Nintendo Conducts Focus Surveys for its Virtual Co
« on: January 10, 2006, 04:54:16 PM »
A survey reveals proposed plans for Revolution's retro gaming features.  Preliminary games list inside!

Nintendo (through a third party) is conducting a closed survey on its Virtual Console feature for the Revolution—more specifically, proposed pricing and menu schemes.  Joystiq reports details and screen captures of the survey.

Although reported content merely shows what Nintendo is considering, it is still worth noting.  Three pricing schemes are proposed: purchase, rental and subscription.  Gamers may pay a one-time price and download and own the game forever.  Alternatively, they may rent a single game for a specified period.  Finally, a monthly subscription would allow players to download a specified number of games each month—games downloaded prior months will continue to be playable (as long as Nintendo continues to get its monthly money).  The images themselves are mock-ups for the survey and do not reflect the service's actual look.

Specific pricing apparently was not mentioned, but Joystiq has listed titles the survey listed as likely to be available at launch.

Super Mario RPG makes me happy.

Also, Ogre Battle 64! I looked all over for that game, but could never find it. That will be the first thing I get, without question.

    Sin & Punishment OMFG

A buddy of mine brought that back from Japan for me a few years ago.  I traded in my N64 and eventually sold the game on eBay, but I never beat it.  I really hope it makes the final list because the game was amazing.

And all those SNES titles, I mean really.  Revolution is going to be a silly console for Nintendo fans, it's just out of hand.  Out of hand I tell you.

I could do with a few more sequels and franchises from Nintendo and Rare alone (BattleToads, MK64 WTF?!?!?!), but meh....Complaining would just waste my precious energy...

I take that back...where the hell is Chrono Trigger?! Illusions of Gaia made it. Hopefully Nintendo and Square correct there mistake.

Maybe they want to re-release the title on the GBA/DS, and therefore don't want it on the download service? That was my assumption.

Chrono Trigger was released on the PSX...I don't think Sony would give that one up easily...

    Thats just my theory, though.

Correct, yet it was a port of a SNES which it could barely handle, and had added FMV to try to tie it to CC, which didn't set well with me.
But Nintendo had the publishing right's for the SNES version. So I doubt sony could do anything at all, with Square and Enix merger and their stake
in the company significantly shruken, it's barely an issue at all, and none to be worried of. Since sony does not hold the rights to CT.

RC Pro AM is great, but I'd prefer the sequel, because it has four-player multiplayer.  Still!  A LOT of great games on that list.  Kirby 3 never came out in Australia, which made me sad, so I hope it stays on the final list.

Sony has jack to say about that. Chrono Trigger is Square Enix's IP and they're free to do what they want with it.

I was very suspicious, but since PGC posted it, I thought it to be true.

However, go to the discussion in the REV furom and you'll see why I called it fake from the beginning.

Awesome.  The list looks rather small written down like that, but that's really a lot of games.  And that's probably not it, either.
I'll be getting the original Zelda, Ice Climbers, Adventure of Link (which I owned but had no idea how to get through the first two minutes), DKC (possibly sequels), Earthbound, Super Mario RPG, Pilotwings (SNES and 64), Starfox SNES, some SNES Kirby games, LttP, Yoshi's Island, Goldeneye, and Sin & Punishment.  And I may decide to get some others, too, especially if they add to the list.

Goldeneye doesnt surprise meone bit, Nintendo wa the original Publisher anyways so i assumed they still had publishing rights to the original roms. If theyw nted to update it for online or something that would makea difference. Also i do not want this tobe subscription based, because after a while when rev gets older or replaced with next gen tehy will cancel the subscription service and you will lose your games again.

In the screens it looks like Nintendo's using credits for currency but that might just be a placeholder.  Or they're charging $500 for them.

What's Yoshi's Hunting?  Is that another name for Yoshi's Safari?  Some of of these titles aren't the "official" names of the games.  Like "Kirby" isn't a game.  "Kirby's Adventure" is.  And on the N64 list it just says "Zelda".  Well there are two N64 Zelda games.  Which one is that refering to?  Because of that I'm iffy about the credibility of the list.  I just figure Nintendo would be very specific about the names for their products.

as far as online goes...i beleive if Nintnedo are not total idiots they will give their n64,snes, nes emulators the online support my emulators have had for ages. Just think I'v played River City Ransom, Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles 1-3(and in time) all on an emulator online. Also, they were freaking fun as hell.
All that has to be done is a memory synch between two systems so the data doesnt differ when there are randomizers...the other thing that needs to be done is your controlls being sent through to eachother. If they can make these classic games on-line then it makes them new again in a way.
