The Wizard DVD Release Set for Aug 29
« on: May 23, 2006, 02:51:35 PM »
I could make a powerglove joke, but I have more respect for you than that.

Old school Nintendo fans will be happy to hear that Universal is finally releasing the gamer classic The Wizard on DVD in America on August 29th.

For those of you not in the know, The Wizard is a 1989 take-off on The Who's Tommy that followed a pair of brothers (one played by The Wonder Years' Fred Savage) on a journey to California to the Nintendo World Championships. Along the way, they meet a girl (played by a very young Jenny Lewis, now singer for indie-rock band Rilo Kiley) and get into some trouble with a kid named Lucas who is way too into his Powerglove. In the end, it turns out the whole movie is a commercial for Super Mario Bros. 3, but you won't really care.

w00t!  The movie wasn't that great, but the scenery of the 80'ish-ness of it all is well worth the price of admission.

Pale is made of oldsauce. KnowsNothing was born on the One Year Anniversary of my birthday.

I have also not seen the movie, actually. Perhaps one day...

How the hell did Jenny know what a Warp Whistle was?

So full of plot holes...

Oh, and on a related note, George Lucas got a hold of the final print and now the scenes of Super Mario Bros. 3 have been replaced with the "All-Stars" version...

I may pick up the DVD just cause I'm that much of a Nintendo Fanboy.

This movie is a cool babysitting tool for raising new Nintendo loyalists.  My nephews can't get enough of it.

I kicked ass in Ninja Gaiden back in the day...I think I would've made the finals...

WOOHOO! I love the Wizard! Time to toss the DIVX copy and pick up the DVD. It will go right next to my Mario Bros. DVD. Man I'm getting old, I remember when this movie was in the theatres and my mom took me to see it because I was so obsessed with the NES at freaking 4. Nintendo fanboy 4 life.

BTW Pale, I was just checking out your website and it turns out I actually go to the same school as you(RIT) and live like 2 doors down on the Golden Rod. Man its a small world.

I wanted to see this movie, but no one wanted to see it with me when it was in theaters.
