Im am very very excited about this game, excited enough to consider importing the Japanese version(with Freeloader) because it comes like 4 months early. Do all you guys think it will live up to the old glory of SC1? I see alot of potential in this game, but Im not sure if it will achieve similar awesome scores like its predecessor. Im positive though, Zelda WW achieved it, why not SC2.

well im definatly going to buy it, i loved SC1 one on dreamcast and well with link in it aswell, how can you go wrong
i also would applaud the creators of the game (slipped my mind at the moment) for putting effort into a mutli platform game! i think thats a brilliant idea having a different console specific character in each version

Hey all.

Is Soul Calibur all that, Im still thinking about a decent fighting but the word im looking for is MULTIPLAYER value.  I have my picks at: Mortal Kombat: Deadly Alliance, Capcom SNK EO, and now this.

I mean im not buying the game just cause of a character model of Link but I will buy it if I can play it over and over again without it getting old.

After playing SC1 a bunch (I played it in Arcades, I never owned it) I’m definitely getting this! To me, Link being a playable character is just a little bonus compared to the game itself. I’m not going to import it though… I’m not that much of a fan.

When is SC2 coming out (in the US)? September?

I was down at UC Riverside this past friday and during my explore time I headed down to the arcade and who would have guessed that they had the arcade version of SCII. Its very very fun, I had a blast, but how much better it is compared to the first and the soon to be released consol versions I have no idea.

Yeah Importing would be too expensive for me although id love to do it.
But to import this game I would have to pay 60$ for the Japanese version, 20$ for the Freeloader, another 20$ for a new Memory Card formatted for Japanese games and shipping. Thats over 100$ which id rather invest into 2 games.

Crap, looks like ill have to wait till August.

I have soul calibur for DC obviously and it was my fav game for the console. I still play it a lot. But i'm not sure if I would import it. Seeing what they say in the subtitles and reading the story that goes along with the game was some good stuff in the first one. The freeloader translates the language? And trust me the game has unlimited replay value. It doesn't get a 40/40 by famitsu (<-- spell check) if its not good. I think it was the 2nd game to get a perfect score by famitsu ever. Now there are 4 games that have 40 out of 40.

I got to play the Arcade version of Soul Calibur II, and I think it lives up to the glory of Soul Calibur I perfectly.  I never owned a Dreamcast, but I played the DC Soul Calibur with friends, and I played Soul Calibur I in the arcade occasionally, so I have some basis for comparison.  From my arcade experience with Soul Calibur II, I believe it will appease old fans perfectly; I dare say it is better than Soul Calibur I.

I don't know about you guys, but I'm getting kind of sick of all the websites (namely IGN) only showing screenshots of Link, I wanna see more of the other characters too!

Now that beats it all
I couldnt do that even if i was rich, why buy the same game twice?
I sure will import the game if I start to gather some cash soon, but dont have a job yet.

I calculated and importing would cost me around 115$
thats alot even for SC2. Have to wait for some reviews, a perfect game deserves perfect attention, would have done the same with Zelda if there wasnt so much text in it.

Namco certainly saved the gamecube version of Soul Calibur 2 by adding Link. Besides the fact that its going to be a great game by itself, Link will make the GC version sell on par, or even more than the ps2 version. As long as they make it known that Link is in it (on the cover or in the adds) everyone loves Link!

Now thats some strong assumptions.
Sell on par with the PS2? Im not so sure. Link is a fabulous bonus but the fact that the PS2 has like 5times the userbase makes this slightly unlikely.
Anyhow, great game and a sure must buy for me, perhaps even my first import title (4months wait can be painful, zelda is already killing me and im only not importing caus of language

that's true, but sc2 really doesn't have much competition on the cube. the only other 'classic' fighting games are bloody roar, capcom vs. snk,  and mortal kombat. those are the only ones that i can think of anyway.. my point is that sc2 on ps2 has to compete with tekken and virtua fighter, whereas on cube it is obviously far better than any other fighting game on the cube (i'm excluding ssb:m because it isn't really a 'classic' fighter).
i think that sc2 will sell very well on the cube, but the ps2 version will most likely be the most popular.. just thought i'd add those points

I'm fairly confident that it will sell on cube.  Well at that.  When Namco put Link into it, they sold a copy to me for sure that'll be the GC version.  Plus, the GC is just my on the couch multiplayer system, so...

Smart move by Namco, hopefully it pays off for them.

I've played the arcade version and I'm about 100% confident that it will be well worth owning.

Well I think Soul Calibur 2 will sell by the truck loads, MK DA sold well on the Cube, that shows you that Gamecube gamers are also fighting game fans

From what I've heard I don't think the PS2 will sell that well.  Most People with all three systems most are planning to buy it for the GC to get Link, the rest are getting the X-Box version.  The only people getting it for the PS2 only have that system. (I think its because most people think the PS2 special character sucks.)  Although the other systems might sell more, I think this game will have the best Gamecube percentage of any multiplatform game so far.

Soul Calibur II is a must have game. I imported it right when it came out in Japan and it blew me away.

This might be a SPOILER to some people, so beware.

They added a story mode (sort of) which gives the game some depth in that you can acquire new weapons etc. But the bulk of the game comes in the arcade and versus modes. Plus, Anyone can pick up this game and have fun with it immediately.
This is a must have and I think it was also a game which people shouldve imported a looong time ago (its very very import friendly with most of the menus in English).
In August, you guys will be blown away.
P.S. Link is awesome, though sometimes he does strike me as out of place.

Does anyone know if this game's gonna have a tag team option so four players can play? I have a friend who's really excited about the game and says that he'll get the GCN version (he also owns a PS2) if it has tag team. (He's gotten used to that from DOA 2 on his DC.)

Yeah, I kinda figured. It'd get kinda hectic with four battlers on the arena. (SSBM ) Thanks rpgphile. Sorry, that makes it sound dirty. RPG lover.
