What are the two channels that say "coming soon" on wii.com???????

More surprises from Nintendo? Or did I miss something?

Does anyone else realized that the picture channel will let you watch videos.  If you have any video on the SD card it seems to be able to play it.  Since I watch anime this could be very handy for downloaded videos.

Is that confirmed? I was wondering if you would be able to do that - it would be awesome if true..

In one video of the Wii channels I saw the guy played a video and while he was watching it made it turn into a puzzle.  I don't see anything to stop this so far.

I wonder what formats it will support? And, if this is true, can you plug in an external hard drive or a flash drive and play movies from it?

Also the picture channels doodle lets you edit photos, and even grab other photos and stick them onto a layer above a photo and then editing them like that... doesn't Adobe have layers like...patented or something?

Photo Channel   (the movie part is at the end)

This viewing of photos and videos is amazingly fast.  The last time I hooked my camera to a tv to show some photos it was a frustrating experience to say the least.

You cannot use the USB for storage...All storage is done through the SD card port...

Not even flash drive support.

This must be about file formats, and SD cards must have a standardized way of storing photos in 'em that makes it simpler to implement and faster to access.

I seem to have read that it may be possible to have stuff like flash/Hd support down the line, but right now it is SD only. BTW I may be wrong but I don't believe Xbox 360 has any kind of browser to surf the net (at least I haven't been able to find one for mine), that is another thing Wii has that 360 doesn't.

Thing about this is... is Nintendo competing against Apple?

Well, the latest iPods (with iTunes 7) now have downloadable games for $5 a pop. A number are from EA/Pogo. I wouldn't say they're competing with Nintendo in portable gaming. It's just extended functionality, like cell phone games. I think the reverse is true here.

they commented that videos taken with your camera, kodak use quicktimes (.mov), while ther brands use .avi and other formats
so nintendo will have to support atleast those two main formats

I doubt the HD will have a klite style codec pack which allows u to watch 99% of videos, but im sute it will support the commercial codec's used by camera's

im sure someone will make a psp style program which will allow u to change videos to these formats

No, it shouldn't matter since they both can use the same format (FAT and FAT32).  NTFS-formatted drives could be a problem, but that really shouldn't stop the other types from working.

Wow, that video is too cool; check out 0:40 - where it shows all the photos piling up. The interface is amazingly smooth, the control is accurate, and there's just so many features.

DeadlyD: .mov  and .avi are file formats for holding video/audio data, not video formats. The question is really which codecs it supports because any codec could be in .mov or .avi. If it supports mpeg4 (dvix/xvid/etc.) and H.264 (newer codec which iTunes7 uses for videos), then it would be great for watching downloaded TV shows/movies. (Not that I would care much because I will be hooking up my Wii to my computer monitor.) I guess it would be easier than a laptop for bringing movies over to someone's house.

On the USB mass storage (flash/HDD) support... not really sure why they would leave that out. I guess with reading SD cards from cameras you can assume the format is FAT16 or FAT32 and that all the files are in the same folder. The second part was probably more important because it would require adding a folder browsing interface. Most flash drives are already FAT16, although hard drives are probably mostly NTFS or HFS+... and have multiple partitions with Windows and Mac partition table formats.

Lets not through all the *nix formats for drives.  I really doubt we'll be seeing H.264  because it would need to be licensed.  Though I could see mpeg4 because, if memory serves, it does not.  (Remember this is for business not personal use.)
Ironically though if Apple made iTunes for Wii there pretty much be no need for the iTV.
(I also would like to see WMV supported.  I like the format. *ducks*)

But the iTV needs maaad Hard Drive storage space.... aside from that teensy weensy detail they're more or less compatible concepts...

HD?  What HD?  The highest you can get from iTunes is 640x480.  It can't record TV so as I said before what HD?  Thats one of the reasons I couldn't justify buying movies from iTunes.  If I want a DVD with no special features I have cheaper options to get one.  I was hoping they release HD quality versions of the movies for sale. bah...

IGN has a new interface video up.  It's in their Wii section.  Though I wonder if I'm the only one that notice their is a 8 second delay of blackness between clicking to start a channel and starting the channel.
