That's taking it a step beyond obvious now.
I like how the system is not made for it nearly as well as the DS, at all.

You people are acting like you are suprised.  With Sony it's not if they'll copy something Nintendo does, but when.

Epitaph: Hasn't been tried for a while but I think suing over ripoffs is possible. And hell, the difference between this and Nintendogs can't be bigger than the one between Pac-Man and K.C. Munchkin.

Yeah, it's interesting that it doesn't look any better than a DS game. I only see one dog and the interface seems to have changed to Deutsche Telekom (errr... T-Com) colours.

"Its pretty sad really, you would think nintendo could sue over this kind of rip off."

Trust me.  You don't want game companies suing over stuff like this.  If they went sue crazy then each genre would be limited to one company.  Would you want Square Enix to be the only company to make RPGs or id Software to be the only ones making first person shooters?  I think it's best we all just let the clones slide so that when a really great derivative game gets made we don't have to worry about lawsuits.  Gunstar Heroes would have never existed if Konami sued Treasure over the similarity with Contra.

KDR brought up K.C. Munchkin.  That lawsuit was crap.  K.C. was clearly a maze game but it played quite differently and it was BETTER than the Atari version of Pac-Man so gamers lost out.

The only time a lawsuit makes sense is when a game rips off another so much that it actually has like the same exact level layouts so that it's almost literally the same game with different art.  Games that are only similar shouldn't be sued over.  Hell Capcom didn't even win their case against Data East when Fighter's History is clearly Street Fighter II with slightly different character appearance.

Who cares if Sony makes a puppy game anyway?  Anyone who is interested in Nintendogs is going to buy a DS for the real thing.  The only people who buy blatant knockoffs are people who already own the "wrong" system and can't afford to get the other one.  The PSP target demographic isn't the sort of people who play puppy simulators.  I doubt it will even sell that well and virtually no one will buy the PSP for this over the DS for Nintendogs.  Nintendo should be flattered that their idea is popular enough to have clones.  That's like the measuring stick of a classic game.

Sony fanbois will still rejoice that they have the ability to play a version of Nintendogs which, despite lacking touchscreen and microphone support, they will claim is superior.

Sony should have went with another pet, maybe throw some fantasy elements into it. Imagine a pet dragon or griffen with semi-realistic graphics in a home setting. Keep the fire extinguisher handy! Out for a walk . . . hey! your dragon ate my dragon!

Ok, over the top a little, but there are a million directions Sony could go with out copying the dog idea.

Even if they don't look anything like them at all, fantasy animals will probably be seen in the same light as Pokémon, so no Sony fanboy would pick that up.  Even if they were realistic-looking with good AI and in realistic environments, it's still more in that direction.  More people can relate to playing with a dog than with a dragon.

To some degree thats true but it could also have the reverse effect where companies would try to be original so they are not sued.

OMG. I would KILL for a pet dragon that I could have fight other dragons! OMG! DIGIMON ALL OVER AGAIN!

No...seriously...I loved the original Digimon. My Digimon kicked my brother's Digimon's butt.

You know, I never even thought of Digimon. I never even got into the cartoon. I did think of Monster Rancher though. I suppose Tamagochi (sp?) would fit the category too. The big difference I imagine would be the level of interactivity.

No matter. I don't care what kind of animal / robot is in a pet sim. I wouldn't buy it. There's nothing that would make me say 'Gotta have it' to a pet sim. Even if you had to train it then take into battle from a FPS point of view.

Thats probably it.  You can train it to be an attack dog, and you battle it with other attack dogs in the seedy, underground world of...dog fighting.

Also, it kills you if you forget to feed it.

"Quoting the Guide; "Sony and Microsoft will be the first ones against the wall when the Revolution comes.""

Awesome quote. I hope people get the reference.

As for the topic, without being able to "touch" your dog or "call" it, what's the point? Half of Nintendogs was the fact that you had tactile and verbal interaction with your virtual pet, upping the immersion factor.

Without those, you go all the way back to "Dogz" and "Catz" on the PC all those years ago.
