The real name for Nintendo's next console is...The new name for the console previously known as Revolution is "Wii". Pronounced "we", the name was chosen for being easily memorised, pronounceable by people all around the world, and not needing abbreviation.
According to Game Informer's interview with Matt Atwood, Public Relations Manager for Nintendo of America (NOA), the name was chosen by a committee which included employees of both NOA and Nintendo Co. Ltd. in Japan. Atwood also reiterates that the system will be launching in the fourth quarter of this year: "The system comes at the end of 2006 and we’re pretty confident and comfortable."

While the code-name “Revolution" expressed our direction, Wii represents the answer.
Wii will break down that wall that separates video game players from everybody else.
