They made a speech at an event called 'The Year of Next Gen' held in Melbourne. Not too much is said about Revolution.. just this

RedTribe are working on the Revolution console and Chris provided a short summary of what is publicly known about the machine, commenting that "Nintendo doesn't want to be part of the Sony/Microsoft arms race, instead it is looking for its own niche and has a different view of how to succeed in this niche." Nintendo is focussing on innovative game play and Chris indicated the strategy is sound if the right price point for software is hit for its demographic.

I'm trying to find an exact transcript of what was said but can't find anything... regardless, this is yet another small dev with Revolution intentions, and the only other time I can think of where an aussie developer made a game for a Nintendo system is Ty the Tasmanian Tiger.

This is good. This is why the rev will succeed: devs desperatley want to make games for it. You can talk about how publishers have all the real power, but, at the end of the day, droves of creative people who are passionate about making games for this thing will ultimatley equal lots of good games.

I approve of this news! Outta nowhere developers are always a good thing. Unless they make Barbie games, then they're a GREAT thing.

Hey whats wrong with barbie games? so anyway, this news makes me happy, cuz it means the first part of nintendo's "blue ocean" strategy is working, indie developers would be the first to take big risks with the controller, and we might get some aussie barbie games, cook up some kanga, drink some fosters, and hav a good time. or maybe we'll get a star fighter that redefines the way vehicular based combat is done. either one is fine by me.

They have the most uninformative website ever. No good information on technology, games, or staff. On the other hand, I welcome all Rev devs.

Every developer helps but I'm not going to declare Nintendo's plan for attracting support a success until more developers I actually care about are on board.  So far aside from Square Enix there hasn't been much public enthusiasm from developers of significance.  There hasn't been public bashing by those third parties either but having Ubisoft, EA and the Ty guys isn't gong to make much of a difference.

Yeah, aside from the fact that Tecmo is back on board after being off for two generations and Midway, who canned all cube support, is also developing again.

Forgot about Tecmo.  Yeah they're not bad.  Midway hasn't made a decent game since they stopped making arcade games though.

What I'm wanting primarily would be Capcom, Konami and Namco.  Namco will probably be on board but the other two are iffy, especially Konami.  And even then it depends on what the support is.  A few games here or there isn't that great.  There needs to be real dedication.

And though I don't care much about them Rockstar support would be incredibly important.

I agree, but I think that developers who haven't dared to touch a Nintendo console in two generations coming back is a very, very good sign. It's like they're afraid that the Rev might succeed so they don't want to risk missing the boat when it comes to developing for it.

I think support by these companies will happen, especially Capcom and Namco. Konami is a little harder to sway, but I'd be surprised if Nintendo hasn't already approached them with ideas for using their existing franchises with the Rev controller, given how friendly they were during the development of MGS and the resulting success of Mario DDR.

Isn't Hideo Kojima making a game for the Rev? Unless it's going to be published by Nintendo or something.

I donno about Rockstar. I have a feeling they could end up being the Rare of the upcoming generation.

Quoted for truth, sadly. Midway can't even manage to PORT their good arcade games without breaking them now. And we all know the only Revolution game they'll make will be an out of place Midway Arcade Treasures. Or maybe a port of the next Mortal Kombat with Rev exclusive glitches. Which will be crap, and won't sell, so that Midway can once again blame Nintendo as they drift further down the crapper.

I'd think their arcade boxing games (with the gloves, unless that's another company) would port nicely: one Rev controller in each hand, press left and right on the d-pad to dodge (ala Punch-Out) and it'd be golden!

I agree that a licensed game 95% of the time is a bad idea.  The other 5% belongs to games like Goldeneye on the N64, which was an experiment gone right.
