Sanyo 30" WideScreen Built In HDTV

OMG!! That's the best deal I have ever seen on any TV that size not to mention Bulit-in HD.

It's probably also about 18 inches deep (flat screen doesn't mean its a flat panel). You can get a similarly priced TV at Wal-Mart.

I wish I had $3500 to spend on a tv.
Though it does remind me of how I spent $2500 on my first computer...

Before I got my current tv, I always bought Sanyo from Walmart. My first tv was a Sanyo from Wally World and it lasted a good 10 years plus a number of moves from one apartment to another. I currently have a 20" flat screen Sanyo in my bedroom that has awesome black levels. (I hate watching a widescreen movie and the 'black bars' are a different shade of black than whats in the movie.)

When I bought my widescreen EDTV, I don't believe Sanyo was doing hi-def stuff, and Wally World was definately not up to speed on the subject (they still aren't, IMHO). I have a Toshiba 42" rear projection monster. Manual says it does 480p, but strangely enough my 360 is able to output 1080i on it. 720p does nothing but a black screen. I'd like to hear if anyone has a theory on that (maybe its cause 480 and 1080 are in the same ratio??).

At any rate, I think my tv fits the bill wonderfully for the Wii.

You can get some good TVs for 1000-1500$ that are 30-40inches, just make sure you research stuff like color saturation and how it handles "blacks". On a side note I Hear the 1080p are almost worthless if the screen is less than 45 (Unless you are sitting reall close), so that makes a 30-42 inch model even more "affordable". With that said that TV looks to be a good deal, but I really would check on the things I mentioned, and whether or not it supports 720p which some don't!

I know I shouldn't, but I'm starting to adore widescreen to a point where it seems necessary.

Damn! This thing only does 1080i yuck. If it did 720p then I would have brought it on friday. Still it will do 480p and it's widescreen so it's still great for the Wii iThink.

Damn u all. I am still a college student and the word "income" is no longer in my dictionary. I'll be using the same TV I've been using for my GCN. It's only a 20" Philips Flatscreen TV with Component out, S-video, and Composite. Some reason this thread makes me want to buy a Hummer to Compensate for my dinky Tv....

I'm forced to buy a new TV very soon, maybe even this weekend. My old one doesn't play NTSC stuff anymore. Know what I'm gonna replace it with? Hopefully the same bloody thing, 51cm, stereo sound, one AV input will do. You know what I think about your fancy televisions? HUH? HUH? It's a secret.

Nile at least you caught it, my HD-TV said in the specs in did 720p but really doesn't. So not only do I have a standard screen aka not widescreen, but it only does 1080i and has no HDMI cables either (which I will need for when I buy the HD-DVD upgrade for my 360). Then again I bought my TV about a year ago so alot has changed (It cost about 400$) and I think I will be able to upgrade soon to a 32-40 inch TV with tons of features when those PS3 fanboys start paying me tons of money for my systems

I can promise you this bears no truth. My monitor does 1080p and it is only 24" and playing the 360 at 1080i, you can still see jaggies and some bluriness. Remember, 1080p is nearly double the resolution of 1080i which is an enormous bump. On any TV that can do both you will almost certainly be able to see the difference. Perhaps for movies and such there won't be as noticable a difference, but for games I guarantee there will be a huge difference.

I think this thread successfully demonstrates why HDTV has a long way to go. When it takes this much research - black levels, saturation, progressive scan, multiple resolutions, special cables - it's hardly worth it. We're nerds, imagine what an average person just getting a glimpse of all this thinks.

I actually own the 30" Sanyo Vizon CRT HDTV as pictured in that Value City ad. I bought it at Wal-Mart earlier this year for under $500. It's a nice set, but I will actually be taking advantage of the 1 year warranty and upgrade to the 32" Sanyo LCD at some point over the next few weeks.

Understanding HD took me a few articles and a bit of research. I'm guessing the average consumer just buys the big one that costs alot. I wouldn't bother investing a significant amount of money into any HDTV that can't do 1080p. The differences between 1080i and p are enormous. I would suggest anyone looking into buying an HDTV to do some research on the resolutions so that they understand what they are buying. There are a bunch of articles out there that generally explain the differences between interlaced and progressive scan and why there are resolution differences and why 1080p is far superior to 1080i.

It's because your tv is an older CRT based rear projection tv. No CRTs out there do 720p natively (more recent models take the signal and converts it to 1080i) but yours must be one of the older models that don't accept 720p at all.

Never seen an HDTV that didn't accept 480p. And every tv that is pixel based (everything except CRTs) has a set amount of pixels and it converts every signal to that amount; and they all are progressice displays.

I had the previous version of that monitor, which is very similar.

It makes games without progressive scan unplayable, it blurs very badly when with action, and has a lag between between control input and display. I mainly bought Nintendo published games though, and all of those are progressive scan.

The monitor has some lag with even the best inputs, though. It wasn't noticeable with Gamecube games, but I noticed it with mouse controlled computer FPS.

I used a wired mouse, since wireless adds its own lag. I worry that the combination of the pointing capabilities of the Wiimote, the Wiimote being wireless, and the monitor's lag, may cause problems.

I prefer the 20" Dell model, but it doesn't have component inputs.

I think I'll get the biggest, heaviest HDTV CRT I can find.... They are much more difficult to steal than my 24" flatpanel was.

Jensen, the difference between this model and the older models is enormous. The quality has been seriously upgraded. One of my good friends has the older model and we had played a bunch of 360 games on his, then when I got mine you could tell how much better it performed. I haven't experienced any of the lag seen in older models, but the non progressive input looks atrocious. I won't even play my Cube on it because I don 't have the component cables. I really hope I can get the Wii component cables at launch or else I'll be playing the Wii in my bedroom.

As I said, its ironic Nintendo puts always huge widescreen TVs in their publicity material when they themselves said that HD penetration was low and thats why they didn't go that route

.

The TV Ill use with the console is my computer monitor, I hope theres a VGA output or Ill have to settle with my TV import card.

I don't think the Xbox 360 HD DVD player will have HDMI. A lot (not sure what the percentage is) of TVs that can do 1080i can also do 1080p, even through component input, and even though it's not a "supported" resolution, because nothing used that resolution when HDTV was starting to get big.
