The Gamecube doesn't read disks very often
« on: August 08, 2006, 11:42:14 AM »
my friends gamecube stopped reading disks, for the most part. Every now and then the disk gets past the loading stage, not very often. Is there any advice anyone can give me?

Try either blowing a can of compressed air to get rid of any dust particles or use a cotton swab (Q-tip) and some rubbing alcohol to carefully clean the lens. If that doesn't work, the drive might be shot. The best thing to do then would be to either replace the GameCube with a new one or wait a few months for the Wii to come out (it is backwards compatible with the GameCube).

New Gamecubes are only 99 bucks.

Seriously though, My Q quit.  It was a sad day.  I'm now running on your standard GCN with a freeloader.

Probably shouldn't be too hard to borrow a GameCube off of someone else who isn't using it.  It's only a few months until the Wii comes out, so get that, instead of spending the money on a whole new 'Cube.

if you're are getting DRE's, you could try adjusting the laser (there are plenty of guides around, and really easy to do), that gave my GC around a year and half more....then I had to do it again (a couple of weeks ago) and now it works prefectly fine again ^^
