Head into March by dusting off a game you haven't played in a while. How about Eternal Darkness?

Tomorrow is the first weekday in a new month, PGC's birthday month, in fact. Why don't you help us celebrate by playing a game that maybe you've been neglecting for a while?3

Our suggestion is the fabulous Eternal Darkness. ED is a great game, very dark and moody. Of course, there are also the outstanding "Insanity Effects", which constantly remind you that things are not always as they seem. Plus, Eternal Darkness just won an AIAS award, even more reason to rediscover this sleeper hit.3

Most of you that go to school will probably be home by 3:00, maybe a little after. You owe it to yourself, and the great people at Silicon Knights to pop in your copy of Eternal Darkness and relive what is destined to be a classic.3

If you've already finished Eternal Darkness, I might suggest skipping ahead to the Paul Luther chapter. It's Denis' favorite, and a great example of excellent storytelling. I won't say anything more, lest I ruin it for someone. It's chapter seven, for those of you that are interested.

They are probably trying to get people to play/buy the game. Apparantly you either haven't played the game at all and you need to run out and buy a copy, or you need to play it again.

One word to describe Eternal Darkness: masterful. It's one of the few games in recent memory that my desire to finish it increased as I played through it. And even once is not enough. I may take you up on that offer, Rick, and do a quick run-through tomorrow, just as I've played through Link to the Past countless times. And this game sticks with you...

I can still hear, in my mind, the half-whispered chanting of runes: Tier, Pargon, Antorbo, Cha'turgah, Xel'toth. Or the sound made while teleporting. Or any of a dozen voices saying "This... isn't... HAPPENING!" The feeling of dread walking through the mansion the first time. The satisfaction of watching the endings. And the insanity effects. Oh, God, the insanity effects. Not the blatant ones, mind you, but the more subtle insanity effects that make you afraid to get up from the couch at bedtime, that haunt your dreams, and make you see things out of the corner of your eye.

You know a game is good when it becomes part of you and your friends' culture. i remember working at Gamestop, i went to the back room, then when i opened the door, someone put the Eternal Darkness display right in front of the door. i closed and reopened it, and it was gone. i fell to my knees and screamed "This... isn't happening to me!!"

Everything is woven together so seamlessly, from the intelligent storytelling, to the simple yet effective magick system, to those crazy insanity effects. ED is also one of the few games where i never tired of casting magick.

If you want to get an idea of the type of quality to expect in Too Human, look no further than Eternal Darkness.

All you have to do also is change the clock on your Gamecube to March 03, 2003 to whenever you want. That way you won't have to miss it at all.

It's so funny you mention this. For like the last two weeks everywhere I look people have been talking up ED, I finally decided I would buy it but Best Buy did not have a single copy, but Funcoland did, a brand new copy, 10.00, gaming bliss (at least thus far).

This game freaked me out way more than any RE game could ever hope to.I just wish I hadn't of traded in my copy after beating it

Does anybody else do this a lot then regret it?

Yup, that is why I quit doing it. There was a SEGA Genesis game that I sold off and then later wanted it back, cost me a bundle on eBay because the game was long ago out of publication and considered a collectors item. So after that I never sold any more off.

Heh, I love Eternal Darkness. Perhaps the fighting engine wasn't as good as I would've hoped but aside from that I really don't have any major complaints. Plus the storyline itself was fantastic. Not only was it well written, it was also executed well (a.k.a. excellent storytelling).

And Paul Luther's chapter really was great

BTW Billy... I kinda had the same reaction you did when I first saw the Guardian

Although at the same time I was getting into the mindset of "boss battle time"

One of the things i like about in Eternal Darkness is in the way you talk to NPC's. They don't actually use a direct quote from the NPC's they say something like this:

"As you talk to this scared frail old man you can tell he half expects to see the possesed bishop coming for him at any second..."

Thats the kind of thing they do in novels. Just something i found very subtle that not many games do.

I absolutely love this game, and coincidentally restarted it last night, and I'm at the beginning of Maximillian's chapter. Ah...what fun.

Played Paul Luther's chapter today from 3:30 to around 4:00 and i noticed nothing different.
