UbiSoft's has five titles for the Revolution.
« on: March 11, 2006, 04:22:04 AM »
According to The Magic Box, UbiSoft has updated its lineup, which includes five Revolution titles.

A Ninja Turtles title
Rainbow 6 5
Rayman 4
Brothers in Arms 3
Assassin

Here's the link to the Magic Box's game page.

These are titles that were already known. Wasn't there a title that was being made specifically for the Revolution? All of these are to be released this year. And this doesn't include any of the items that are not yet announced. (For next year and beyond.)

This list also seems to cement that the Revolution will not be released until November, which two of the titles are slated to be released.

It's Ubisoft, the games will be available on anything that can run games at all. But I wouldn't buy the PC version because Ubi loves to put an anticopy system on those that fails to recognize the original disc.

My take on all 5, cause no one demanded!

- Haven't all the Ninja Turtles games sucked lately?
- Rainbow 65 = too many sequels
- Rayman 4  eh, maybe a rental
- Um, yay. more WWII shooters.
- Assassin. Ooh, This could be good. But will it be more like Hitman47 or more like Triggerman?

Thing is, it doesn't matter. More support is more support. The general public loves games like this, and that's a good thing for Nintendo.

All the other Ninja Turtle game have been made by Konami, I have faith that Ubi will not create a crappy Ninja Turtle game.

One thing that is really good about this list is that it shows that the Revolution isn't going to get screwed over with Multi-console games.

Rayman is the only one on that list that I might buy. The only problem that I have with UbiSoft is if it isn't an internally developed title it will be translated and localized horribly. (Grandia 2 for the Dreamcast and Lunar: Dragon Song come to mind.)

Rainbow 6 is not a franchise they'd bother putting on a console aimed for younger audiences. The fact that it will be on the Rev means that Nintendo is beating that stigma.

I checked when those were released: R6L was in sept of '05 and the other was june of '04.

I mention release because it seems that game companies have been forgoing cube ports as of late. I'm not convinced Ubi would have brought R6 to the GC in 2006 or started development of it in 2005.

Normally I'd say all the games on that list will most likely turn out to be crappy.... But if they use the Rev remote in a good way, I might be excited and actually want to play some of the them. But this is VERY good news, the more Rev support the better.
Currently Playing: Twilight Princess(Wii), Castlevania: PoR(DS), Mario vs. Donkey Kong2(DS), Wii sports(Wii)
Anticipating: Mario Galaxy(Wii), Blue Dragon(360), Dragon Quest:Swords(Wii), Dragon Quest IX (DS)

Ubi usually adds mouse support for PC versions so rod support for Rev versions isn't to far fetched.

Rainbow Six (and in a small time frame, Ghost Recon) has been broken for the past half-decade.  All in Ubi-Soft's efforts to appeal to the masses.

Excitement, in this thread it is not.

It's nonexistant cuz it's a franchise Ubisoft can't easily rehash with more guns, more maps, online multiplayer, etc.

I think this turtles game may actualy be worth watching out for. I have high hopes since its out of the hands of... Konami was it? Not sure, but they stunk at the latest games and their cell shading for it was terrible. This TMNT title will most likely have the realistic CGI look of the upcoming movie that its based on, which is a nice change.  But most importantly there is no way they could make the game crappier than the last 2.

Pro: Nah, they already have the plans for BG&E 2 and 3 in a drawer somewhere, the terrible sales are the problem. But considering what they did with PoP I don't think we really want a sequel to BG&E.

I can safely say I would never buy any of these games.  It's better for the Rev to get these games then to get nothing instead but these are nothing significant.

Just the thought of "XTREME JADE" makes me want to wretch...

As for the TMNT game, it's a damn shame that Konami lost their touch for side-scrolling beat-em ups.

Truth is, though, as fondly as I remember the arcade games, subtract the element of quarters and there isn't much left to go on. When victory is assured because you know you have enough credits, the game rapidly loses its appeal.

We need a beat 'em up RPG, one that allows you to pick new moves to learn, rather than your existing ones simply becoming stronger.

"As for the TMNT game, it's a damn shame that Konami lost their touch for side-scrolling beat-em ups."

Everyone has lost their touch for side-scrolling beat-em ups.  I think the problem is that modern game design elements ruin the formula and developers are either too scared to leave those elements out or just don't know how to make a game without them.  Beat-em-ups needs to be short in that they can be completed in one sitting.  But in order to do this they have to be somewhat difficult so that you don't breeze through the game on your first play.  Devs don't know how to make short games like this anymore.  They make the games too easy to appeal to the mainstream and they try to add replay value by having you collect stupid crap or beat the game with each character.  There's also too much emphasis on story these days and a good beat-em=up shouldn't be cluttered with cutscenes and such.  The story should be "the gang kidnapped someone so beat the crap out of them".

Elements of a good beat-em-up:
-variety of main characters.  Each fighter should have a unique look and fighting style.  There should also be more characters than the amount of players to allow for more combinations.
-variety of moves.  No one likes sh!tty beat-em-ups where all you do is punch.  There needs to be several moves and there should be an advantage to doing certain moves at certain times.  Sometimes it's good to throw, sometimes it's good to jump attack, etc.  Moves should be really easy to pull off too.  No Street Fighter II style controls.
-variety of enemies and locations.  Beat-em-ups get really boring if you just fight the same couple of goons the whole time.  I've played game where literally there are only three enemies in the whole game.  Levels should look different too and there should always be a few g!mmick areas where you're riding a surfboard or something.  Multiple paths is cool too for replay value.
-interactivity with the environment.  These means lots of weapons to grab and the ability to pick up weapons dropped by enemies.  This means being able to jump from high places.  This means if you throw a guy into a phonebooth he smashes right through it.
-multiplayer.  Gotta have two players though four is better.  The areas should have room for four people to move around in too.  I've played beat-em-ups that are pure sidescrollers like Mario and they suck because they have no room to move around in.
-all action.  No puzzles or BS like that.  Nothing but beating the crap out of everyone.

I can think of one other problem with games today.  These days gang violence is too associated with hip-hop so there would be some sh!tty rap related stuff involved which would probably f*ck the whole game up.  The design should be like a gang from an 80s Marvel Comic.

You know, back in the days arcade ports gave you 2 credits in addition to the starting one and that's it, if you get enough points you might get another one. And I don't think everyone gives out infinite credits even today.

I meant in emulated versions of the game where you hit a button to insert a credit.

As for Ian's argument, I think a good beat 'em up should be where players need to learn to work together, be cautious and effective and survive long enough to beat the game on the few credits they give you.

Or the games need to be based on something other than your ability to endure vs. the game's ability to kill you.
