"Edit: Or perhaps it will be some type of feature. A library listing all possible VC games? "

A VC Most Wanted Poll?
I could see that working to a certain extent.

A monthly list of about 100 or so games(some popular some not)* get voted on and 5-10 of those get released every week from the Top 50 or so chosen/voted games. Every month the 100 list get reshuffled and some of the higher voted stragglers get left on and lots of new choices show up. Sounds like a plan, and a good way for Nintendo to keep the players involved and aware and keep VC sales up at the same time.

*all chosen by Nintendo of course

I agree with Rhoq, I think it will be the addition of other non-nintendo platforms.  Atari, Intellevision, Colecovision, etc.  I would love if Nintendo released free dev kits to the homebrew community for free VC games.  Or if Nintendo brought new DS games to the VC. I'm dying to play New Super Mario Bros, but i'm not going to buy a DS.

I think the "ten years" comment suggests something that hasn't been localized in North America getting translated.  Something like the missing Dragon Quests or Fire Emblem.  Unless "ten years" is just a dumb choice of words.

It can't be Goldeneye because it came out in 1997, less than ten years ago.  And a re-release of Goldeneye has only become a really big "fantasy game" since Rare left Nintendo and thus created the weird scenario of the publisher, developer, and licenced property itself all being seperated from each other.

Something like Neo-Geo games on the VC also isn't ten years old.  Features specific to the VC itself have only been in demand since the concept was annouced which was probably not even two years ago.

"Ten years" suggests that this is something we've wanted since well before the VC was annouced.

"Or if Nintendo brought new DS games to the VC. I'm dying to play New Super Mario Bros, but i'm not going to buy a DS."

I'd rather have a DS player so I don't have to rebuy my games.  Plus that would make way more sense for Nintendo.  VC DS sales eating into their DS game sales wouldn't be very good.  They want you to own two different systems or at the very least buy a piece of hardware for your Wii.

To sum up/recap the hints given on the rllmuk forum:

- Around a decade old
- Not a Sega or Nintendo game
- Not for a system supported by the VC currently
- Not of Japanese origin
- Not on THIS LIST

Retro Gamer mag will have an exclusive on the announcement, so it's bound to be something European and once-cancelled. I bet it's a left-for-dead Amiga title.

that should narrow it down.

"I agree with Rhoq, I think it will be the addition of other non-nintendo platforms."
not to nit-pick but I believe I brough the inclusion on non-nintendo platform 1st w/ Neo-geo or Arcade or something. [/nit-picking] :P

I would think it's the addition of a new system, atari 2600 sounds probable....however, how much would you be willing to spend on 2600 games, I know I would rather spend my money on better games.   Nintendo DS will never make it's way to VC, give it up.  Now download station, maybe....I'd love to see that.  The polling question I would love to see too....it would make it so the games people want to buy would make their way to the VC.

Maybe that Castlevania game for the PC Engine, Rondo Blood or something like that.  Isn't that considered one of the best Castlevania's ever and it never showed up here?

I think it's Neo Geo.  Those games used to sell for $200, so not nearly enough people played them.  It's not like SNK is making any money off them now, so charging $10 on the VC will make everyone happy.  Yes, I know 10 is a little high, but for something pretty rare, I would pay it.

Rondo Of Blood, or Chi no Rondo.  Somehow Zeric (great mapper, BTW) managed to map that game recently and the maps are now on my web site (VGMaps.com).  Just the other day it was number 1 on a daily GameFAQs top ten list (funny, I never usually read those) of the top ten games for consoles you've never owned.  Supposedly it comes right before Symphony Of The Night (I think the ending is SoTN's intro), but it's more linear like all the previous CastleVania games were.

I don't think that would be this particular big deal in question, but it would be sweet for that game to be more accessible.  Only problem is, a torrent shows that this game is like 400 MB.  Or at least its imagefile, I don't know how compressed it could be or how much of that is wasted space.  It was on the PC Engine CD thingy so it's quite unlikely as most CD games would be.

All this hype for what will turn out to be a search feature.

It's Mame.  Thats the only thing that would make the VC "very interesting".  Legal Arcade emulation would rock.
Also PS1 as a Virtual Console system would be something "really interesting."

The point of Virtual Boy games is to play them on a Virtual Boy, even if it'll sear your eyes out.

I was already a total Nintendo fanboy before that time, but even I was hesitant about the Virtual Boy.  So I just rented it (along with Red Alarm and Teleroboxer).  I ignored the many of the ocassional in-game "take a break" warnings.  I probably shouldn't've.  Even though I doubt it caused any serious and/or permanent damage, the warnings are there for a reason (probably to cover Nintendo's butt) but at the very least I didn't want to look at anything red for the next couple days.

Weren't there only a dozen or so VB games?  Other than Teleroboxer I was only interested in Mario Clash (not sure if that ever came out, but wasn't that shown in a WarioWare game?), Wario Land VB (or was it Wario Cruise?), and maybe the original Mario Tennis.

I thought the Super Mario Bros. Super Show and The Legend Of Zelda cartoon DVDs were produced by Sony BMG/Entertainment/something or other so wouldn't it be more likely as PS3 downloadable content?

I like Zelda's voice in that show ( o_0 ) but Twilight Princess Zelda is now the hottest Zelda IMO.

Following up on that GamesTM rumour about something going down with the Virtual Console...
It's not a console game, and it's not from Japan.

What does that leave us with?  Not many of the guesses so far.  Computer/arcade games of the non-Japanese variety are left, I guess.

i hope it's not something wiitarded like the arcade version of Pong. That would be a huge let down. Although with all the hype about this "mystery game" i'm sure it will be somewhat of a letdown at least to the fanboyz

If it ain't a console game and it ain't from Japan then I'm really not all that interested.

I really can't imagine any non-Japanese arcade/PC/portable games being released on the VC being a huge deal.  At least nothing that compares to how the rumour was worded.

Has there been some non-Japanese arcade/PC/portable game that hasn't been playable for a long period of time?  A lot of classic PC games are really hard or just outright impossible to play on modern XP machines so I guess a title like that arriving on the VC would be a pretty big deal.  But a lot of the big titles have been re-released in some form on compilations that work on XP machines or fans have made their own workarounds.

Maybe it's Star Control II.  Technically that was released on a the 3DO console but it is originally a computer game and it's American and it has been hyped for years as one of the best games of all time.  I know there was some project involving the source code from the 3DO game to get something that works on modern PCs but I don't know if it ever worked out.  This just popped into my head a second ago though and I have no faith at all in that guess.

I wouldn't be surprised if the result was in fact a console game (or had been ported to a console at some point) made in Japan in which demand has existed for far less than ten years.  A lot of people are idiots and don't do enough research.  Hell for a second I was trying to think of an American arcade game I would want localized and the first games I thought of were X-Men and WWF Wrestlefest.  Both of them have American licences but are made by Japanese companies so at first thought I thought they qualified.  You kind of assume a WWF game is American, you know?  The guy giving the clues might be doing the same thing.  And gaming years are like dog years and half the time when someone says "10 years" they don't realize the game is much newer than that (or older).  I've seen some really out there dates thrown around for past release dates.
