I find this hard to believe, gathering from the interviews I've read. And I have no reason to believe you,  before you at least provide a link.

They must be in a hurry to get another Zelda out if they have been working on another one already. I find that rather hard to believe.  But at any rate, I prefer the Cel shaded look to the realistic one, there is just something about it. I donno, I was just always a fan of it.

You are confused, THE SCENE shown with the SpaceWorld Zelda Demo will be the basis of the next Zelda, not that they are going to take that demo and make it into the next Zelda.

Damn it. I wish these stupid sites would quit posting this crap. If they actually bothered to read the DICE interview more than once and at a glance they would see that Aonuma not Miyamoto did not say anything about what the next Zelda game would be. He simply said that a realistic Zelda game would be a definite possibility but it depended on whether the next game would use adult Link or not. By the way where are you people getting this "darker" crap from? Aonuma never used the word darker in that interview. This is just fanboyish bull sh!t.

Read this people:

Quote

Everyone loves Wind Waker. But a lot of people preferred the more realistic-style of the Zelda of Space World 2000. Do you have any plans to explore that style?

AONUMA: The first thing I'd like to say is that I think that once people actually play The Wind Waker and get into the game, they immediately understand why we chose the graphical style that we did to go with this game. So even if people are fans of the more graphical looking Zelda games, I think if they'll just give this game a chance, pick it up and play it, I think they'll immediately, once again be engulfed in the Zelda world, really understand, and kind of accept the game for what it is.

As for whether or not we'll actually go and create a more realistic looking Zelda game, it's really a question of what kind of game the next one will be. Obviously, the graphical style or methods of expression that we choose for that game are going to be highly dependent on what type of game it is. We haven't come up with the idea yet for the game. But once we do, we'll then have to take a look at what the best method of expression is going to be for that game and so we'll go through that process. So definitely there's a possibility that we will create a more realistic-style Zelda game.

So obviously we've seen in Soul Calibur and Smash Brothers, a definitely more realistic-looking Link. So hopefully that can tide people over. Also, we have the experiment that we did to create the Space World 2000 video. So we have those models and we have them moving around, working. We don't have a game for them but that system is there and it works and it functions.

And you take a look at The Wind Waker. This is a game where you have child-Link throughout the game. You never see adult-Link in the game. I really can't picture adult-Link in a toon-shaded game. It doesn't really match for me. That's why we say we'll think about what the next Zelda game will be. We may have to re-evaluate which style we use.

Does Aonuma confirm anywhere in that reponse what the next Zelda will look like? NO! He simply gives possibilities.

By the way I take it from this interview that they have not started on the next GC Zelda game so it will not be shown at E3 whether it is cel-shaded or realistic. Besides even if the game was done Nintendo would not be stupid enough to show a brand new Zelda (especially a realistic one) at E3 since it would definitely hurt the Wind Wakers sales. People who don't like the cel-shaded graphics would just decide to wait for the realistic game to come out. Nintendo wouldn't do that.

By the way this is from PGC's transcript so I believe it's okay that I copied and pasted it.

Seriosuly, providing a link would certainly help your case- anyone can come in here and make some wild claim. While I'm not saying you're WRONG, I won't believe it until I hear or see it officially.

I found one site that said something about this.  The only problem was THEY DIDN"T QUOTE.  They also had no sources provided.  Yeah the source from that one comes from their head.

While not many people here complain about the cel-shaded Zelda, I think that "realism" isn't what Zelda is all about. I much prefer games like RE, Metroid, or MGS to have a "realistic look" to them then say Mario or Zelda. The main point is old-school, and characters. When these games were released, the characters were super-deformed to match up with the pixels of those days. That's the reason Mario wears a hat, overalls, and a 'stache. If Mario was changed to fit a "realistic" look, then it wouldn't feel like Mario. The same with Zelda. Link needs to be friendly and fun, not scary and macho tough-guy. If the "realistic look" was to be in a Zelda game, I think they'd have to remove "Young Link" from the picture, like the remove "Adult Link" from Wind Waker. Perhaps the as of yet maybe "realistic" Zelda will be a sort-of follow-up to Wind Waker, changing styles to suit the story and gameplay. Who knows, only Nintendo and time can tell.
DON'T PANIC:
If you suffer from overactivity and are rather hyper, repeatedly press one.
If you are indecisive and need someone else to do stuff for you, get a friend to press two.
If you have schitzophrenia and any other multi-personality diseases, press three, four, five, six, seven, and

BTW, Ganondorf looks constipated or something in the Space World Demo. It seemed very unnatural, kinda like the awkward turning in RE.

Blah blah blah, happymaskman- it's the same rap you get from people who have so deluded themselves that Nintendo made the absolute right decision that they downplay the SW2K demo. Keep in mind that demo was made in less than a week- think of what Nintendo could've done with that if they had fully worked it. I'm not saying that cel-shading is better- I'm just saynig if you ask almost ANYONE, they'll say they would've much preferred the realistic style.

And what's this about realism not being "Zelda"? Miyamoto *himself* has said almost word for word that there is no bone fide "Zelda style"- they rework the series for whatever they think will do good. You could say that ANY style change "isn't Zelda". Side-scrolling was different than a top-down view, so it's not Zelda! A colorful, exaggerated world is different from sidescrolling, it's not Zelda! Back to a top-down view is different from colorful, it's not Zelda! 3D is completely different with half-way realistic looking model,s so it must not be Zelda! A stylized, Japanese artistic style is different from full 3D, it must not be Zelda! Basically, ANYTHING is Zelda if Nintendo works it right, and believe me, if they go ultra-realistc with the next Zelda, Nintendo will make damn sure that it IS Zelda.

Just to let you know IGN's interview is in fact the DICE interview. Notice how the date on gamerfeeds update is Feb. 28th. That is the same date the DICE thing happened. They just took the quote I posted above and twisted into their own fanboyish wet dream. IGN has been known to do this. Besides don't you think a site like PGC would have reported this. Don't trust small fan (boy) made sites either since the only thing they are good for is starting and feeding bull sh!t rumors like the Megaton announcement. Once and awhile they get something right but that is only by chance most of the time.

But then there are rumors and fanboyish wet dreams that have fact behind them like i told about pokemon on the gamecube and online at the TGS i told gcadvanced and they said i was wrong but look at them now cause i saw a poster and then i saw it at videogames.co.nz and its very true then theres link in soul calibur 2 and that came to and then miyamoto has been commenting on dark zelda and thinking about this because its always got the better of his curiosity and so what if it was made in a week? what if it was made in a year? who cares but in my professional objective opinion this sees like it will have light and planetgamecube are kool they post only OFFICIAL stuff but then unofficial stuff can also be a preview u just have to know which ones look right or not and this looks right to me and no i'm no fanboy with this as a wet dream he looked too girly, it would be kool but this does have some premise behind it.

and in case you didnt know fiction can be or lead to fact look at final fantasy look at rare look at metal gear solid look at startrek for christ sake!

No he hasn't. Again give us some freaking PROOF! I don't mean by giving a link to some fan site who can only back up their statements by saying, "IGN said so" and then rather than giving a direct link to IGN's article it sends you to their main page. An actual quote or the interview that Miyamoto supposedly said this in would be nice.

Also I have never said in any of my posts that there will not be a realistic Zelda. In fact Aonuma said that a future Zelda game with realistic graphics is definitely possible. All I have said is that Miyamoto nor anyone else has confirmed that the next game will be realistic and that it will be shown at this years E3. Again if you are so confident that Miyamoto said this in an interview can you show me the PROOF by giving a link to the interview?

Finally could you please make an attempt to use more periods in your posts. It's very annoying trying to read something without them.

The rumors, and I stress RUMORS, of a darker version of Zelda come from the misinterpretation of what Miyamoto's response was.  Here are the FACTS:

  • No game company, including Nintendo, ever "throws out" an asset.  Once a model is made, it's kept.  As Miyamoto stated, the models used in the FULLY FUNCTIONAL SpaceWorld 2000 demo for Zelda have been kept, as has the engine.
  • Miyamoto stated in the DICE roundtable discussion that they never rule out anything, and that if the story called for it, the next Zelda MAY be more realistic.  Also, any game that used the Adult version of Link would obviously not work very well in a cel-shaded form.  This is one example of how a more realistic version of Zelda would come to fruition.
  • Namco is currently using a very realistic version of a Link model in Soul Calibur 2.

However, at NO TIME has Miyamoto EVER said that the next version WILL be realistic, that a realistic (or darker) version is being made, or that he has any interest in doing so.

With that said, this thread is closed.
