Mega Man X Collection - X3 specifically

Read the review on MMX Collection. I beg to differ on Mega Man X3. Specifically, as my younger brother agrees, it sucks! X3 killed the gameplay style of X and X2, and resorted to all manner of cheapness for its difficulty. Many of the barely animated bosses tended to go from one side of the room to the other as their attacks, and the obnoxiously placed enemies respawned too quickly. And as for its music, it was awful! Not catchy like the previous two games at all.

In short, Mega Man X3 was terrible, not fun like the previous two games, and I think it was probably somewhat of a rush job.

X and X2, however, were excellent games IMO. X was a fantastic start to the series, and X2 took everything it did right and really upgraded it (except the music IMO, which was less catchy).

And I definitely agree that the series went downhill after the end of the 16-bit era. Capcom seemed to forget the simple formula that made the Mega Man games (original and X) so much fun, and really convoluted them. I don't like the Zero series at all - they'd be much more fun if they were easier and simpler, without all those upgrades the requirements to get them. I long for the days of X and X2.

X3 was a rush job, because Capcom wanted to get it out before the SNES died.

The version of X3 that's in MMXC is the PlayStation/Saturn port. It has added FMV cutscenes, and the music was remixed for it. Most people seem to say that the remixed music in X3 is worse than the original SNES version.


BTW, I disagree with both you and Jonny, in that I think X4 was really good. Particularly if you play as Zero.

I'm about to go punk up some 3rd parties so they don't release games on other hardware, ciao!

Makes sense that X3 would be rushed. It has a lot of ideas, but not developed well, as if they didn't have time to tweak it.

I know the music in the collection is from the PSX version of the game. The original SNES version had music I really didn't like either. Not very catchy at all.

The music in X3 from the Saturn/PSX version just pales in comparison to the SNES original; it feels empty and lacking the (lit.) rocking sound of the original.

Actually, you're right, it was catchy at times, but overall, I felt it was lacking compared to the previous games.

I do really like the Zero theme (as heard in the first level) a LOT. But still, the music was less melodic and a lot of generic rock, and I really didn't like it compared to the previous two games.

I actually liked the remixes moreso than I did the original music.  To me, they weren't even trying with the music on the SNES X3, at least on the PC version I have it's like they thought about it a bit more.  Hell, the music was what almost redeemed that game, at least until I realized it was still MMX3.  I would have to say X3 and 6 were the lowest points of the collection with X5 in a not so distant second.

For whatever reason, Toxic Seahorse's music is always stuck in my head.  Of all the possible stages in all those games, why Toxic Seahorse?

Well, okay, there are tunes in Mega Man II, III, and X...but I always found that weird.

Here's another weird thing...X 3 is supposedly the rarest MMX game, but it's the most ported...it's on the Super NES, PlayStation, PC and Sega Saturn!

It's probably the most expensive X game EVAR too.

I think it was $80 new when I got it.  Similar to X2.
X1 was like $10 new by the time I got to it =D

Is it true they removed the Japanese voices from X6 in the collection? Because that was one thing about 6 I DID like...

Yes, they removed it (along with the audio in the other games) in order to replace it with a higher quality redone English dub. But then Inafune said "no improvements for the 2D fans" and yanked the new dub, and Capcom didn't see the point in re-installing the Japanese dub to fill the void. They (like Namco) think that Americans would rather listen to silence than Japanese voice acting.

I actually prefer japanese voice acting, cause at the very least, I can't tell if they're bad voice actors or not.
