Wiiconnect24 idea/question...
« on: October 11, 2006, 11:09:39 AM »
I was just talking to a friend about this...

Can Wiiconnect24 allow developers to expand and update their games when they need to or is there the demand for it? In order words, instead of releasing an expansion pack sold separately you can just download the data off the servers and update your game.

I got the idea/question fron Kingdom Hearts 2 Final Mix.

The problem with this is that Square is always updating their big titles with new modes, content, story and such. Not only do they only release it in Japan they charge full price for what is essentially the same game but with some new content. I want to see the new stuff, but I don't feel like paying 40 or 50 bucks for a game I already played.

My idea is this. Let's say that Square releases a Kingdom Hearts game for the Wii and they feel that they could've added more to the game. With Wiiconnect24 they can upload a new boss battle or cutscene once a month without gamers feeling gipped and they will have the opportunity to play an updated and fresh game when they boot up the Wii.

I think developers also save money by doing this. True, they still have to program the events and such, but it would be cheaper to just release the data for a price instead of manufacturing it.

So can this be done?

I seriously hope that Nintendo utilizes WiiConnect24 in holiday season. I don't care what they do -- even if it is something that they should have already addressed (nunchuck control for Wii Tennis; option to change the # of sets per match) == just to show us that they care

edit: Miller High Life is great. full body and rich flavor.

I'll shut up now...

Judging by the amount of space available on Wii's internal hard drive, I'm betting that no, we won't see major expansions. New RPG boss added every month could work, and is a good plan, provided it stays free, but Xbox Live expansions work for two reasons: space to store the new stuff on the hard drive, and money to finance the creation of new material.
