ign has an article up saying that a completely original sonic game is in the works for revolution. sega hasnt actually confirmed it yet, but good news none the less.

http://revolution.ign.com/articles/682/682320p1.html

off the top of my head though, i cant think of how a sonic game would work with the rev controller.

This is good news of course, always good to have another game on this side. Though if it is a completely different game I would be interested in seeing if the PS3 and 360 versions are worth playing. But after Shadow the Hedgehog I had enough! Sonic Team or what ever they are called (or soon to be called, because I know the names changing) are dead to me now. I am a huge Sonic fan to, the kind who likes to make his own comic books about him and actualy puts up with Sonic X. The kind who goes to Sonichq every day to see what people are talking about on the message boards, and looks out for every little bit of Sonic news. But man... after Heroes and Shadow I will not touch a Sonic game unless it is criticly acclaimed. Fans will eat that junk up like its gods gift to gaming and can't stand it when someone gives any of the 3D games something like a 5/10.

You know after Sonic Adventure 2, where Sonic Team just about nailed the speed stages I had high hopes for Heroes. The camera in SA2 only went where it wanted you to go, but if one knew the stage in and out, that person could  keep moving with out stopping once. People complained that it never felt like you were in control, but I sware if people played like I did(try and run through with out stopping making it look as cool as possible for points) they would have a blast.  Anyway I kept reading things like "no treasure hunting"(and there was) and clunky moving robots and thought "wow this is going to be great." I also read that Yuji Naka was playing alot of Sunshine, and I thought "maybe he will see how the physics of a jumping character should work."
Then I realized he took the 3 characters on your team and turned them into a new version of FLUDD.

OK I could rant on and on for a long time, because I am that pissed with Sonic Team, but im sure you guys get the idea. I have no hope for a great 3D Sonic game, and thats what I really want because I think 2D Sonic has been perfected.

The remote lends itself better to platformers than the competition's controller; a platformer of all games doesn't need more buttons but rather this 3D control.  How exactly do you make a Sonic game on 360?  There are fourteen buttons; how many actions does Sonic have beyond run, jump, and spin?  The revolution remote is the answer to every jumping and camera problem in a 3D platformer.  It's so obviously built with the straight forward simplicity of Mario Bros in mind.

An original Sonic at launch would be the awesome (if Mario Bros was not present) on a Nintendo console.  It, of all third party games, should feature the Mario Bros as selectable characters.

Same way they made them for Dreamcast, GameCube, PS2 and Xbox. Badly.

This is great news!! That would be awsome if this was ready by launch (If mario 128 isn't, like nemo said). It might be cool if the game had 2-D gameplay but with 3-D graphics (ala Mrio Bros. DS) since 3-D Sonic has been going downhill after SA2... But maybe the Rev controller is the answer to the problem.

I can see Big's Fishing Adventure coming out for the Rev.  Seriously.

Maybe it's because I wasn't a Sonic fan back in the 2D days (I didn't own a Genesis at the time, and even when I could play them, I for whatever reason didn't invest the time to finish those games), but I usually like the 3D Sonic games.  Even Sonic Heroes, which a lot of people seem to dislike.  Obviously I'm not seeing something other people see as blasphemous to the series or whatever.

Then again, I'm a big Mario fan and had my gripes about Super Mario 64 shortly after it came out.  A real lack of blocks to hit, no ricocheting Koopa shells, no Koopalings, and stuff like that.  You know, stuff I liked from previous Mario games were just not there.  Maybe there's something in 2D games that people miss in the 3D incarnations of the Sonic games.

You knewo if its Sega related nes Im sure to notice, and any Sonic game for Rev is going to be good. Heroes isnt ata ll as bad as people say, yourun aorund, fast, you do teh same things you did in SOnic Adventure, its still fun I thought. I still dont get why people dont like it.

Anyways I hope the DONT use the revmote fot Sonic, damint there needs to be some rgular games that use the shell for normal gamers to play without having to get too into the remote. N64 had games where you could use the d-pad so did GC but if Rev forces to you use the new controler and it yo knwo maybe just sucks then tahst it people will walk away.

Sonic doesnt need a lot of buttons though I agree, back on Genesis all three buttons did the same thing, jump and spin dash. Thast one thing I didnt liek about the SOnic ADventure games is hwo they changed the Spin Dash. SA 1 had it but all the rest have taken it away.

I still havent played Shadow yet but I bet I will like it more than ya all cuz I am not so picky with games, if its fun its fun.

I couldn't agree more Caterkiller.  I never owned a non-Nintendo system, so I got to experience SA2 on the GCN when it was ported over.  I was blown away by the green forest stage of the game and I found myself revisiting the speed levels to show my buddies how cool I was playing the game.  They would eventually pick it up and try to out-shine my performance.  I've played a couple of the old school games on Genesis, but this promising.  My only gripe about SA2 was the treasure hunting / shooter levels of the game.  If Yuji Naka and his team would just make the games into the different speed courses, there wouldn't be a problem.  I think he can also do away with the whole adventure stuff too.

Heroes and Shadow were more of the same.  Looks like I have to go to the compilations and then Nintendo DS for the critically acclaimed stuff.  I hear Sonic Rush on the DS is the best 2D Sonic game ever.

I may not agree with most of you about the 3D Sonic games, and I haven't yet played Sonic Rush, but I would definitely agree that if there's still room in this world for 2D games, the DS would be it.  I think that and the GBA might be where 2D game designers can still make great 2D games if they can't or won't put their work in a 3D world.  The GBA still has a large chunk of the gaming market and the DS could always help add something to those 2D games with its unique features.

Not that 2D games don't still come out for consoles, but they seem to be fewer and farther between.

AnimeCyberrat I hope they do try to use the revmot with the new Sonic, it has the chance to be just what a Sonic game needed for great control.  I mean it couldn't possibly be worse then whats been done.

SH had you run with a group of 3 characters at once, and they slipped around alot for easier turns than the past 3D games. But with that you couldn't gain speed, they would always move fast around a loop(running loops was poorly done in Heroes) or a little convayer belt(spell that please) but you could never try and gain more speed.

In SA2 you could go fast, really really fast. But when you ran really fast, making turns for most people was pretty tough. You had to do it very lightly or Sonic would go all over the place and when people first play it they don't seem to understand that. But even so the character wasn't slipping all over the place and it felt like you could really control his turns and speed with a little practice. Though you should never have to really practice for something like that, unless its major obsticles in a level.

Now SADX made running with Sonic a LOT more controllable, pluss he runs even faster than the SA2 version. You couldn't connect the stages like that of SA2 so you really couldn't put the extra control to amazing visual use, but it was still there.

Im not going to even mention Shadow.

What im saying is that a stick might not be the solution for steering Sonic. I only thought of this just now so I don't have it all worked out, but I could see the remot being a much easier way to steer Sonic around at high speeds. You have plenty of stability actualy holding something and you may never over shoot your turns after you figure out how sensative it is. Im not sure how he would run though,  point the control stick and steer with the remot I guess. I hope someone is understanding me. The Revolution could make it so that even at super high speed, controlling Sonic could be like controlling Mario.

Yes, KDR, we all know your thoughts on the franchise.  Thanks for the contribution to the thread.

ANYWAYS, I hope with all the good press Sonic Rush is getting, Sonic Team realizes that 2D -is- the way to go.  The Sonic Adventure series were alright games in their own right, but pale in comparison to the Genesis days, especially Sonic 2.

And, I have yet to play Heroes, and I never plan too.

Nor Shadow, for that matter.

That's so true; there has never been another system where 2D and 3D live in such harmony..

And also TMW, good press only won't change SEGA's mind; sales do, on the other hand. And last I checked, Rush got a bit lost in the DS Christmas rush. It sold a bit more than 100K copies, which is good but not great..
