i bet audio video output will  be the  same as super  nintendo/n64/ and gamecube...and that  is the only reason  their  not going hd  is because they want to  keep using the  same  port.

edit: i just checked it and its different!!

All the versions of the Rev hardware Nintendo has been showing to the media have had the GameCube's Digital Out port on the back, and only the Digital Out port, and were likely meant to be hooked up with GameCube Component Cables and run in Progressive Scan (although I don't know if anyone's ever seen a Rev actually running anything). Which is odd because Nintendo keeps telling us that graphics don't matter, and that GameCube owners didn't want Progressive Scan, and that Rev owners don't want HD. Plus it doesn't explain where the sound would be coming from.

The port shown here isn't the Digital Out port (which has the top two corners cut off, not the right two). Nor is it the classic Multi Out port from the SNES/N64/GameCube (which has all four corners cut off, and a tab on the top). Nor is it the Famicom Disc System's RAM expansion pak's cable.

It was rumored back when Nintendo slashed the Digital Port from the Cube that Nintendo had figured out a way to deliver Progressive Scan through the Multi Out port (with a new Component Cable), so perhaps that's what this is, but then why would they lock out the traditional A/V and S-video cables? If they carved a notch in the top of this port, then it could fit the old cables, and you'd still be unable to fit the new Progressive Scan cable into an old unit.

I thought Nintendo already confirmed the Rev has progressive scan? and they've never said that GC owners didnt want it, if you are one of the late-comers (and shame on you for getting the console so late) you can easily ask Nintendo to change your unit for an old one with both ports.

My Cube has a Digital Out port. How else would I have described what one looked like?

And yes, if you really wanted Progressive Scan on your Cube, there wasn't a lot stopping you. But Nintendo seemed to be constantly trying to present this image that the GameCube was unsuitable for higher-end entertainment centers (see the lack of DVD and Dolby Digital support), they made you jump through hoops to get the component cable, and then (while cutting the rarely-used port) they flat out told us that more than 99% of GameCube owners didn't want Progressive Scan.

The idea of the Rev supporting Progressive Scan, and only Progressive Scan (as in, no S-video or A/V cables or R/F switches) is amusing because of that previous stance. Of course it's obvious that those Rev prototypes were ProScan-only because they wanted the Rev to be seen (by whoever they were showing it to) in it's best possible form, while they tell us about the next thing that we apparently don't want, which is HD.

I'm expecting the "big port" is simply their new, end-all A/V out port that includes Component (Y/Pb/Pr) [RGB/VGA alternatively, perhaps?], S-Video (Y/C), RCA audio (L/R), and possibly toslink -- which means the new plug is one mean mofo.  The current GC/N64/SNES (cheezus! that many?) A/V plug is running out of physical space for extra conductors/connections as it is.  I highly doubt the GC P.scan cables will be useful again since they only output video; there may be extra hardware inside the component cable itself besides what's already in the GameCube to make p.scan available (i don't really know) -- why else would it be so ricockulously expensive compared to PS2 and Xbox component adapters?  Who else is irritated by the fact that GC owners had to buy this ginormous & expensive component cable, while most DVD players simply have the RCA-style Component hookups built into the machine, relying on us to just pay as little as $10 for component video cables?

Wow, you sure are forcefully putting words into Nintendo's mouth. I'm sure the official stance if one was ever published was that "99% don't care" versus,  "99% don't/didn't want" digital/progressive/blah blah blah. It's ridiculous if you going to argue over exact percentages.

Uhm... if you're the kind of person who maintains a "higher-end entertainment center" then your going to be the person who will want a much "higher-end" DVD player then the PS2 or Gamecube (if it played dvds). You'd also know that their isn't that much difference between S-Video and Component and that Progressive scan introduces its own problems while eliminating others. Hence the need for specific progressive scan dvd players.

Or are you the kind that just gobbles up the marketing and buys the $300 a foot video cable, believing it's better?

You do realize a digital out port does not mutually exclude "standard" video outputs, right?
