Super Sprite Brothers...
« on: August 25, 2006, 11:37:11 AM »
I want a 2D fighting game with sprites, in the fashion of Super Smash Brothers.

On line.

Who's with me?

That's why they invented Jump Ultimate Stars.
Why must all things be so bright? Why can things not appear only in hues of brown! I am so serious about this! Dull colors are the future! The next generation! I will never accept a world with such bright colors! It is far too childish! I will rage against your cheery palette with my last breath!

Jump superstars is far from a smash brothers clone in my humble opinion.  It's an entertaining game though.

Yes, I would like.

Edit: I'd also like the Jump games, but I guess the liscencing nightmare keeps them from bringing them here, and I'm too lazy to learn Japanese.
That's my opinion, not yours.

Because it makes for a cool name?

I was thinking just 2D characters like Shadow Battle was in FSA... doesn't *have* to be sprites though...

2D has a certain charm that 3D doesn't.

I perfer 2D over 3D every time.

I would love this game.

Personally I would love Super Jump Star, and Ultimate Jump Star to be released in America but I know it won't happen.  If Nintendo was smart they would make an English language option in the game so that people can import the game.

They should definitely use the Jump engine for Nintendo characters.

Maybe have it interact with the Wii version.

I don't know any Japanese and after a bit of trial and error playing becomes second nature. Fantastic game.

Only problem is matching the pictures but then again I wouldn't be any better at that even if they were labelled in English.

I still say Capcom should drag the MvC2 engine back out, ink a deal with Sega and Nintendo, and give me my damn  Nintendo vs Sega! 46 chars from the start with another 26 - 30 unlockable! (At least 10 being Capcom cameos). I would kill a man to see this game realized.

UniversalJuan:  I say use the Street Fighter 3 Engine and atleast partner with Nintendo first.

Most of the Nintendo characters will need to be animated by Capcom anyway, so you should use the better Engine and animation.

If you could get Sega as well Great.

Or how about Sega, Capcom, SNK, and Nintendo.

With all those companies you can do 50 characters.  Around 12 characters for each company would be a great lineup.

Spak, it's really my love of MvC2 talking, however I also happen to love SF3:TS (And since I'm at it, Project Justice: Rival Schools, and pick a Guilty Gear). I sya MvC2 because the type of game MvC2 seems to support the sheer insanity a Nintendo vs Sega would be. Give us NvS first and then we can talk a marriage of NvSvCvSNK...which would, by the way, make me nearly die.

Juan:  It was not the MvC2 Engine that allowed that game to exist.  It was the game design used in the Engine.

I am pretty sure you could get the same results using the more powerful Street Fighter 3 fighting engine and still have the crazy madiness in the game.

I personally would want the game to go more towards Street Fighter 3 or the Street Fighter vs. SNK games than the Marvel vs games.  The reason being is that those games seem to be focused more on pure fighting than effects.  They just feel more classy when you play the game.

I don't want any Nintendo Fighter to seem glitzy or pure flash.  I want the game to feel refined, well tuned; like a Nintendo game should.  And I definately want it 2D.  3D would ruin what I would desire fore a Nintendo fighter.

I think it is also more probable to get Capcom vs Nintendo alone, or even Capcom vs Nintendo vs SNK before getting the added treat of Sega as well.  And I would be all for that.  Simply add that together and the sequel can include Sega for much larger sales and bigger hype.

(Always leave a means for the sequel to be bigger and better.)

If something like this came to be, Nintendo would have 99% marketshare with the Wii in all regions. The crazy thing is, it wouldn't be so hard to do imo.

True it will be hard to do.

That is why I think Capcom vs. Nintendo would be the easiest.  Nintendo would fund the game or partially fund the game, and Capcom's animators and such would create the new sprites and animation for the game...under Nintendo's watchful eye.  Nintendo and Capcom could both donate talent to form a small team to develop the game and create unique moves for the new Nintendo characters.

I could see SNK characters being in the game...but it really wouldn't be neccessary with Capcom being able to put:

Strider,
Mega man,
Street Fighter Characters,
Dark Stalkers Characters,
Dante,
Viewtiful Joe,

and Nintendo providing characters like:

Any Melee or Brawl character.

Mario,
Link,
Pit,
Samus,
Kirby,
ect,

And before you say Nintendo already has a fighter with Smash Brothers, this is fundamentally a completely different game and play style...so they could co-exist.

And I do agree...Nintendo would own Japan with this game exclusive...and I think would gather huge support in all other territories.  Just look what Jump Super Stars did for Nintendo DS sales in Japan.  Imagine if that game was released world wide.

Athurn and Spak in a way - The MvC2 engine just seems so better suited to a NvS idea that it drives me nuts! Its the design and engine of MvC2 that's so over the top that it would support such a thing. Shenmue/Link/Leon vs. Samus/Jill/Orta would do damn well with SF3:TS engine, but Sonic/Joe/Mario vs. Peach/Roll/Amy(Rose) would fit better with MvC2, and the aforementioned matchup would also work in the MvC2 style (And yes, I realize I chose battle of the sexes + battle of the companies ). Just my two cents anyway. I think both engines would make a great game, it's jsut that I think MvC2 would make for the better (and more hectic) one. Ah, I can't wait till Friday so I can whip out my Dreamcast again for another 3 hours MvC2 fest ;x (Weekly event now)
