Does anyone still play, or have, Tales of Symphonia?
« on: June 06, 2006, 02:30:36 PM »
I loved this game. I beat it 3 times, and did a butt-load of side missions. The graphics may not have been the best, but i loved the story and the gameplay was addictive as ice cream with cookies and chocolate milk. This is my favorite gamecube game of all time, why does noone ever talk about it anymore?.............................

                  Makes me feel sad.

Well, cuz we all bought it and beat it 10x two years ago right after it came out a fresh $50 purchase.

I visit my friends on weekends.  My friend (my friend's WIFE) and I play it together once in a while.  A couple weeks ago we completed Balacruf Mossoleum -- ON OUR 4TH GAME TOGETHER.

We're all waiting for the next big Tales game.  You're just late to the party.

I <3 TOS.

My friends and I speculated during our playthrough that the Wonderchef was actually the most powerful being in creation.  He could appear anywhere, seemingly travel faster than the speed of sound, and we concluded he should have been a super secret boss.

Sadly, my friends had left by the time I got all the cursed weapons and fought the one guy who was trying raise Cthuhlu.

That was a tough fight.

The curse weapon quest was terrific. It was hard as hell, but it was fun. After beating that boss, the end boss feels a bit underwhelming.  There should be more bosses like that one in very RPG.

Funny how this thread should pop up now!  I just started playing TOS again for the second time a couple of weeks ago.  Excellent game -- I forgot how great it was.

What's this cursed weapon quest you guys speak of?  Was that side-quest available on the first play-through?

1.  Collecting a unique set of weapons which allows you to fight the toughest boss in the game.

2.  Yes.

Yeah, it was. The weopens are freaking hard to get, but it pays off. The final boss in this side quest is 10x harder than Mithos.

Damn, really!?  How the hell did I miss that?

I thought Mithos was pretty weak anyways -- I was so strong by the end of the game.  But I would've been ridiculously strong if I had did that long and involved side-quest.  When does it get started?  On disc 2, I assume?  I'd rather ask you guys than look at a guide, so please don't direct me to gamefaqs!

I'm only at the part where Palmacosta is being attacked by the Desians and Magnius and I have to head back.  So I'm still early on in the game.

I guess I'll give a complete breakdown.

Remember those black treasure chests you may or may not have opened (such as in Garocchia Forest)?  They contain the Devil's Arms, rare weapons sought by the person named Abyssion.

First, obtain the Evil Eye from Toize Valley Mine.

Then find Abyssion, the dark-haired guy on the steps of a building in Flanoir, near the entrance and Inn.  If someone in your party is missing, such as Colette, Abyssion might not show up.

Abyssion will give you Nebilim's Key, allowing you to open the black chests and collect the Devil's Arms.  One weapon is in Sylverant, while the rest are in Tethealla and Welgaia, 9 weapons in all, including the Evil Eye.

When you've found them all, Abyssion will tell you where to meet him, then you all "do stuff."  And the quest is done.

I found the Evil Eye and met Abyssion on my own, but I didn't complete the quest on my first play through.  Largely because I never stayed in the inn in Altamira.  Man, did I feel dumb when I found out about that.  I've played through the game twice, and I'd like to do it two more times to see some different story elements and get all the titles.

Can any of you who've mastered the game tell me if there's any way to open that locked door in the mine?

There are minor changes, mostly in dialogue, depending on which character likes Lloyd the most.

I am one battle away from beating it...

Why haven't I beaten it yet? Well, I was about to until I left town. Then when I came back, I totally forgot what the hell I was suppose to do. So I've been roaming around aimlessly looking for something --- ANYTHING.

I finally gave up.

I bought this game because I wanted to have SOME knowledge of what modern RPGs were like. I love FF6, hated FF7, and haven't really played many RPGs since then.

Ugh. Even though I beat it, I didn't enjoy this game much at all.

If you get lost, you can check the synopsis on the menu screen.  Any plot points listed in yellow are unresolved, and should tell you enough to get you back on track.
