Wii Box Art
« on: October 05, 2006, 08:46:30 PM »
Is it just me, or is the box art so far released for Wii games a lot cooler looking than anything on GameCube?

Wii Box Art

The box art for Zelda is especially nice, and Red Steel and Metal Slug Anthology look pretty spiffy too.  I can't put my finger on it, but the covers of these games don't look nearly as cluttered as they did on GC.

A glooming peace this morning with it brings;
The sun, for sorrow, will not show his head:
Go hence, to have more talk of these sad things;
Some shall be pardon'd, and some punished:
For never was a story of more woe
Than this of Sega and her Mashiro.

I personally hate the Wii banner thingy - didn't want to believe it was true because it is very lopsided.

Is Nintendo mandating hand-drawn boxart? If so, good call!

Cars, Madden and Barnyard certainly aren't hand drawn.

I think Madden 07 is hand drawn. And yes Evan, they are real because I got one directly from Activision.

I am all about this boxart. I love how everything associated with the Wii looks so sharp and awesome. From the packaging, to the box design, to all of the box art. The Wii has Apple written all over it, which rocks because that style sells stuff even if people don't really understand what it does. Every single part of the Wii emits success, lets hope sales are strong and that Nintendo keeps it together for the rest of this generation.

My first thought was 'ugg - so many crappy kid's games.' I guess that's true of any console, though. And I guess it'll be evened out a little bit by good stuff we don't have the boxart for yet, like Trauma Center.

I'm a big fan of the Wii top bar. It's nice to get away from stuff like '(X) - Only on Xbox - Xbox'

Tony Hawk's cover may be the ugliest thing I've ever seen.

Zelda's boxart has gotten even more gorgeous.

I liked Super Monkey Ball's cover until I tried to think about why AiAi is holding a wiimote. Seriously. It makes no sense.

Ahaha, the awesomeness of Zelda, Red Steel, and Excite Truck is counter-balanced by Tony Hawk and Rayman...

I have a terrible obsession with collecting box art. I like the Wii header thingy, and the lack of an ugly "ONLY FOR" slapped on them this time round (why do GBA boxes have this? Of course it's not going to play on Atari Lynx).

IGN's missing some so far though.

I really like the simplicity of the Wii in the corner and the entire boxart pretty much used how the developer wants to use it.

They all look clean and sharp.  I personally really like how the Wii banner is especially compared to that ugly one they use to put on the preview boxes that looked like half a 360 on top of the case with Wii in the middle.  I think the extra space that they put on the left side helps keeps stuff uncluttered.

I don't care about that Monster Truck 4x4 or whatever game (Excite Truck would likely be a way better choice if I cared about any kind of truck) but that "FREE STEERING WHEEL INCLUDED" thing is really quite garish.  Any time they have those "accessory included", "best of E3", "bestseller", "new for this year", etc. labels, those should totally be separate labels that are removeable.  I really don't like unnecessary clutter, especially on top of what could be cool box artwork.  Maybe the developers' logo and ESRB rating should both be in the same corner, not sure if that would help, but it would free up one corner.

At least for the games I do care about, the box art is all mostly pretty good.  Let's hope the good games continue to have decent effort put into their box art.

Hmm the PAL Box art for Rayman is actually superior to the real Box art.

The Zelda boxart looks nice though I'm a little bummed out that it doesn't have the old simple shield style cover.  That style always made Zelda stand out because most boxart is just a picture of the main character.

I think it's really weird that the Tony Hawk game doesn't have a picture of Tony Hawk on it.  It's like the modern equivalent of when John Madden was no longer on the cover of his game.

So are these DVD cases again?

I'm not a huge fan of the Wii emblem there, although not bad; however, I do agree some of the box art is nice, with my particular favorites being: Zelda, Red Steel, Super Monkey Ball and Marvel Ultimate Alliance (love the art on that, especially for Ghost Rider).

"So are these DVD cases again? "

Who knows, although I imagine it's probably a good chance that they will be the regular Amaray cases as it would likely be cheaper to go that route.

I was GOING to say that "They should actually go for the DVD cases that are half as wide, so that they could say that the Wii is as big a six DVD cases!" until I realized that that's not actually a better statement.  >_<

If they're the same as DVD cases, then Nintendo wouldn't need to sell replacements on their web site.  I remember buying one GameCube game case and one DS game case for the Metroid Prime 2: Echoes demo disc and the Metroid Prime Hunters: First Hunt demo card respectively, but now it logically seems like any DVD case will do.

Actually, that is supposed to be Tony Hawk. Just shows how bad the box art really is. =p And seems IGN updated today with a whole heap more.

Indeed, this is true. Lolita was an adult-like child, the Pangya girls are child-like adults...
