What will likely happen at E3
« on: May 02, 2006, 08:51:02 AM »
I was thinking about this last night and summed up in my head what will Nintendo do at their pre-E3 press release. Some are bound to happen, others are elements of wishful thinking from me or anyone else.

Let's get this over with...

Nintendo will fully show off the Wii: UH.....DUUUUUUUUUUUUUH!

Seriously now, Nintendo's main focus will be the Wii, it's games and the controller.

However, I think we might get more info on:
- Their online service
- Their downloadable game service
- Third developer support
- Marketing strategy
- Expected sales

Nintendo will show off an updated Twilight Princess: It hasn't been shown since last year's E3 and I'm sure it must've been updated by now.

In fact, don't be surprised if they use TP as another game to show off the Wii controller (unless the Wii features are so small (...) it isn't worth mentioning at the conference)

Further plans for the Nintendo DS: Completely expected. This is where they might reveal a completely new killer APP for the DS as well as announce the US launch of the DS Lite (and boast how insanely popular it is around the world).

Wishful thinking department: The Wii name will be changed: At admit at first I truly believed that thanks to the massive negative reaction the name got at first the name might get changed in order to appeal to fans. But then this might be wishful thinking at is finest...

At the very least, though, I think we will see further explanation of why the name was picked, explain to fans why the name works and tell us how they are going to market it. I REALLY hope they don't recycle the same comments from Kaplan. "We wanted to be similar to Yahoo!".

I know I am missing some stuff, you guys can add to the list of expected E3 happenings.

I don't expect Wii to be changed, but I would like to see further explanation as to why it was selected, and you're right: the same recycled BS from Kaplan is not acceptable.

Nitendo wont full unveil the console, they'll say at the end something along the lines "and the best is yet to come!" to keep the hype up.

Reggie should come out wearing some kind of VR helmet/goggles...  Then, take them off and do the entire press thing.  Then, at the end be like "Oh, those?  You'll find out next year."

I expect we'll get a lot of Wii.  We will bathe in Wii (I'm done).

I really want to see launch line-up, and if we don't get at least a preliminary launch list, they failed E3.  We'll probably get a "price is still being considered, but right now it should be around __________."  Same for the launch window.

You know, besides all the Wii stuff, Capcom porting over more Phoenix Wright games would be awesome.  I'm silently (well actually loudly) hoping they announce that.

HEAR ME CAPCOM?!

I don't expect it, but it would be great news.

True, Nintendo does love to keep things hidden from us...

But what I mean is that this time they will fully unveil the Nintendo Wii with ACTUAL game footage, demos of how the controller works, strategy ideas, developers and launch. They NEED to get info out BADLY. Being ambigious (sp?) about it will not help them, AT ALL. They NEED to tell the world about the Wii. With a strange concept at is it, they owe us a full presentation...

Game footage is ABSOLUTELY NECESSARY. It's time to lay the cards on the table already. Ideally, game demos are a must as well.

And a Phoenix Wright sequel on the Rev would equate pants creaming time.

I don't think I've ever seen an E3 press conference where Nintendo actually showed off what we were all really looking forward to.  Usually there's some vaguely hinted product we're all excited about that we don't get to see.  We all know it exists but for some reason we have to wait.  And then by the time next year rolls around that product is old news and there's some NEW thing we know exists but aren't being shown.  Or we're shown just a taste, like the Zelda trailer, and then nothing else.

This lack of information is usually accompanied by Nintendo spending a considerably long amount of time showing off something that no one cares about like Pac-Man Vs.  "If you liked those two seconds of Zelda footage you'll LOVE this next half hour dedicated to the Gameboy Micro!"

I read somewhere that Capcom MIGHT port the second PW game to the DS and add an exclusive case.

This is still speculation, of course, but due to the STRONG reception to the game, it will be stupid of them not to reward gamers with a second game.

And Ian, I KNOW that Nintendo has the tendency to keep things in the air. But in the least, I am hoping for Nintendo to demo at least 2 games with vastly different controller schemes (Metroid Prime 3 and Smash Brothers could be), maybe one demo of one of Nintendo's new franchises, a trailer for all their Wii games and then Zelda.

They HAVE to. If they just do a lame presentation with comments "Wait and see!" I will be even more dissapointed at them more than the new name. We have been waiting nearly two years to see what the Revolution is all about, and we have waited ENOUGH. This is the time for a full explanation.

I agree.

Even Nintendo isn't so dense that they wouldn't realize they need to STORM this year's E3 with assloads of information.

It's now or never.

Yeah. An overly pompous sounding guy I heard on a Podcast said it the best; this is Nintendo's E3.

Sure, people will enjoy what the XBOX 360 and PS3 are going to offer, but the Wii is something new that people have been DYING to try out. The excitement over this is huge. Even with the silly name people still want to know what the fuss is about.

Like I said, it will be stupid of Nintendo to leave us guessing AGAIN.

There's no more time for "wait and see".
The Wii launches in like six months or less.
I fully expect Nintendo to have at least a dozens of games on display and playable.
I also suspect that certain third-party titles from the likes of Capcom, Namco, Konami, Sega, and even Square (and EVEN Ubisoft w/Red Steel) will steal some of the spotlight from Nintendo's own Wii titles.
Once E3 has come and gone I think Nintendo fans will have a huge list of must-have games coming out this year. That's just counting Wii titles. Add in the DS which should get some amazing support from developers now that its a proven success and there will be a ton of homeless Nintendo fans by year's end.

Nintendo, oh Nintendo, where art thou?

My guess is they show exactly what the NRC can do, and how it will translate into games.

At the press conference, Nintendo will show a bunch of different games from different genres. Some of them are 1st party, while the others are 2nd and 3rd.

They basically go down the line hitting every major genre out there, while simultaneously announcing games.

For instance, they want to explain how the NRC will improve gaming in the RPG genre. They use Camelot's RPG to show how revolutionary the controller is.

Sports - Madden
FPS - Red Steel
RPG - Camelot
Survival Horror - Resident Evil
FPA - Metriod Prime
Fighting - SSB
New genre - New IP

And so on and so forth...

Playable Smash Brothers, Madden, Pikmin, Metroid and Mario. Show two new IPs.  Nintendo wins, hands down!

Ideally, they should do that. I mean, the controller can easily do wonder for all the genres.

However, due to limited time, I think they will show off the games that will get people interested in. Then let the attendees play the other games at the booth.

I really think Metroid Prime 3 and Smash Brothers are going to be the games they will show off first.

Oh I'm certain Nintendo will reveal Rev games.  The launch lineup for example will be shown for sure.  But there'll be something else in the background.  We'll see like 2 seconds of it in a montage of clips.  Yet it will be the coolest thing at the show and we'll all wish that Nintendo had revealed more about it.  Either that or some major franchise like Mario or Metroid, that we're all assuming will be available at launch, won't be so we'll have to wait for more info.

True, but nothing gets me away from forums like another game to play.

What's out for the DS in the coming months?

Only if Nintendo lets them. They've got a stranglehold on all Wii demos being shown (as in, they will all be at their booth) last I heard.
