Heya everyone!

If you want one, get in now!  Troz has the first batch of 18 cables finished (well, it was 20, but I got the first two!).  The cables are $17.50 each (shipping is included in that cost) - and they're well worth the price if you want to link your GBA to your GCN.

If you're interested in purchasing a cable, check out the original thread on CAG - Troz is taking orders for this first batch via CAG's PM system.  If you're not a member of CAG... well, you should be.  Great place that ends up making me spend tons more money that it helps me save...

Anywhoo, if you're not a member of CAG, then you can PM me with your interest and I'll PM you back with Troz's e-mail address.

Please note that I'm not personally selling these cables - merely linking to the offer (much as I would if I found a good deal on EBGames.com or something).  So, basically, neither I nor PlanetGameCube.com are to be held responsible if something goes awry - although I can't imangine what that would be.

Original message below:

Well, as anyone with a Game Boy micro probably knows, there is no official (or even unofficial that I've been able to find) GameCube-Game Boy micro Link Cable.  Period.

Except...  for this one.

Now this has been tested and, from what I hear, works great!  The only bad part is that I don't have one (and I'm far too untalented to make one myself).

Anywhoo, the great individual who made the initial batch and I have been in talks, mostly me trying to get him to make some more (and, apparently, there's been quite a few others who have expressed interest in getting one).  The bottle neck, however, is getting ahold of the official Game Boy micro Link Cables.  Nintendo will only allow any one address to order five at a time...  (to prevent dealers/resellers).

Anywhoo, beyond that, we're looking at a couple of different options to get him the materials to make some more of these... But I wanted to ask, is there any interest *at all* from anyone here for one of these?

Yes I would, but not for $25.

Also, you botched that link pretty bad.

I want one... I can't believe how stupid Nintendo is.. they sell the converter, but it is female GB Micro on one end and male GBA on the other end....  If they just made the thing go from male GB Micro to femail GBA, it could be used to convert any of the GBA cables....

I can't get over how stupid it is...

Seems rather fitting from the company that sold the GBA/GC cables seperately and then made all of their connectivity games multiplayer focused and then stood scratching their heads as the concept totally bombed.  While it's easy to find people with GBAs what you really need to find is people with the cables which would have been everyone if it came with the damn GBA, but ended up being no one because no GBA owner who doesn't own a Cube would ever buy one.

This is also the company that released a wireless adapter for the GBA but then made it so games had to be specifically programmed to use it thus making it arguably the most useless accessory in the entire universe.  As dumb as their converter goof up is it is not surprising at all.

Well, I'm glad to know there's some interest in it.  We're trying to see what we can arrange to secure some larger quantites of the required components.

In fact, Troz just sent me a message saying he managed to use a Pelican all-in-one link (http://www.gamestop.com/product.asp?product%5Fid=801607 - not gonna mess up the link this time) where he just replaced the regular GBA end with a GBm end - so you can hook it to your GameCube *or* use it to link to a regular GBA/SP/GameBoy Player.

I'll keep y'all updated.

Well, no promises, but it looks like we're on to something excellent.  Like, spectacular.  And much cheaper - although the cable itself maay possibly not look quite as pretty.  Again, I'll keep ya updated.

Okay, here's a quick update.  Troz over at CAG has pretty much gotten it worked out where he's going to have 18 cables soon (would have been 20, but I've spoken for two myself - sorry guys!) for a mere $17.50 each.

We tried really, really, really hard to get the cost down as cheap as possible...  First, I'd found some really cheap GBA-GCN cable - but, unfortunatly, the only way to modify them required a mutilation of the plastic casing that held the cable's board.  So then Troz had to order some plastic cases to re-enclose the main board.  Then, the generic GBm cables we tracked down for cheap simply wouldn't work - the cables don't have a board in 'em, so they don't have wires running to power the board as the official Nintendo branded cables do - which - in the end - stuck Troz with having to order official Nintendo cables.  And Nintendo is dead set on not letting the same Mailing/Billing address order any more than 5 cables at a time - meaning the shipping cost on these went up (not to mention that the first cables we had hoped to be able to use had four plugs for under $4 vs. 2 plugs for $10).

On the bright side, $17.50 is still $7.50 less than the cost of the first set of cables and only a few bucks more than a regular GBA/GCN cable.

Anywhoo, I'll post to let y'all know when Troz is ready to take orders.  He's shipping my pair out this week (from the first batch of five he's put together), so I'll let you know how well they work and all (although he's tested 'em and such).  Hopefully, he'll get me a picture of the finished product instead of having to wait until I get one to take it for y'all.

Do note that these particular cables are *not* the one shown in the first post of this thread, nor the one I spoke about a few posts up that would let you connect your Game Boy micro to either a GCN or another Game Boy Advance/SP/Player unit - these new cables will simply be a Game Boy micro -to- GameCube controller port cable for connectivity titles.

Well, i'm still very interested. I very much *DO* want a GCN to Micro connector cable. And pretty much regardless of price unless its cost like $50.... even then I might consider. Keep me informed, please.

I am also interested, but Bob, keep the selling in PMs or other forms of communication besides this.  We are flirting with the rules here...

As long as it's a good cable that won't fall apart/screw with Animal Crossing, I'm in.  Will the first person to get it please test it with AC?

Also, is there any possible way to convert the useless GBM wireless link to wirelessly link to the Cube?  Long live dead connectivity promises.

'eh, not to worry, I won't be selling them at all - when Troz gets 'em ready, I'll simply be posting an updated message with another link to his post on CAG - unless that is an issue, mind you.

BTW, here's a pic of the newer version of the cable, for those interested.  My two cables were shipped out today, so, hopefully, I'll have 'em by early next week and I'll be able to test one out with FF:CC, Four Swords Adventures, Pac-Man vs., and, by request, Animal Crossing... I'll probably check out Wind Waker's Tingle Tuner as well.

Yay!  A bit of an update - I got my two cables today - tested them on all of the above and they worked perfect.

Garnee - I tested the cable with Animal Crossing (GCN) both using the e-Reader at the eTM to scan in a card and for Animal Island - no issues.  I didn't think to test it with at the Able Sisters, but I don't see why it wouldn't work.

There is a minor down side to this cable...  It's not an issue to me, but to some it may be.  The box in the middle of the cable is somewhat large - it's about 1/3rd of the size of the micro.  It's not heavy at all and doesn't weigh down the cable in any way - but some people may not be fans of it.

Seeing as Nintendo isn't interested in manufacturing and supplying a "correct" converter connector or a GCN->Micro connector cable at all, I really don't think anyone is going to complain.

'eh, I just wanted to mention it in the interest of full disclosure - I don't want it to appear that I'm pushing these things as the greatest thing on earth or anything.

For anyone else who wants to know, I'm not making *any* money off these, nor do I know Troz outside of CAG (nor did I know him before I got my micro and wanted a micro/GCN cable).  My interest in pushing these cables is pretty simple - I wanted a cable and, knowing there were others that did as well, I managed to arrange for Troz to get some of the supplies to make a fairly large batch of the cables (aside from those damn official Nintendo Game Boy micro cables) - basically so that I could get one.  Now, I'm not totally greedy, and I don't want Troz to get stuck with a bunch of cables - so I'm going to try to help him sell them.

Also, let it be known that I did get a bit of a discount on the two cables I purchased - in fact, Troz gave me one cable for free and I paid full price for the second (then threw in $2.50 to help pay for some of the supplies/shipping of the first cable because I kinda felt like there was no reason for Troz to give me a free cable...).

Aside from wanting to help Troz sell his supplies of cables because I talked him into loading up on 'em and knowing that there's a number of people who wanted one of these, I have no ponies in this race.

Hmm...I have a micro, but I haven't used my link-cable in forever, so not sure if I'd be needing this.

...oh, wait a minute. Including the micro, I have four GBAs ready and available (I'm a Nintendo whore.) With this link cable, I could finally start up a four player four swords game! I'll have to get one when/if another batch arrives.
