Pre-orders Closing in on OOT
« on: March 01, 2003, 07:50:07 AM »
While I was in the bookstore the other day i picked up the Guiness Book of Records. The most preorders for any video game were 325,000 for Zelda: Ocarina of Time. Well,It was like Feb 16th when Nintendo said they had 250,000, right? At that rate, I think it's possible Zelda could break its own record! Whadyall think?

I think they tww has definately already surpased oot in pre-orders considering the 250,00 was befor the bonus disk offer and that all of the bonus disks are just about out. tww will probably end up between 600,00 and 750,00 pre-orders if not more.
Months that end in feb
-What is febtober.
No!
-What is febterday
And the show has reached a new low.

I wouldn't say the 250,000 were before the bonus disk offer. The 250,000 were a result of the bonus disk offer. I pre-ordered back in December just for the bonus disk, and I'm sure a lot of the preorders were made early as insurance for the bonus disk.

However, I'm not saying it won't break that record. I'm pretty confident it will. I don't know how close it'll be, but 400,000 or 500,000 is not out of the question. I think it can definitely do that.

It has a good chance of breaking that number.

So...WW breaks the pre-order record with 560,000 (and counting) toppling even GTA:VC.

Who called it? I believe the Caucasian Cubist called it!

Thats a common misconception.  The retail chains ordered 4 million copies to meet the potential demand.  But only 400,000 or so were pre-ordered by  the customers.

I'm so confused by this whole situation.  I thought the 560,000 preorders were only for EB games because that is who made the comment of the most pre-ordered game of all time.  But, I guess I can now go around saying Wind Waker is the most preordered game in history.  But I will have nothing to back it up because, for some reason, major sites are not reporting this.

You don't consider PGC a major site? There is an official press release, and it is also mentioned on another major site, IGN.

Even if PGC wasn't a major site (their server size problems alone should discount that), they don't BS people- they check their sources and make sure it's true, which it IS.

Ok, check gamers.com, IGN, this site, official Nintendo press release, or anywhere. Wind Waker has 560,000 preorders, more than either Ocarina of Time (current guiness book record holder, 325,000) or Vice City (not in Guiness book yet, about 400,000). Now if that is just from EB, than HOLY CRAP! But I think it's just the total ammount. Either way Zelda is now the new record holder...oh well Vice City won't make it into the Guiness book...And zelda will be there for the 6th year straight...

Yesss!!!! pre-orders keep getting better. Now the number is at 600,000 and still climbing! But there are only 5 days left...which is a good thing.
