Thinking about buying an Xbox360?
« on: June 30, 2006, 09:39:03 AM »
Well Dell.com is selling them Premium versions for $359.00 and 10% off of the games. That = $40 off normal price.

but also a Toshiba exec. has gone on record saying that
Quote

“I would imagine that there are plans in place to put an HD DVD drive internally in future revisions of the product,” says Whittard. “They’re not speaking about it publicly at the moment but I would expect them to do that and fairly soon.”
Will it happen? Is it worth waiting for? Why not just buy the external add-on? Will games eventually be released on it?

So many questions, does anyone have answers?

It won't happen. There won't be an internal HD-DVD drive and there will not be any HD-DVD games.

Peter Moore stated that releasing an Xbox 360 with an internal HD-DVD drive would fragment the install base. The idea for the drive is simply to give 360 owners the option of watching HD-DVD movies.

If it is going to implemented, then it's worth waiting for, especially if the price stays the same.

Who wouldn't a "free" HD-DVD drive when you were going to buy a 360 anyways?

I don't see the point of having an external HD-DVD drive, especially if it doesn't play games on HD-DVDs.

That's like taking a DVD player and plugging it into your GameCube somehow and claiming that the GameCube can play DVDs.  Or taking a bunch of tools and duct-taping them together and saying that it's an all-in-one multi-purpose tool.

360 owners getting a HD-DVD player that is cheaper than $500+ is the point.

What there would be no point in is making games on HD-DVD, which only those users could buy.

I wouldn't mind seeing them replace the drive with an HD-DVD at some point, especially if they can keep the price the same. But I hold no hope for games on that format. It'd be nice for movie if that format comes out the winner.
"wow."

what I've heard is that the HD-DVD add-on is going to cost under $200. Which if you think about it thats $200 less us people without HDTV don't have to waste on extra crap in out Xbox360. Sony really should have done the same thing with the PS3 I have no need for a Blu-Ray player so why should I have to pay extra for it?

I like the whole idea of buying it as a add-on. Just at the stand point that I don't have to pay extra for something I don't need.

On another note, since its a External HD-DVD drive you should be able to hook it up to a PC or Laptop and use it too. That is if they are treating it like any other exteral drive.

Saw a few stories online about an Xbox 360 with a built-in HD DVD drive: not true. We have no plans to release an Xbox 360 with an internal HD DVD. What we showcased at E3 was an external HD DVD drive, and we're sticking with that.

We've always had a games-first emphasis with the Xbox, but some consumers can build on the platform - like by adding a Windows Media Center Edition PC. By keeping the drive external, we're offering consumers a choice in creating their own hi-def experiences. So: no plans for an internal HD DVD.

Think of all the Wii and PC games and accessories (not to mention months of MMORPGS) you could get for 360 dollars... *drool*

Go hence, to have more talk of these sad things;

For never was a story of more woe
Than this of Sega and her Mashiro.
