DS Boggle Monopoly etc
« on: February 05, 2006, 11:36:48 PM »
Anyone know what dictionary DS Boggle uses as a reference? Seems to be American English as apposed to real English, plus Australian words such as roo do not exist in it.

Pitty it lacks the option to add/delete words.

So it isn't a word then?  More like slang?

If you're aware that it uses the American English dictionary why don't you just slightly alter the way you play the game using that knowledge?  As a Canadian I've become well acustomed to switching into "American English mode" for things like that.  This is a freakin' Boggle game.  It's not exactly the sort of title anyone is going to justify delaying for the Aussie release just to get the right dictionary.

LOL I said the same the first time my friend used it in boggle (he has an IQ of over 190, is in Mensa and I think knows about 95% of words in the dictionary as well as there meaning and place of origin).

No originally it was slang but has now become a real word as its used very often in conversation. It is listed in Australian Oxford Consise dictionary (or Australian Maquarie Consise dictionary) as a real word.

I highly doubt it; and I don't think you're allowed to moderate the word list..

No you cant moderate the word list, thats the problem.

And Monopoly is FULL of bugs,  does not follow the official rules, it doesnt even follow the rules they provide . Ive only played it againt the AI, which is as dumb as a 5 yo even on expert.

Its a pitty, because the bugs are so basic they could easily have been eliminated. The actual control with the touch screen is suitrs the game and could have been excellent. Even the left right arrows for saving your name dont work on the touch screen, only the up down arrows.

Well I returned this to EB yesterday, Monopoly totally unplayable, even to the point of having lockups/endless loops in the code.

eg
myself start building houses (each one goes to @#$%ing seperate auction)
myself $5 in cash + many properties chooses to buid another  house not realising only $5 left
AI decides it must auction this house due to a building shortage that does not really exist as the AI is not interested in bidding.

So it goes to Auction
I cannot bid as it makes the smallest bid $50 and the program does not allow you to mortgage one in an Auction.
AI 1 does not bid
AI 2 deos not bid
CANNOT LEAVE ACTION so only choice is to power off the @#$%ing  game

As for boggle (and battleship), its OK but according to IGN if you play multiplayer download play you have to power off the DS each time to start another go.

FORGET this game, Atari have stuffed it.

It would have been soooooooo trivial to grab a free dictionary (like the ones Linux uses) for another variant of English off the web and stick it on the cart...
