Compared to the competitive scene, that is. Sorry for the put-down, but I'd imagine any SSBM player would want to see these insane feats.

That's just the start of it. There's a very serious tournament scene out there, where players make hundreds, thousands, or even tens of thousands of dollars by being better than you at this game - MLG NYC is just one of the hundreds of regular tournaments all over the country that award considerable sums to the better players.

The final video is the ultimate example of SSBM competitive play - A battle between the top 10 tournament players of the East Coast against the top 10 of the West Coast in a heated 40 stock crew battle, in front of an audience of nearly 200 other serious players. A huge file here (over 600 mb, several hours worth for broadband users), but absolutely worth it.

Some stuff off the top of my head to watch out for in this final video:
- The nearly undisputed top 4 SSBM players of North America/Europe/Australia; Ken, Isai, Azen, Chu Dat (Ken being undisputed best in the world)
- Use of a "extender" glitch by the black Samus to make her grab 3x as long
- East Coast trash talking Ken's brother by calling him Ken's Shadow
- An amazing sequence of attacks by Chu that used Popo to grab and Nana to attack
- Incredible cheering from the East Coast for KillOR's victory, followed by a sudden silence when West Coast chooses Ken to step up
- A revenge match for Wes against Hugo to make up for his loss at the tournament GS2
- Extraordinary luck for KrazyJones when he pulls out a grandpa turnip, a bob-omb, and another grandpa turnip all in a row (1/300 chance for each one, so 1/27000000 chance for this to all happen in a row).

That oughtta explain a lot of the shouting going on during the matches.

I'm not too familiar with the "professsional" video game tournament scene... Does the PS2 and the XBox have games that garner as much attention as SSBM?

I suspect Halo has something similar for the xbox crowd. Im not sure, the only reason i know SSBM has a tornament is through nintendo power. I never got into SSBM. Maybe cause im not very good or know how to play it. Or i think its cause i have no who wouold want to play it with me.
Further i wasnt thrilled that they threw in Samus into that game. Im sure some will be taken aback by such a statement. But Samus' mystiqe(sp) or aura took a hit, i think, when I was using her and fighting against iceclimbers and bowser... Out Of all the Nintendo characters they really need to leave her in the Metroid universe. Lets not get me started on that pinball game... %ucking Nintendo..And we wonder why they cant shake that tiku tiku tiku! image. Their only "nontiku tiku tiku! " character gets reduced to pinball game and fighting against Kirby and Peach.. I care less how fun the games are. Some characters need to be respected. Imagine the outcry when MS puts Master cheif in a tennis game or fighting against the Psyhconaut characters.

My apologies for my rant..i cant get agitated at times. Maybe when the rev comes out i can play you guys in SSB and maybe ill get into it. As long as no one is playing Samus..

Nosferat2, SSB is all about the question "Who would win in a fight," specified for Nintendo's most well-known characters. If they hadn't added Samus, one of Nintendo's most beloved heroines, there definitely would've been a backlash. Samus lost her mystique? How so? She doesn't talk, there's no backstory revealed. It's not like Smash Bros. and its sequel are canon in the Metroid universe. So what did you lose by seeing Samus kick some ass? And that piball game that Samus was "reduced to" scored a very respectable 82% on GameRankings. It was a good game, and so if anything, the game is a credit to Metroid's flexibility as a franchise. Metroid Prime 3 is still coming, and it's stil going to be as epic and mature as the last two games, so what's your reason to complain?

It's an all-star fighter game, those often combine "serious" characters with more funny ones. Take Dream Mix TV World Fighters, you can have Solid Snake fighting a headbanging Moai and the japanese equivalent of Barbie (however, Simon Beltmont and that headbanging Moai have been together in a NES game already) and I don't think anyone said Konami destroyed MGS with that.

In our area, we actually hold SSBM tournaments along with Tekken 5 and Soul calibur 3. I remember during the very first SSBM tournament in our area, ChuDat actually came down for the tournament as well as pretty much the rest of the Virginia crew. Needless to say, I was opened up to a whole new world of SSBM after seeing that.
Chu used Bowser against my brother's Samus and OWNED him without losing a stock. The whole time he was over trying to figure out why he was losing to Bowser considering that Samus has a million advantages over him.

Got 2nd at last months contest, which features my states smashboards ppl, 6 weeks before I knocked out my states best player in the tourny then lost to fox next round

Usually Marth, Jigglypuff or Captain Falcon. Ice Climbers when I feel like wholesale destruction and Yoshi or Falco when going up against a friend who loves to overuse Pikachu.
