Radio Free Nintendo - Episode 24
« on: November 06, 2006, 07:02:47 PM »
Don't ask Steven to start talking about Zelda, cause he won't stop. This Podcast is spoiler-free.

srsly

Like for real, let's talk about Zelda. I'm so into that mang, cause I'm tired of talking bad about it. Confession time: I've been wanting to like Zelda since it disappointed me at E3. For realz, I'm more excited than anyone at PGC about Zelda and they think I hate it. Such is my pain.

You can also listen to the podcast on Odeo.

PLEASE NOTE THAT THERE ARE NO ZELDA SPOILERS IN THIS PODCAST, SO ALL OF YOU CRYBABIES ARE CLEARED TO LISTEN.

Old director Jonathan Metts (boo) and new director Steven Rodriguez (yay) join Karl and me to talk about PGC staff changes and Zelda. We also take a moment to whine about the US Virtual Console lineup, while still giving Nintendo credit for even having a Virtual Console.

Like, let's get this straight. I know we're considered a "fansite" by a lot of people. But Zelda looks so zomg amazing that anyone who thinks otherwise is seriously not a gamer. Why hate on something that looks so good? I'm not afraid to make such a harsh generalization, but since I work for Planet GameCube, I guess I'm allowed.

Okay, I'm done. We've got a new e-mail address but it's a secret. So send us e-mails as soon as you figure out what it is.

I demand that you immediately inform us of whether or not this podcast contains Twilight Princess spoilers. If you do not tell us or tell us that the podcast DOES contain said spoilers, you will be bereft of my weekly praise and ignorant slobber, for I will not listen.

Okay, three things.

You do not price a product by what is "fair" You price it by what consumers will pay. Genesis (Mega Drive) was not as popular in Japan, so perhaps they calculated that they will need to sell the Sega games at a lesser price in Japan to get the best volume for a return on their investment. (See a supply and demand graph)

Secondly, maybe one the the reasons for less N64 games, is the fact there are less N64 games. If you released 5 games a week for the NES and 5 games a week for the 64, you would run out of N64 games years before you ran out NES games.

Lastly, in regards to the camera issue, why can't a developer make another button, say the 1 button, a toggle for adjusting the camera? Click on the button and move the wiimote around.

WTF, I can't download either m4a or mp3 file, not even the save to window pops up. Is PGC having problems, because lately I've been experiencing quite a lag on loading the main page.

Edit: Now I have to go to work, ARRRGHH! Not even with GetRight I could get the download to start.

So is nine dungeons only confirmed? its a fine number for me, but Aonuma said "many more" than Ocarina, and that doesn't look like many more. I also want to ask, compared to Ocarina, Majora's Mask and wind waker, how are the dungeons in TP? are they the same length, or are they more complex than before?

OMG you said zelda had 9 dongens! SPOLER.

Anyway, I think the reason Nintnedo is giving japan all these extra things like more virtual console games and being the first ones to use the online service is because America is getting the Wii and Zelda before they do.

Imagin this all you halo fans, how would you feel if microsoft brought Halo 3 to Europe 2 weeks before it comes to america?  Bunji is an american company so you'd be mad that it's coming out in a country different from the one it was made in.  Wll probably Japan feels the same way about twilight princess and Wii so to counter that Nintendo says: Hey look, sorry about that but we'll give you stuff that American's won't get, like more virtual console games and you all will be able to play on online Wii game before they do.

It's sort of to cool the flame that has probably lit itself in Japan.

I'd visit a site called "Nintentosterone.com", how 'bout you guys?

Yeah, the VC lineup is likely weak because they're testing the water.

As for Zelda, good to hear it induces such a strong level of emotion. All the talk of the Wiimote and how it would be used seemed to supersede any discussion about how good the actual CONTENT of the game is or isn't.

Evan, I know you got a lot of grief over it, but I really liked your opening monologue; although, Karl's joke about practicing it in front of a mirror was pretty good, too.
Why must all things be so bright? Why can things not appear only in hues of brown! I am so serious about this! Dull colors are the future! The next generation! I will never accept a world with such bright colors! It is far too childish! I will rage against your cheery palette with my last breath!

Any possibility the new site's name will be "Free Nintendo" and the podcast name is simply an allusion to that? Kind've a lame name, but the advantage is that it would pop up with the shopping ads whenever you searched for Nintendo. Site traffic plus ELEVEN.
