Falafel Kid already said that this game was coming to Wii. He also sincerely apologized for it not being announced, but said that he heard from a "very high-up" executive that it will in fact be coming. He's put his reputation on (just like NGC did with the whole TP fiasco).

It was bound to happen, it's one of the first things people started talking about when the new control scheme was shown.

Just the thought of how cool it is to have that speaker on the controller is when you consider something like a lightsaber game...   "Wow" is the first word to come to mind.

Getting to wield a virtual light saber complete with sound effects will make the Wii a must-have for every Star Wars geek on Earth.

Does anyone know if the speaker is able to provide sound in addition to the TV? For example in the lightsaber game, can you hear your lightsaber in the speaker yet have other sounds going on (like the opponents lightsaber) through your TV?

Yes.

And in example, TP does that with the bow... it goes Wiimote, Wiimote + TV, TV

Ah ok, I didn't think of that example. That definately opens up new immersion possibilities if it is a decent speaker!

I'm assuming the speaker is going to be of average quality... close to the DS speakers.  I just hope they use a digital volume adjustment ala the Gameboy Micro.  I don't like the sliders, their often too easy to accidently hit, especially on the DS, and they are very hard to set at a low volume.

The lightsaber sound effect when it gets turned on would be cool if it were in the Wii-mote.  I used to make the sound a lot when I would pretend to be in a lightsaber duel as a kid.

I hope its a real time control of the lightsaber, and not like Red Steel, i.e. pre-set movements as a control scheme.

Yeah, I keep hearing that it is like a DS speaker to. Star Wars Episode 3 for DS has no problem with the Lightsaber sound either. Heck, SNES had no problem with the Lightsaber sound! This raises a good point hough; how is the speaker volume going to be adjusted? Is it just going to have one setting? Adding anything more to the Wiimote might complicate it more than Nintendo would want and, as mentioned above, it would more than likely get in the way. Perhaps there could be an option for it in the Wii's system steup? You know, date, time, etc.
Do, or do not. There is no try.

W3RD. In fact, upon hearing this, my wanting for this game tanked. The main thing drawing me to it was the idea of swinging a sword  in duels. If this is actually the way they are going to have the game control for sword fights, count me out.

the 2 buttons besides the Home button are labeled + and -, one would presume those are for the speaker....

and a lightsaber FPS or even Jedi Knight type game would rock, seriously ^^

A lightsaber game would be awesome to the max. Don't know if that Iwata quote is good or bad though... if one was already in the works, would he say that?

But then, how do you pause?

I would guess the home button would pause the action and possibly give you the option to return to title, dashboard or quit.

What about in-game item selection and such?

They could put ingame item selection and the like on any button they want, like how the map in Metroid paused the game but wasn't the start button.  The home button could always function like a regular start button though (they usually give you the option to quit as well as other stuff)

Fully controllable sword motion might be too much for the AI. What should it do when you're charging at it with your saber held out in front of you like a lance?

Simple, knock your lightsaber to the side.  The game would simply try to have your in-game character's arms try to get the lightsaber to the position that you're holding it in.  So even if you're just holding your lightsaber in front of you like a Lance, an enemy can simply knock your lightsaber to the side, where your in-game character will attempt to move the lightsaber back into the same position as long as an opposing lightsaber is not in the way.   So if you're just swinging your controller randomly, you'll have only a light defense against someone who uses a timed and powerful blow.

I believe it could work.

LucasArt wouldn't do canned lightsaber action.  A game like this could be exciting.  This is one of those times the Wiimote speaker sound like it would have a near perfect use.  While I'm on the speaker I'll bet a dollar that its not just like the DS speaker but is the exact same speaker as in the DSLite.  Bulk = Price Discount.  More Bulk = More Price Discount.
