Tecmo to "aggressively" support Virtual Console
« on: August 30, 2006, 12:18:34 AM »
I was hoping for some VC news at Leipzig, but we didn't get any morsels from that show. Here's a bit of news on that front, though. Tecmo has confirmed that they will back the Virtual Console strongly. This is welcome news, since we haven't heard much about this feature for a while. Hopefully the infrastructre and support will be in place for launch..
Quote

The creator of Tecmo Bowl and Ninja Gaiden is onboard with the virtual console.

With Wii’s launch growing closer and closer with each day, publishers are finally starting to their weight on the Wii Virtual Console bandwagon. You can now add another name to the list of supporters: Tecmo. In a financial report on August 28, 2006, the company promised to support Nintendo’s Wii download service “aggressively.” Unfortunately, no other details were mentioned.
And also, another piece of information..
Quote

The developer is readying Super Swing Golf Pangya for the Wii's launch later this year. Meanwhile, it is expected that the Virtual Console feature will be unveiled during a Nintendo Press event in North America on September 14th.
So, I guess that event really will be a big one - looking forward to it!

*Crosses fingers that we get Dead or Alive on the VC*

Oh man if DoA shows up on the VC, Would that then count twords having a DoA game on a Nintendo system? Could we see Kasumi in Super Smash Bros?

How would you put DoA on the VC?

I would asume it would be pretty easy to bring the orignal PSX (or Sega Saturn) version of DoA over and maybe even DoA2 from the Dreamcast to the VC.
The orignal PSX version is only about 150MB and with todays compression it could easly be dropped down lower and DoA2 was only 300MB on the Dreamcast.
There are bigger game demos on XboxLive so I don't think it would be that hard.

The Virtual Console is designed to bring ports of NES, SNES, Genesis, TurboGraphix 16, and Nintendo 64 games.  Not to bring ports of PSX games or Saturn games.  The system isn't decided for CD size downloads.  So I wouldn't expect DOA.

they also announced patches, which can be up to 200 meg in PC world
Nintendo never said they wouldnt allow files bigger then 64meg, and as stated by the person u disagree'ed with, 100-200meg psx games could be ported to VC (point blank was 200meg for psx, yet its like 15meg for nds)

However, there's the issue of emulating PSX in there.  I think there's a slight chance of maybe one day seeing Saturn games on the VC, but Playstation?  I doubt it.

I'm crossing my fingers for Ninja Gaiden Trilogy...or even the originals, if they would just include a save feature...in fact I'm hoping for save features on a lot of older games.
That's my opinion, not yours.

publishers are finally starting to their weight on the Wii Virtual Console bandwagon.

It's still early, but I'm going to go ahead and count this as today's worst mangling of the language.

This is good news, but I can't think of any games of theirs I'd want to get on the VC.  I really liked Ninja Gaiden, but I could never figure out how to beat the next to the last boss.  I don't think I have the patience to deal with such punishing games today.  What else did they make, besides Tecmo Bowl?

Why not PSX games? The Xbox360 is getting the PSX version of 'Castlevania: Symphony of the Night' after all. So there is always a chance of seeing PSX games on the VC.

There is also the Arcade version of DoA that could also be used. And SNK has mentioned that they are in talks to be bring over some of their Arcade hits and SNK arcade games are defintly out side the 64MB limit. The Wii has 512MB of Flash memory you could get both DoA and DoA2 in there. Sure you won't have room for much more, but thats why Nintendo is also using SD Cards and USB HDD.

Nintendo never said that they won't alow CD games and we don't know the 'offical' limits of the VC. We could very well see PSX, TurboGraphix CD, SegaCD, Saturn,  DreamCast and even GameCube games.

I was about to ask the same thing, PartyBear.  What else?

I know in Japan they released a few more games, like the Captain Tsubasa games and I think the Wonder Project J games (EDIT: oops), but for North America, all I can think of are the three NES Ninja Gaiden games, the trilogy on the Super NES, Tecmo Bowl (and probably a Super Tecmo Bowl or other variants), and that's pretty much it.

So, essentially, they're "aggressively" supporting the Virtual Console with two major series...and that may be it?  Maybe we should look up Tecmo's profile on GameFAQs...  EDIT: Apparently they did Solomon's Key, Fire 'N' Ice, Rygar, and a bunch of other Tecmo sports games.

Anyway, I just want to say that Ashtar from Ninja Gaiden II: The Dark Sword Of Chaos was one of the coolest villains EVER.  Or at least, he looked pretty crazy evil at the time, not many NES baddies even came close.

Some one told me once that it wasn't her but you could unlock her outfit.

Capamerica: You're right, I forgot about that Xbox 360 release.  So I guess there's some hope after all.  I wonder what Konami went through to get SOTN on 360?  Did they get their hands on an emulator, or did they recompile it or something?

That is the big question I have also.
I just know they have been making it clear that the XboxLive version is the PSX version and not the Sega Saturn one.

Now we need some bigger companies to follow suit.

Except Capcom seems to like remaking their games for the PSP, and Square-Enix is remaking games for the GBA, so maybe their classic games won't be available for awhile.  Well, those two are the remake/rerelease kings, so they probably will have VC stuff at some point in time, it's really more a question of "when" than "if".

Wow, this is my 1000th post!  I spend too much time here.

I bet we'll see the old NES Square games on the VC and maybe a few of the SNES games that have already been re-released.

Now I can get me some Solomon's Key action without taking 20 minutes trying to get my cartridge to work.     Rygar too, and that's enough for me.

I do however find Tecmo quite spineless when announcing they're supporting the VC so aggressively, but giving the actual console jack frigging sh!t.  Now lets hear Konami announce Gradius for the VC, but send all of their Castlevania games to the Xbox 360.

I wanted Ninja Gaiden Trilogy on GBA or DS, but with the rumored D/L transfer or something of the sort... if not, no biggie.

My goodness, I thought my iTunes account was bad ($450.00 and counting). If they keep this up I'll be working for just to support my habit.
