Do any mutliplayer games need a nunchuck?
« on: September 14, 2006, 11:08:20 AM »
Okay, im about as unhappy as everyone else about the controller price of $60!  But I couldn't think of any multiplayer games that required the nunchuck, so I'm thinking I can get away with just the packaged one and the three remotes for the moment, do any   multiplayer games require the nunchuck?

Madden does. I assume Red Steel does.

Fortunatley, Trauma Center requires neither an extra nunchaku or extra wiimote for multiplayer.

I'm sure any FPS will require the nunchuk (hence, multiplayer will, too).
Why must all things be so bright? Why can things not appear only in hues of brown! I am so serious about this! Dull colors are the future! The next generation! I will never accept a world with such bright colors! It is far too childish! I will rage against your cheery palette with my last breath!

This brings up an interesting point.  Has Nintendo split their userbase by selling the two parts seperately?  Now if a dev makes a multiplayer game they can't assume everyone can play it unless they just use the remote.  There is no guarantee that the person will have enough nunchuks.  Or what about the classic controller?  It isn't even packed in with the console.  Is someone wants to make something with very traditional controls they're pretty much supporting the Superscope.  They can't even be sure people can play it one player.

I think Nintendo may have screwed up multiplayer games on the Wii.  An FPS needs both parts but how many of those are going to be made when the developer has no idea what controller options the Wii owner has for multiplayer?  If all of them play it safe and just support the remote we're going to be pretty limited for multiplayer.

I assume games we'll see fpses tack on multipayer 'light-gun' modes in addition to more traditional, nunchaku-enabled modes.

Does this split the userbase? Yeah. It's hard for me to say how this will impact things....on the one hand, requiring multiple controllers already splits the userbase. Also, it seems reasonable to assume most serious gamers will have the requisite controllers. On the other hand, the ps's multi-tap stupidity did seem to limit the amount of people who played 4-player games.

Well, there's not exactly a guarantee that they'll even have enough remotes.  But that doesn't stop devs from making multiplayer games, now does it?
