Wii to get a Price Drop!?

http://kotaku.com/5357766/wii-price-drop-looks-to-hit-first-week-of-october
Quote
Advance retail listings forwarded to Kotaku indicate that Nintendo is planning to issue its first price drop on the Wii, with a less expensive version of the console—currently priced at $249 USD—coming the first week of October.

That listing comes from an early version of a Walmart ad that loosely dates, but does not price a "rollback" for Nintendo's console. While the ad is not official confirmation of a price drop, the timing makes sense, as the Wii is about to enter its fourth holiday shopping season at its original price.

Should Nintendo announce a price drop prior to October, it has a venue at which to do it. The company will be participating at the Kyoto Cross Media Experience 2009, a multimedia event that runs September 26th to October 4th, overlapping with the Tokyo Game Show.

Wii didn't drop in price, Wii Sports did, it's obsolete next to Resort.  $50 to $0.  Wii is still super-valued and is just catching up with the price in Japan.

You're right.  That's why it needed gradual price drops, and needs a little more, if you ask me.

I don't hear about Japan getting a price drop, which means $200 is the magick value number.  End of the road, people.  Just like DS, 1 pseudo price drop is all we're getting.

Since it doesn't have a free game, there's nothing to drop in value.  $200, BAM, stays there.  No drop.  Solidarity.  Victory.

A price drop will help sales, especially near the holidays, even if it isn't really a price drop.

2D Mario (aka Software the Wii was lacking) would've helped sales anyway, regardless of price drop.

Looks like it's still included though. They either show it or mention it in both pictures.

Looks like their offsetting the cut by letting customers by WiiMotion+ separately.  I figured they'd want everyone to have one automatically, but maybe the $50 reduction is more attractive marketing.

Wii Sports will not be sold separately because Nintendo never intended to supply retail game cases to North America.

Well, it is looking like Nintendo has finally caved on a price drop for the system. What are the chances of them introducing a Player's Choice lineup sometime next year or so? With the other two systems boasting an ever-growing library of Greatest/ Platinum Hits, having such a line on Wii might help sales, if it needs it. I'd certainly like to see it, but I also really doubt it.

Mario Kart? That's still in the sales charts even without a drop AFAIK.

That's true, but by leaving Mario kart out of the Player's choice, you could damage its reputation.

What reputation is there to damage?

And if there's no Player's Choice, then game packages won't be soiled by awful labeling.
