I was just talking to a friend about this...
Can Wiiconnect24 allow developers to expand and update their games when they need to or is there the demand for it? In order words, instead of releasing an expansion pack sold separately you can just download the data off the servers and update your game.
I got the idea/question fron Kingdom Hearts 2 Final Mix.
The problem with this is that Square is always updating their big titles with new modes, content, story and such. Not only do they only release it in Japan they charge full price for what is essentially the same game but with some new content. I want to see the new stuff, but I don't feel like paying 40 or 50 bucks for a game I already played.
My idea is this. Let's say that Square releases a Kingdom Hearts game for the Wii and they feel that they could've added more to the game. With Wiiconnect24 they can upload a new boss battle or cutscene once a month without gamers feeling gipped and they will have the opportunity to play an updated and fresh game when they boot up the Wii.
I think developers also save money by doing this. True, they still have to program the events and such, but it would be cheaper to just release the data for a price instead of manufacturing it.
So can this be done?
