I don't know...on one hand, I'm not a big fan of ANYBODY monitoring my daily activities.  This is probably pretty harmless, but there should be an option to either not keep track of things or not have it upload automatically.

On the other hand, I really don't care.  It seems like of a lazy way of getting marketing data.  I would have preferred Nin. to dedicate their time to other things like adding another remote to the package  Maybe they should rename it "Wi" .

Let's not lose sight of this features intended use: letting parents know what games their children are playing, and how many hours they spend doing it.

A glooming peace this morning with it brings;
The sun, for sorrow, will not show his head:
Go hence, to have more talk of these sad things;
Some shall be pardon'd, and some punished:
For never was a story of more woe
Than this of Sega and her Mashiro.

Yeah, it's like the V-chip.  God forbid the parents actually pay attention to what the kids are doing.

I really love this idea as I love stats and the interpretation of said stats. I've spent a ton of time in SSB:M and Perfect Dark's (64) stat menus.

First off, the feature should be completely optional--even the offline logs. Logging should always be an option. As long as the disable feature is password-protected then it can still function as parental monitoring system (which is kind of pointless, in my opinion).

I wonder if the data will be personally-identifiable. What I mean is will Nintendo have the ability to look at the data and say "Hmm...user 16362 really likes to play both Metroid and Final Fantasy"?
Thanks for listening.

Why optional?  You'd go into an options menu to get to in it the first place...It's not like it'll pop up every time you turn the Wii on... =|

I just think that log-keeping should be optional. I have nothing to hide (except frequent games of Hello Kitty: Roller Rescue), but if somebody wants their gameplay logged then it should be their choice.

Edit: I was under the impression that it would contain specific times about every gaming session you have (30 minutes of Zelda starting at 5:40), but I guess this isn't the case.

c'mon we all have done it before.  During Senior year of High School I had CounterStrike running on multiple PC's, teacher was cool with it as long as me and my friends were thru the class work.  I even ditched class right after the 1st period for some N64 action.  Ah high school what a joke.

Unfortunately, I was kidding about my response. The only time I got to play video games during school was when we had a sort of "free day" in 4th grade. I played Super Mario Bros. Delux on my friend's GameBoy Color.

I wonder if it'll be able to monitor GC and VC games?

The Wii ought to be able to have access to the same GC game information that GameCube's operating system (or whatever you call it) had. So, it should be able to tell what GameCube games you play. I think.

Hm.  Here's a question:  What happens if you buy/sell a used Wii?  If the records are unremovable, then you'd be given unwanted records on games played, or be giving your own records to someone else.

It would make more sense if you had to create an on-line account I suppose.

I doubt they would force you to go online for this feature. You probably could just wipe the wii's memory if you're going to be selling it.

Does this mean a single universal friend code? It just might.

Apparently, I'm a liar.  Nintendo itself says there's no way to delete the play history.  I still suspect that maybe that means "no way to delete it without formatting your Wii" or whatever, I'm pretty sure you won't go to sell your Wii and give up a huge chunk of personal info to the buyer.

If it reads some kind of game header of the disc (and I don't see why not, as the GCN games could recognize games in its menu before playing) then they could track that.  It shouldn't be too hard to do the same for VC games...very likely they'd be tracking purchases anyway to see what genres and franchises people want to see again.

Users can exchange game data or screenshots. E-mail messages can also be exchanged between mobile phones and Wii.

Does this mean that you could you just message your friend saying, "Hey, I want your save of Smash Bros. with everything unlocked" and then have him send it over? This could open up some interesting possibilities. On one hand, it might lead to more people just finding game saves instead of playing it themselves. On the other, you could use it to send a game save to your friend so it is there when you visit him/her later that night--no memory card required. Unless you can only send whatever game data the developers allow you to (like specific items in Animal Crossing.

As for the e-mail messages, I wonder how that will be done. Will everyone get a user@wii.com address? Can the Wii function as a general, though limited, e-mail client where you can choose your own servers?
Thanks for listening.

Couldn't you pretty much do that before by just copying from the memory card?  Well except for F-Zero GX of course.

True, but that only includes friends that live nearby. With the Wii being online-enabled, you could swap game saves with anyone across the world (provided you have swapped friends codes). So if I hear that a PGC forum member has a game save that I really want, he/she could send it to me. That has never been possible without 3rd party perhiperals and a computer.

Man, I hated that.  I could see how in certain games why they might prevent cheating by copying of files (Pokémon Box especially) but I didn't understand why some couldn't be moved.  (At least I seem to recall some, and F-Zero GX probably was one of those.  You'd think you'd really want to at least copy it in case you forgot or lost a Memory Card at the arcade after playing some F-Zero AX with it or something.)

If the SD card is for saving games on for the Wii (I imagine it wouldn't be just for the Photo Channel) then you should be able to use a card reader for the PC to back them up, move them, copy them, heck, even hack them, probably.

That is a good point. Having a memory card that is standard across multiple platforms (i.e., SD cards can be used with the Wii and PC) would make hacking saves pretty easy, unless encryption is implemented. If the game doesn't verify that the data is actually possible (300 stars in Mario? Preposterous!), then it could have some interesting results. Is this possible with the PSP?
