan but killed off back mid gamecube drought.  So kudos to Nintendo for pulling back in the fans they lost.

Clearly, Time is delusional. Pittboi has spoken to non-gamers, and they tell him Nintendo is doomed and the Wii remote feels like a penis.
