The latest Japanese hardware charts covering the week ending March 2nd were released today by Media Create. For the week ending March 2nd once again saw Game Boy Advance SP leading the pack with 57,800 units. PlayStation 2 managed to rake in 57,200 units, Game Boy Advance had 22,200 units, GameCube 6,600 and the Xbox managed to take in 1,400 units.

Game Boy Advance SP: 57,800 (Annual: 255,100)
PlayStation 2: 57,200 (Annual: 705,400)
Game Boy Advance: 22,200 (Annual: 685,300)
GameCube: 6,600 (Annual: 175,200)
PSOne: 1,500 (Annual: 25,700)
Xbox: 1,400 (Annual: 41,700)
Wonder Swan Crystal: 750 (Annual: 13,200)
Game Boy Color: 470 (Annual: 7,900)
Wonder Swan Color: 340 (Annual: 8,600)

You'd think everyone in Japan would already have a PS2 at the rate that those things are selling. Everytime a console starts to sell better, PS2 sales go up too...wtf?

Well, Sony has released some rather awesome new coloured PS2's in Japan. I'm sure there's some desire to buy another unit because it's a different colour. *Shrugs shoulders*

Plus the Japanese never get things fixed, they replace them. Added with the fact that the PlayStation 2 is one of the shoddiest built machines around..

You know i never belived that, but not only is it true, but when theres a new tv or electronic out, they throw out the WORKING older unit. A friend of mine serving in the marines in Japan told me this. His friends in the marines actually get working tvs and stuff by just checking the Trash!

Yeah, I have always wondered how much of Sony's "userbase" is actually non-unique. It's a pretty well known fact that there aren't many people who have only used a single PSX machine. Most people I know have had to replace their PSX at LEAST once. The PS2 isn't much better. I am willing to bet that at least 25% of Sony's userbase simply does not exist.

At any rate, it's important for a company to spin numbers to its benefit, and Sony has certainly done that. Still, it's amazing that of the top three in Japan, two are GameBoys. That's just wicked.

here is my prediction bye the year end the dreamcast will have higher sales than the xbox and sony will be bought out by nintendo because it rules the consol market notice how i didnt say gamecube owns i said nintendo owns because gba gbasp and gc that is like 86600 a week for nintendo and only 58700 for sony and 1400 a week for m$

. It takes a 13 year old to realize how immature some of you guys are. How bout nobody says any sh!t about any system ever again...OK? I mean some of you guys are like 15-23 years old and you are arguing like little kids (and I really think some of you shouldn't even be playing video games anymore since you are so old, you should get a life). I don't care what any of your opinions are about the Xbox, Gamecube, and Ps2. So please quit the arguing about which system is better...it is getting EXTREMELY old. I can't stress this enough. And some people like Sean shouldn't go out calling people silly little morons. Some of you give gamers a very bad name (although I feel it is a disgrace to be called a gamer.. or at least at our school it is).

You say some are too old to be playing video games. What makes you say that?
Some people have always played games and always will. If you see it as a disgrace, good for you. Alot of people see it being on level with watching movies or playing sports.

Ironically, onion your age group are seen as nothing but ignorant, immature little kids. And for your information I do not spend endless hours in front of the TV or computer playing games. I am currently attending classes at my community college and also happen to be looking for a part-time job. I log in most of my hours of gaming during the weekend or at night sometimes. Since when has that ever been a crime?
Furthermore, I do not need some self-righteous little kid like yourself telling me what activities I am too old for. I pity you if you truly think that once your 16, 18 or 21 you suddenly "mature" and are supposed to cease all activites deemed to be childish. What's wrong with hating the Xbox? This is a place where we are supposed to be able to express our opinions freely, so long as it isn't fanboy flaming. You could disagree with his statement and back that up with a little info, that would be an intelligent converstion. I hate big mouth punks, just like M$. Hyping up the xbox prelaunch by downing Sony and Nintendo was borderline ridiculous. Nobody really hates X-box, but the constant barrage of digs against the other 2 platforms got old real quick,for me anyway. It doesn't blind me to the fact xbox has a few positives going for it, but i have a bad taste in my mouth with regards to their launch hype.

I know no one has said that this info is wrong but someone is bound to say it is so i thought i would just say that...I find this very disterbing that people are makeing fun of the xbox loseing to ps1 i mean the ps1 is a really good system it has ff1 like that game is 1000000 years old. if xbox made a squal to doaxbv every week then they would be a contender in japan.
