Does the rest of your family play the cube?
« on: March 01, 2003, 05:03:16 PM »
I've been reading a lot of topics lately, and many people have been referring to their moms, dads, sisters, brothers, aunts, etc., who also play the games.

I just thought we'd dedicate a topic to the diversity of games that Nintendo actually spreads across the world.

My mom hasnt played video games since super mario world for snes ( the first game we got).  Both my younger brothers play ps2 and xbox alot, but not so much gamecube.  My father plays like one game per system.  It was super mario world on snes, excitbike on n64 and now its super monkey ball on the cube.  My cousins also got into video games cuz of yours truly and snes as we were pretty much the first of our immediate family to own any kinds of video games

I have devised the ultimate form of torture- not letting my little bros play SSBM all the time. It's an addiction with them, that will never be appeased...seriously, I need to get another WaveBird the way things are going. Other than that though, they don't play much GC. Lots of n64 and gba though, mostly Mario. They played Zelda on SNES for a while, but if you even touch the game slightly, it freezes, and game saves are deleted, so unless we keep it on all the time, we can't exactly progress. My father doesn't think much of videogames, understandably given his background. My mom doesn't really have the time I guess...but hey, you never know.

(ace- my first game was smw on snes too)

My family is a gaming family, we have set up the the 3 systems in the living room and everybody plays. My dad likes mostly all but prefers racing and my mom more the platformers and nontext heavey games. My 29, 28 and 26 year old brothers they all play all the games and my 28 year old sister plays mostly less paced games (monkey island, hot shots golf). We have two gba and three pcs in the den for some serious lan gaming and for a week in May every year we pack the bags to Los Angeles for a little expo they hold there every year, this is going to be our fifth one. Pretty hardcore family no?

In a kind of relate topic this week happen one of those gaming moments, you all know what i'm talking about, those moments you remember for a long while and it happen with a Nintendo game.  I was playing Ocarina Of Time on the bonus disk with my 5 year old niece when out  of the blue she says "this is the best game ever" in a very serious tone, mind you that she gets to see mostly all the games coming out,  then I ask her why, so she goes on to describe how the adventure with the scary elements like the graveyard and the funny like the flying chickens and the hero link and sad deku tree dying, in her way she told me how all this element blends her emotions and thats why this is the best game ever, a very proud moment. How awesome it is that a five year old girl sees the great gameplay of Shigeru Miyamoto's Nintendo. Dare you agree?

It's pretty much me.

MY brothers used to be hardcore gamers, but they only play once in a while (execpt my older brother is now really addicted to OoT/Master quest because it was his favorite game ever).

My grandpa used to play games all the time(he bought me an NES and super mario brothers, I will never forget that), but he died a long time ago.

My dad will often watch me play games.

My mom will often try to secretly sell my games.

My grandma doesn't know what video games are.

Before we bouth an N64, my wife and I would rent it just to play Mario 64. We finally bought the N64 and the game and played it till we finished. We take turns playing the same game, its a great way to spend time with your loved one. Then we played Donkey Kong, and we played The New Tetris a lot. Now on the GameCube, we play Animal Crossing like fiends. I keep trying to get her into playing another game, but she hasn't gotten excited about playing anything else yet. But my wife and I play a lot. I'm waiting for my daughter to be old enough to play.

I'm the gaming fanatic in my family. I'm 30 and have majorly addicted to games since I got my NES in '87. My wife only plays every once in awhile. She got into Animal Crossing for awhile but while I've been playing it 6 months now, she quit about 3 or 4 months ago. She doesn't really play anything now although she really wants me to buy The Sims when it comes out for the GC. My 10 yr old daughter plays a lot. She'll often play my older games though like stuff on the Sega Genesis. She is playing my Zelda Master Quest disc right now too.

I'm pretty much the only one who plays video games in my house. My sister will play on occasions. She used to play Animal Crossing and Tony Hawk's Pro Skater 3. Right now she's really addicted to the OOT bonus disk. She's been bugging me to let her play for a couple weeks. In fact right now she's playing OOT. I tried to get my Mom hooked on Animal Crossing but she said it was boring and quit after 5 minutes. My dad played with my on my N64 awhile back, but i don't live with him so i don't play with him often. My grandparents say there's something wrong with me for playing games for hours straight.....

My dad and I always play First Person Shooters. Lately we’ve been playing TimeSpitters 2. Prior to that we played 007: Agent Under Fire and prior to that we played GoldenEye on N64. Also my dad watches me play. He seemed very interested in Metroid Prime. As for my mom she’s promised me that when she has time she’ll play.

My brother would play games with me all the time. We always played fighters and first person shooters. Now he has his own home, and is going to college far away from here. The last game we ever played Mortal Kombat.

My dad will play a few times a year. So far on cube all we have played is Need for Speed

My mom plays once every couple years. Last game was Goldeneye

and my Sister never plays

First off I would like to say i am pleasantly surprised at how many girls are playing games in your guy's homes especially the younger ones!

Secondly hooray for all the zelda goers!

Third my dads played wave race and thats about it, my 23 year old sister only plays house of the dead on my Dreamcast, and my 16yr sister played a lot of games such as Battle Toads Double Dragon on Snes, and a bunch of Perfect Dark, and Wave race on Cube.  Two of my cousins were real hardcore gamers they even imported stuff like the Snes disk thing and a bunch of Dreamcast stuff and we had some hard fought Street fighter matchs back in the Snes days.

But MAN Resemvla_Syria u have one hell of a family!  I bet u guys settle disputes by playing video games,

My younger brother (i am 19) plays, but only Xbox.  I play PC, GC, and Xbox., oh and most of all GBA.

My dad who died several years ago used to play some games.  His all time favorite, Virtua Cop on the Saturn.... God bless it.  He used to hit the targets with lightening speed, it was crazy.

My girlfriend's family doesn't even have two phone lines or even a cordless phone, I bought them one, now they call it the "WalkAround".  Also i Brought them Animal Crossing.  All 4 members of that house play CONSTANTLY.  Everytime i go over someone is playing.  My Girlfriend has been playing almost everyday since it came out.  I try to get them to try more games, but they only want animal crossing.

Hahaha.  My parents wouldn't touch a video game system in thier life unless its to throw it away.  (*cries* my poor SNES back in the day  =P).  My brother isn't much of a gamerif he does play at all.    Most of my friends aren't as much of a gamer as me either, and what gamer friends I have are PC gamers.   Sucks for me!

I play as much as possible, when I'm not busy.  My brother(18) only plays if there is a game that tickles his fancy.  Other than that He wont play much.  GTA VC was the last one that got him, he wouldnt stop playing it, before that it was ATV offroad fury 2 (he only has a PS2)   I have all 3 in my room.

My mom hasnt played a game since the NES.  and then she only gave it a slight try, she said it was when her 5 year old son takes the controller away and says "no mom, like this" that she didnt want any part of it.

My dad liked the original Mario bros game.  But he hasnt played anything since then except the time I got him to play madden 94 on the genesis.

My one sister (22) will play only if it is a game she like, she really like super monkey ball 2, and mario party 4.  She also really likes resident evil, and silent hill.

My other sister (22)  doesnt play games. She may give a game a try but then wants nothing to do with it.

I didnt actually get my parents, uncles, aunts, and even grandparents to play Gran Turismo 3 with the GT Force steering wheel and they all had a blast.  They really enjoyed it.  I was amazed how much my grandpa liked it.

My mother and father play on occassion, but not near as much as they used to.  My sister (13) hasn't played in a while, but it's mainly due to my lack of multiplayer games.  Super Smash Bros has lost her interest.

As for outer family, my cousins recently got a Gamecube after seeing mine, and they and their Dad seem to play fairly often.  I'm not sure about my aunt, though.  My dad's side doesn't seem at all game oriented except one cousin that has at least a PS2, maybe more.

My grandmother despises them.  Actively.  She'll beat me to get off of it, and I don't even play that often.

I'm 30 and have a 3 year old boy and 6 year old girl.  We play all the time.  My kids really like SSB and Mario Sunshine.  I got the freebie Zelda disc and they are loving that too.  I sit and play with them and help them when they get stuck.  The day they are consitently beating me is the day I hang it up!  :-)

My wife (also 30) doesn't play at all.  The only game she has played was Super Monkey Ball (a rental) and she loved that.  I need to buy a copy.

When my dad comes over and we've play NBA Street a few times.  He's an old jock and still loves to play sports, so he likes the sports games--especially the ones like NBA Street that are easy to pick up.  The more intricate games like NCAA football are too much work for him. :-)  He used to kick my butt on some Intellivision games back in the day.  He could always beat me at Pitfall, Donkey Kong, Bowling, and Golf.  The Intellivision was the last game system he really played with me to any extent.

My oldest brother (19, has a PS2, for college) only plays sports games.
My second older brother (16,has a PS2) plays mostly RPGs and Wrestling, and loved the NES but thinks that everything after that Nintendo sucks.
My younger brother (11,has a DC) plays all kinds of games, mostly sports and platformers .
My mom doesn't touch anything unless its Super Mario Bros. on NES, and not even the all-stars version, she says there's to many colors.
As for my dad, basically anything racing, mostly Nascar.
Cousins.... only my younger ones (9 and 11) really play games but all they have is Spiderman and Kingdom Hearts.
And as for Grandparents (71, 76, 81, 83), well they loved Gameboy Camera, and besides that, nothing.

As for ME (15) theres Gamecube, N64, SNES and Gameboy Advance with about 50 games in all. PLAY ALL THE TIME.

And my older brothers had an NES and Genesis (both broke, so sad) when they were younger.

There is generally only two serious game players in my house: myself and my 16 year old brother.  I'm the one who keeps up with videogame news and checks out reviews and stuff but he (having more free time) definitely plays more.  His favourite game series is easily Pokemon as he has spend countless hours in his room alone playing and has nearly caught them all (he's waiting for me to trade some with him but I don't play Pokemon enough to be a good trading partner).  He generally likes the same games I do except he hates first person shooters (which I don't love but enjoy playing multiplayer).

My other brother is 18 and used to be a pretty big game fan during the SNES days but lost interest once 3D became the standard.  He still occasionally plays some of his favourites like Contra 3 from time to time.  He pretty much exclusively plays multiplayer games with the exception of Yoshi's Island and he hates games that require thinking and puzzle solving.  It has to be all action, all the time for him.  The only 3D game he ever really plays in Conker's Bad Fur Day multiplayer.  He LOVES that and plays it with my other brother all the time.

My parents are geezers and therefore don't play games.  My dad's the type of guy who will walk in front of the screen on purpose to be a jerk and say "This is so stupid.  Why does my honours student son waste his time with this crap?" (he does the same thing with wrestling).  My mom generally hates videogames but she has sort of a "fun is evil" complex so it's pretty understandable.  My parents have yet to grasp the concept that some games have saves, some games don't, and some only let you save at certain times.  And the dishes don't have to be washed when I'm in the middle of a boss battle.  Five f*cking minutes doesn't make a difference.

Of course my parents have yet to grasp the concept that TV shows are shown in half hour intervals and therefore getting upset when a TV show isn't over at 7:43 is pretty stupid.  They're kind of a lost cause when it comes to anything they're not interested in.

I think its impossible to fascinate your parents for videogaming unless theyre very young or grew up with it.
My mom tolerates my videogaming but always rambles on and on about cultural values and how the media explodes and
soon real human values count.....stuff.

My dad used to play Tetris and Quix (old Gameboy games) for ages, primarily when taking a dump, but those times are over.
Ive been a dedicated videogamer since the N64 days, so was my younger brother but know hes more into PC gaming. My bigger brother loved PD and ISS98 on the 64,  my sisters liked Mario, and DK racing.

So far im pretty much the only on playing my GCN, (except for a few occasional rounds of SSBM and TS2) but once Mario Kart, Mario 128,
Starfox come its over.

This has to be the most enjoyable thread I've ever read at a bbs.

I'm pretty much the only gamer left in the family. My bro used to play, but he got addicted to mudd for a few years, and now only plays pc games. mostly rts games. I prefer turn-based over real-time strategy games. Advance Wars ruled! My dad used to play tetris with us back in the day of the nes. We had one of those 76-in-1 pirate carts from Hong Kong. I also love action games like Metal Slug. None of my friends or family like these types of games because of the intensity of the action (dozens of bullets per second = hard to dodge = frequent and frustrating deaths).  I used to like puzzle games; my favorite was puyo puyo/kirby's avalanche. I didn't play puzzle fighter much so I don't know if that was any good, but it sounds similar to puyo puyo. After so many years, platformers are just not as fun as they used to be.

I think it's important that parents at least see the games that their kids are playing. Even though I'm not convinced video games can be harmful, thinking that 12 and 13 yr old kids are playing games like Grand Theft Auto is kinda disturbing to me.
