Wiill it be cheap?
« on: April 29, 2006, 02:18:02 PM »
I've seen screens for Red Steal, and honestly it wasnt much better than an xbox game. So the question is..how much is this going to cost. My bet is if their not going to be doushebags, then 129 just like DS.

You really do live in another world...

$199 I'd say, like every console they've ever released.

graphics aren't everything, it's obvious the R&D of the Revmote.....eh, Wiimote, was expensive (and we're talking abot Nintendo, thus they are planning to get some profit) so I'm kind of betting that its price will be like $199

(Besides, it will work against them to place it on the price range of the DS....)

ThePerm, you gotta factor in the controller costs as well. I'd say $199 or just barely under it.

They're not gonna break with $199 launch tradition. If they're douches, they might go up to $249, figuring that they'll still be $150 less than competition but I doubt it.

Price drop to $149 shortly after E3 2007.

If a $249 package includes the following, I won't complain one bit.

-Console w/cables and sensor bar.
-Two remote controllers.
-One nunchaku add-on.
-One shell add-on.
-Demo Disc (not games, just mini-game stuff that you can ease into the concept with).

I'd pick that up in a second.

As someone else said: Research and Development.  It might not cost much more to produce a unit with the tech, much more than a analog stick though, but Nintendo likely sunk a huge amount of money into testing the technology and perfecting it for the console.

If I remember right N64 launched for $249.99, or at least thats what it was being sold for at the stores around here.

I'm pretty sure Wii will be no more than $249.99 and no less than $199.99. Either price I'm willing to pay cause either way its still cheaper than the competition.

Yes, the system was going to launch for $250 in the US, but NOA got it down to the $200 range due to perceiving the PS1 as a possible threat (and how right they were...)

I really doubt it'll come with 2 wiimotes, however, that would contradict their whole little "Wii" philosophy, so who knows?  199 sounds about right, tho.

$199 with two wiimotes, but only 1 shell and 1 nunchuck might be acceptable...  seems like the ii nature of the system necessitates the 2 'motes.

$249 almost needs a game, IMO...

I say 2 Wiimotes, 2 nunchuks, the system, a free Download(or predownloaded game, maybe SMB:3 or World) a demo disc and maybe a shell or two and I'd gladly drop $250 for it.

For $199 I'd want 2 nunchuks and two Wiimotes with the system.

$199 with one wiimote and one nunchaku and one shell seems fine to me.

2 wiimotes would be great, but I'm not exactly expecting it.

Judging a system's graphical quality by screenshots is not always the best policy for best or for worse. You don't know how smooth the framerate is, nor do you know how much is going on at once. With that said I think Red Steel has promise graphically, though that is as far as I will say, we'll probaly find out at E3. I've also heard rumors from individuals here (not sure how reliable the person was though) that the final dev kits are much more powerful than the specs IGN provided.

If they only give one Wiimote then it doesn't really give that family playing together thing that they want to push.

Should be interesting to see what they do, it will have to depend on a number of factors:
1. How much will they actually charge?
2. How much cash they splurged on the graphical hardware?
3. How much the Wiimotes cost them?

If two Wiimotes are included with two nunchucks (they about have to include the nunchuck) it could easily push the system to 250-300$ range. That is not taking into account the all but forgotten "traditional" shell being included it (is it just me or has the fuss over including one died down alot?)

Yes and that's because people are starting to realize its not needed as much.

Also considering the rumors of how cheap the Wii system is to make, I think they could keep it under $250 with two Wiimotes

I'm hoping it comes with 2 controllers but I wouldn't count on it.  My thing is, if games are requiring the nunchaku, why would they package a controller without one?  It would be suicide to tell people you HAVE to buy this accessory if you want to play half the games.

I really don't think we should judge the Wii's graphical power by some screenshots of a single game, of which we have no clue how far into the development cycle it is. Gamecube games really didn't look that bad(RE4), and if the Wii is 2x as powerful or a bit more, these games should look fantastic. Just because the Xbox 360 and the PS3 have a ton of horsepower, doesn't mean the games will look that great. Alot of processing power is often wasted on features that aren't easily seen by the human eye. By cutting these out and taking other shortcuts Wii games have potential to look just about as good. Plus, it isn't about the graphics it's all about the gameplay. Star Fox 64 looks like ass but I'd take that anyday over Star Fox: Assault.

I say Nintendo charges $199 for the Wii and hooks us up with all the attachments and an extra Wii-mote. Quite frankly it could cost $400 and I'd still buy one.

There's no way they'll ship two controllers but only one nunchuk.  It looks like they plan on that being a standard so it has to come with every controller.

I would prefer if the console was barebones and cheap.  I dont want to pay extra for two controllers.  Just give me one and let me decide if I want to buy another one.  And if the hardware is as weak as we all think it is then the price should reflect it.  I don't want Nintendo to compromise our gaming experience so they can make more profit on the hardware.  If the hardware was gutted to get the price down then Nintendo should be breaking even on the console, not profiting off of it.

I'm more curious about the controller price.  If it costs some serious change to get extra controllers then four player games are going to be rare.

Wasn't GameCube initially sold at a small profit? I see not reason to not expect the same for the Wii.

Controller prices could definitely be a problem. Personally, I like to own 4 controllers. (I bought 4 at launch for GCN.) At launch, GCN's wired controllers were $35 (dropped to $25 when the Wavebird took over the $35 price point). The Wii's controllers are much more complex and have an unknown number of attachments included (at least the nunchuk, probably the shell, maybe more we don't know about). I would not be completely surprised to see $40-$45 controllers, but that is approaching the price of a game. Hopefully, Nintendo will manage a $35 or lower controller price (especially if they want to encourage multiplayer), but I'm not counting on it.
