You heard right... the seven launch day games include Far Cry and Blazing Angels.

UBISOFT EXPANDS SUPPORT FOR NINTENDO’S Wii WITH SEVEN TITLES AVAILABLE AT LAUNCH

More Video Game Titles for the Revolutionary New Console on the Way in 2007

Paris, FRANCE – August 3rd, 2006 – Today Ubisoft, one of the world’s largest video game publishers, announced that it is preparing seven titles for the upcoming launch of Nintendo’s highly anticipated Wii™. In addition to previously announced titles Rayman Raving Rabbids™ and Red Steel™, both designed specifically for the Wii, Ubisoft will deliver Wii versions of driving game Monster 4X4 World Circuit, Sony Pictures Animation’s Open Season™, a game based on the popular Far Cry® franchise, Blazing Angels™ Squadrons of WW II and GT Pro Series, developed exclusively for the Wii by MTO. Ltd. With seven announced titles available at launch and with many more titles currently in development, Ubisoft expects to provide the richest third-party lineup for the Wii’s introduction and beyond with an exciting combination of new intellectual properties and established franchises.

“We’re thrilled that Ubisoft will be unveiling Wii versions of both exclusive new IP and established franchises," said Reggie Fils-Aime, president and chief operating officer for Nintendo of America. “Bursting with creativity, innovation and unadulterated fun, these Ubisoft games embody the qualities that will make Wii a huge hit with gamers new and established, young and old."

“Media and analysts agree that Ubisoft has the greatest potential for reward with the new console’s launch because we believed in its potential from the beginning," said Laurent Detoc, president of Ubisoft North America. “With an impressive lineup of launch games that offer something for everyone, we are in a unique position to benefit from the Wii’s success in appealing to both new and hardcore gamers."

Ubisoft’s Wii Launch Titles:

Blazing Angels®: Squadrons of WW II: As a squadron leader and ace fighter pilot, leverage the Wii controller to experience intense dog fighting in the famous air battles of WW II. Air combat simulation, rating pending.

Far Cry®: As Jack Carver, use the Wii Remote to drive, shoot, slash, jump and climb your way through a rebel-infested tropical hell. First-person action shooter, rating pending.

GT Pro Series: Immerse yourself in the fast-paced action of this exclusive Wii car-racing game and take full advantage of the Wii Remote. Racing game, rating pending.

Open Season™: Allows gamers to relive the humor and adventure of Sony Pictures Animation’s highly anticipated, first feature-length CG animated film. Kids adventure, rating pending.

Monster 4X4 World Circuit: Use the Wii Remote to perform spectacular stunts, jump and race the most powerful Monster Trucks, and go head-to-head in pulse-pounding off-road competitions all over the world. Truck racing, rating pending.

Rayman Raving Rabbids™: Experience the return of Rayman when his world is threatened by a devastating invasion of crazed, out-of-control bunnies. Whether it be crazy Kung-Fu action or competing in the cow toss, players will use the Wii Remote in the most imaginative and innovative ways possible to defeat these whacky rabbids. Action-adventure, rating pending.

Red Steel™: This Wii exclusive title takes place in modern-day Japan and challenges players to master both the ancient art of the katana and the sophisticated technology of modern firearms. First-person action, rating pending.

I'm taking a wait and see approach to every game except Zelda and Metroid.  Some of those Ubisoft games look like they have potential though.  I'll be keeping an eye on them.  Along with Excite Truck and a few others.

7 launch titles? Has any third party company ever releases that many launch games for a system launch before? I guess Ubisoft is gonna show why other third parties should have jumped on board sooner.

In a way this is bad for me, I am only gonna have enougth money for the Wii and 1(maybe 2) games at launch. There are several of these games I want.

Is Monster 4X4 about Bigfoot type monster trucks?  Otherwise, it sounds really similar to Excite Truck.

"Monster 4X4 World Circuit: Use the Wii Remote to perform spectacular stunts, jump and race the most powerful Monster Trucks, and go head-to-head in pulse-pounding off-road competitions all over the world. Truck racing, rating pending."

Focus, focus.

Anyway, I'm surprised at this anouncement.

I tried the Blazing Angels PC demo and it was fun, so I hope they deliver that fun on Wii. Oh and I hope I can have online dogfights.

As for Far Cry I am currently playing it on PC and I it's ok but nothing special, not even at above average.

GT Pro Series?! Monster 4X4 WC?! LOL! At least Wii isn't lacking in racing games.

The Wii launch line-up is definately one of the toughest I've seen, so much to choose from and so little money for the majority of buyers.

Before this the Wii already had Zelda and Metroid and Rayman and Red Steel and EA's Madden! What are you talking about?!?!

You know its strange, I have seen Wii Announcements but very little PS3 Announcements (except for all these "doom" articles).

Man i can really picture Ubisoft's Next fiscal earnings "Ubisoft stock Raving Rabidly sky high!"  yeah i kinda am getting into Rayman even though I've never played a previous title.....strange, i think its just cause the game seems so funny.

freaking awesome.

two racing games, two fps's, aerial combat, kids adventure, and adventure.

Good thing I only need to buy 4 of those... maybe 5, or 6, but at least not all 7, i'm not gonna get open season, unless i buy it for my little sister, but then i'd have to buy her, her own wii cuz i'm never getting off of mine, damn you nintendo.

FarCry?  I'm not big on FPSes but that seemed big on PCs so maybe this'll turn some heads.  o_0

I heard a Prince Of Persia game is coming to the Wii and continuing Beyond Good & Evil hasn't been totally ruled out yet - those are the two UbiSoft franchises I'm looking forward to seeing more of.  I wouldn't need them at launch, but I hope they'll come out eventually.

UbiSoft games this current-gen have tended to come out on all three consoles as well as the PC.  Thanks to the controller, I'm thinking the Wii versions of games will be better, and that there will be actual Nintendo exclusives.  If other third-party developers follow suit, there's nothing but victory for the "Big N".

EDIT: I forgot about Myst...how could I?  o_0  I guess the series is over but I wouldn't mind that style of game on the Wii.  It's rare enough as it is on PCs, and consoles haven't presented games like that very well with a usual lack of a mouse.

Well, judging from the brief description of Far Cry in the ign interview, I'd say this particular version can't be ported completely intact to any other platform.

Sounds promising.

This support by Ubisoft is jaw dropping, I believe this would be the first time in the last few generations (not sure about NES or SNES) where a 3rd party matched or surpassed Nintendo when it came to launch titles.

I think IGN says something to the affect that it is for sure launch day and you aren't misreading it. So sounds like these games are coming out for launch day! I wonder how long they have been in development?
