McDonalds: The Monopoly Game
« on: October 15, 2006, 08:20:54 AM »
Every year MCDonalds has a monopoly game and this year  is no different. But has anyone ever heard of anyone winning a major prize or the big cash prize from this game?

Is it possible that everyyear McDonalds never actually prints out winning tickets, but instead gives the excuse that someone must have trown them away? or are they really printing them out and someone really is just throwing them away?

Well anyway, I was really wondering if they make the same game pieces rare all over the country or do they switch it up? I figured using the internet to help play the game might improve all our chances winning regardless of which scenario it is, so I'm gonna post the pieces that I need in hopes that maybe one of you might have one of them and we can split a prize.

Pieces I need:
Boardwalk
Short Line Railroad
Pennsylvania Ave.
Ventor Ave.
Illinois Ave.
Kentucky Ave.
Tennessee Ave.
Virginia Ave.
Vermont Ave.
Mediterranean Ave.

The only one on your list I have is Illinois Ave., so that leaves Kentucky still to complete the reds. All the ones you are missing are the ones I'm missing too. I guess certain pieces just don't get printed too often (or ever).

Back in '98, I was in the navy(great lakes, IL). I heard about somebody wining a Corvette from the Monopoly game on base. My dorm was right across the street from a McDonlds so all we ate was that stuff.

It's fraud to have a contest that is fixed that no one can win the prizes, all or any.  McDonald's has to print up every piece, but the total numbers of them is different.  If no one collects all the right pieces then that's fine.  But for them to just not print up all the required pieces is fraud.

What I find wrong is that in the past you could find pieces everywhere, in newspaper and on just about anything you got from McDonald's, but know you have to buy the more expensive sandwiches, and it's been years since I was able to find free pieces in the Sunday paper.

I don't know about in the States but here in Canada McDonalds only just started doing the Monopoly game again a few years ago after a couple years of doing similar contests.  The rumour was that the game in Canada had in fact been fixed by the manufacturers of the pieces.  They made winning pieces, they just gave them to people they knew so they themselves could win.  After the big backlash of this and legal action being taken Monopoly distanced itself from Canadian McDonalds for a few years until things cooled over.  Sounds like urban legend stuff to me but we did not have the game for quite a few years.

Anyway Short Line and Boardwalk have been the holy grail pieces as long as I've played the game.  I as usual have just been getting the same crappy pieces again and again.  Yesterday both my fries and drink had the exact same pieces.  I also never win free food anymore and if anyone I know wins they get something crappy like a cone or a coffee or a muffin.  Years ago I used to win fairly frequently and it was always good stuff like hamburgers and, you know, the stuff people actually order.

In Canada you automatically get $2 Future Shop (now Best Buy) dollars with a large fries, I think. Or a sandwich or something.. I remember buying the fries for $2, then using the $2 coupon to buy a drink or a candy bar at Future Shop (they actually had those, and there was no minimum purchase required either)..

I'm sure there's a list somewhere of the "rare" pieces.  Find one of those and you've essentially won.

McDonald's prints up enough pieces.  The simple fact is that not everyone plays the game.  Its genius really.   Create a contest that will bring many people to your store to buy your food.  However, probably 50% or more of your customer will not play the game fully, or will not dedicate enough time to collect the pieces or to check all of them.

So most of the prices become unclaimed, and you can have bigger and better prices each year.  All the prices that you are going to give away because you have sponsorships from businesses you include in instant win prices...or the new Best Buy Dollars...which won't be used very much either.

Don't forget that you can play the online game with all your pieces on www.PlayAtMcD.com. just enter 10 codes a day to move around the board and have a second chance at winning some prizes. Chances are you won't win there either, but its worth a shot.

He has Park Place.  Everyone has Park Place.  I haven't been to McDonalds in over five years and I have Park Place.  (not really)

You're aware of how the game works, right?  They print up a million Park Places and two Boardwalks

Go to the drive-thru. Ask for a game piece or two. Don't order any food.

YES.  Occasionally they'll be dicks about it, but usually they'll honor the "no purchase necessary" policy, as they're legally required to do.

In the rest of the world, Monopoly is based off London.
