Maybe it's NBA Jam (of course, that is older than 10 years and it's been ported a bunch, but the arcade perfect version might be coming).  You never can tell.

Or else it's a computer game that never was ported to a console.  Don't know any that are 10 years old that could actually be under 512MB though.

Maybe it's Doom?  It would be pretty cool if they included it with online support.

"Maybe it's Doom? It would be pretty cool if they included it with online support."

Doom with online support would be nice but I got my brother the Doom Collector's Edition for Christmas and it plays perfectly on XP.  Doom is a classic that totally holds up but it would be a real letdown if that's what the secret game was.  It is easy as hell to have a working version of that game and legally too.

A general PC emulator though for DOS games that don't work on XP would be a pretty big deal.  Maybe that's it.  Retro game communities sure as hell have wanted an easy solution for playing those games for a while now.  Though without a keyboard and mouse who really cares?  Retro PC games with console controls aren't going to be so hot.

Isn't the original Doom (or DOOM, whatever) on Xbox Live Arcade now with online support?  Whoever started this particular rumour makes it sound like it's something that hasn't been done before.  So I would guess that anything on XBLA is out.

MAME: multiple arcade machine emulator?

There are many arcade roms which have no means of distribution and if Nintendo were to buy out the MAME project, they'd have access to an emulator which already runs well over a thousand arcade roms, including old favorites like TMNT and the Simpsons, both by Konami.

EDIT: Rereading the quote, I'm betting it's the ability to download VC games onto your DS and play them there.

You have to figure that the DS storage memory is likely more than enough to handle most any VC game so it's definitely an option for them.

Depends.

The oldest are under 10k. Newer ones can be about 12 MB (Golden Axe, Revenge of the Death Adder) and ones which include video and such can be much larger.

I haven't read this rumor all that much.  Something about VC support for a classic set of games that isn't for a console currently supported and isn't Japanese?

Has anyone said anything about it being SCUMM?

I think that would rock pretty hard.  Point and click games with Wii pointer support?

That reminds me.  As long as we're being hopeful, maybe it's an honest-to-goodness confirmation of the new episodic Sam and Max game coming to the Wii.

This is the first thing I thought of.  Sam and Max, Monkey Island, and all that jazz.  I want to see Grimm Fandango brought to the vc though.  That game was awesome.

point n' click PC adveture games sounds like the most logical one.
I would have said MAME but the "Not of Japanese origin" pretty much ended that.

When I first read the story I thought it could have been one of these:
- Final Fantasy VII on the VC since FFVII came out in 1997 it would make it close to 10 years old. Thou the built-in memeory wouldn't really suport it, maybe by then Nintendo would alow you to run games off of a USB or SD card.

- SNK NEO-GEO, It came out in 1990 and its a retro gamers dream. And SNK has mentioned that they were in talks with Nintendo about suporting the VC

- MAME, Arcade games would be a pretty safe bet, I mean MS has arcade games.

- Apple Pippin games, Yes all 20(give or take) games for it.

- Classic PC FPS (Doom, Quake, Wolfenstein, Duke Nukem)

I thought it was already confirmed with with all the "we want to release it for Wii but lack devkits" and Nintendo contacting them later...

Rumors from the New EGM (Jan 07)

Quote

Mii Crossing. Mii's will be your avatar in the next Animal Crossing. All the shirts and accessories you collect will cross over to other games.

Sticky Balls. The New Katamari that is coming to Wii (PS3 & XBLA)

question. How often do EGM rumors turn out to be true?

Oh man, EGM is REAAAAALLY stretching with the Animal Crossing Mii rumour... *rolls eyes*

(I don't really understand what they mean by having accessories "cross over to other games" though...Do they mean that it'll save onto the flash memory so your Miis will appear with the accessories in the Mii Channel?)
