What was missing from the prE-ThWii Conference...
« on: May 09, 2006, 09:11:57 AM »
Now, this is all my opinion, so don't get up in arms against me, but there's so many threads about what's great (and it was great), but there are some things that I wasn't too thrilled with..

First off, the GameCube and GBA *barely* got any mention.  In fact, I don't think the GBA was mentioned at all.

Second - two versions of Zelda?  At least, we can probably assume the Deluxe edition will contain both.  And finally our chance to get a game that people in Japan want.  But seriously, ouch.  this hurts my wallet.

Speaking of Wallet - Third.  I want a Wii... but I'm not sold on it yet.  I need the price.  Now I wasn't really expecting to see the price today, but I wanted it.  I need to know how much to save up.  Guess I can just save up $600 and if all else fails, buy a PS3. heh.

Fourth.  Smash Bros.  Yeah, I went there.

Fifth - hardly any mention of the online aspects.  Sure, it's "on all the time".  Yay.  Couldn't care much either way (until something really neat is shown with that)  Networking code in the console?  IN theory, this would make online game programming as easy as programming a second player on the NES, right?  Expand on that a little more, if you would.  Most importnatly, barely a mention on the Virtual Console.  Details pls.

Sixth.  Nintendo, you told me that I'd understand the Wii name after the E3 conference.  I'm still waiting.

Finally... ummm... wasn't there a "big" hardware secret supposed to be revealed today?  Speaker? neat.  not big.  Always on?  You've still got to convince me of that.
Did you decide not to show it for fear of Sony stealing it?  That's fine, I'm a reasonable man... just tell me that.

Oh Nintendo, you do tease.  I want a Wii, so badly, and you taunt me with such glory, but rarely put out.

Aside from that, Mario vs. DK 2.  Kick ass.

Fire Emblem Wii makes up for any "shortcomings" you might list.

I'm Paladin on this.  I think him and I are the only people who loved that game on this board.  Paladin, are you as pretty in real life as you are in your avatar?

My mind is still buzzing from METROID PRIME CORRUPTION!!one111. Will the Galactic Federation have corrupt people on the inside working against them while phazon corrupts the headquarters from the outside and Samus has to save them all the while fighting off the space pirate invasion and trying to reach a new suit that the Federation just discovered the Chozo built in their dying efforts? WILL IT?! IS THAT WHAT THE GAME IS? TELL ME, DAMN YOU!

Are you nuts? Fire Emblen on GBA still deserved game of the year the year it was released (And should have been rated T or M....seriously. E my ass) When Fire Emblem was shown to eb coming to Cube I had a compelte spasm, nearly went insane, and highly considered the rape of a small goat in celebration.

For me there is Fire Emblem Wii....and everything else. If something was missing from the conference it WAS MY FREAKING GOLDEN SUN! Where's the love Camelot?! DS or Wii, don't care which one just give it to me!

The only abscense that really dissapointed me was the lack of a new Miyamoto IP.

Galaxy made up for that, though.

...replaced with Mario Golf Wii.
I think/hope it's still in development, but RPGs often take longer to launch than other types of games because people expect deeper plots and 50-100 hours of gameplay.  I bet it will show up at next E3.
That's my opinion, not yours.

And just to show that I'm not completly negative... Here's a post-conference update on my whining.

Quote

First off, the GameCube and GBA *barely* got any mention. In fact, I don't think the GBA was mentioned at all.

Well, the GBA is still pretty unloved, but damn.  New DK Bongo game and Super Paper Mario?  Hellz yeah.

Second - two versions of Zelda? At least, we can probably assume the Deluxe edition will contain both. And finally our chance to get a game that people in Japan want. But seriously, ouch. this hurts my wallet.

Still not thrilled here.

Still kinda sad here, but then, again, I wasn't really expecting to hear this at E3.

Quote

Fourth. Smash Bros. Yeah, I went there.

Hellz Yeah.  I knew they wouldn't let me down.  Though they still should have ended the conference with a SSBB video.  The crowd would have just went themselves right there.  That's right, everyone at the conference would have been floating in their own urine.  And you would have deserved it too, since I didn't get to go.

Still not a lot on the online end, but seeing the Classic Controller is nice.  The interface for the VC looks kinda sweet, but wern't we supposed to hear about more players (meaning aside from Genesis and TG-16) that were onboard during E3?

Still waiting.

Err... still waiting.  Although, as I was telling people about the speaker, I did kinda get excited about it.

I was kind of disappointed that no game from Rockstar was announced.  We heard they had the dev kits, so just what the F are they working on?
